We arrived home today from a 10 night stay at Villa Ilayda. Although we don't want to be at home, we are feeling utterly relaxed after an amazing stay in this fabulous place.
The villa is spacious and tastefully decorated in a nice quiet area of town, but not too far from the centre. it's a 20 minute walk down to the main town area, and although we did venture on foot once or twice, it's so cheap to get a taxi (£2.50) - it was so hot that the times we did walk we ended up such a sweaty mess by the time we got to town!
The villa was immaculate when we arrived and although we didn't expect a mid stay clean, the cleaner came in after around 5 days to do just this and to change towels/bedding. The kitchen was well equipped with crockery, pans etc and there is a barbecue on the patio that we used a couple of times - buy meat at the butchers in town as the local shops don't seem to sell it.
We slept really well every night and felt totally relaxed from the moment we arrived. Paula arranged our transfer to and from resort which took away a lot of stress.
Metin came to introduce himself the day after we arrived, and then he and Paula had to come and rescue us when we stupidly locked ourselves out at almost midnight!
The pool was lovely - not big but ample for 4 of us to splash about and cool off. By late afternoon, the pool area shades over but if you wanted even more sun, the roof terrace was fantastic. A good place to catch a few more rays and have a nosey at what's going on around and about!
There are a few local cafes around the villa that you can eat at if you don't want to go into town. This tends to be quite a bit cheaper than eating in town. Turn right out of the villa and walk for a couple of minutes to Yelken (amazing, we went twice), or turn left to Cafe Vita, which does a great barbecue night. At the other side of the shop is Aqua Cafe which we really enjoyed, good choice of traditional Turkish, plus burgers, pizza, pasta etc and awe inspiring cocktails.
Kalkan itself was beautiful. Quite hustle bustle but relaxed and we were never excessively hassled to buy goods or eat at a restaurant. We simply said no thanks and that was enough. If I'm being picky, the only thing I would mention is that the sunbeds around the pool, being made of metal, get VERY hot and so it would be worth changing these to wooden beds.
But thanks to Paula and Metin for this amazing villa and for your hospitality We loved this place and will be going back!
