About Paul or Diane White
Diane and I moved to Spain from England in Jan 2008, we have 3 children and 7 grandchildren (at the moment). We find the lifestyle in Spain suits us, and have made many good friends and met some interesting! people since arriving. I am a mad keen motorcyclist and just by chance! the race track at Tabernas is just up the road, so that is where you will find me as often as I can sneak out. Diane is a chilly morsel so the 320 days of sunshine a year is just to her liking, she can usually be found basking by the pool. Paul and Diane White.
Paul or Diane White purchased this Cottage in 2008

Pretty finca near Sorbas
We stayed with Paul and Diane for three lovely days, the sun shone and it was not too cold at nights which was a change for this year.
Their place is a little oasis of charm in the rugged but gorgeous desert that is that part of Andalucia,
The apartment was very Spanish, had everything we needed and the manicured garden and patio areas we all ours to use, either for a sun session in the day or a bbq in the evening.
Both Paul and Dianne were very amenable and could not do enough for us. We had an excellent stay .....
Nice and relaxing
As has already been said - Paul & Diane were very friendly & helpful. It's certainly an interesting area with it being so dry (compared to the Granada area where we stayed the first week on holiday). There are plenty of scenic drives around so make sure you get out and explore.
Special interest holidays:
Reef Cottage and Almond Reef are ideally situated for beautiful long walks, wonderful roads for cycling and motorcycling. We can suggest tracks for walks.
This is a great base for exploring the rich wildlife, birds and flora of eastern Andalucia.
Because of its rural location and because it is at the foot of the Sierra de Los Filabres many birds and flowers can be seen in the immediate vicinity. There are also a number of diverse habitats to explore on easy day trips. The only true desert in Europe at Tabernas, high mountains of the Sierra Nevada and coastal salt lagoons, steppe and volcanic hills of Cabo de Gata are just a few.
Birds typical of the Mediterranean and southern Europe are plentiful and are joined by rare and specialised species such as Trumpeter Finchs and Dupont’s Lark and Sandgrouse as well as a wealth of migrants in spring and autumn.
Anyone who enjoys nature, bird-watching, botany and the outdoors will enjoy exploring the area.
There are numerous coves and beaches; the nearest beach is Mojacar which is approximately 25 minuets drive, where there are great bars and restaurants along the playa. Just drive in either direction of Mojacar and discover many interesting places. Drive inland to Lubrin an interesting village with many places to eat and drink. A little further round is the village of Bedar where there is a wonderful restaurant especially if you like slow roasted lamb or paella
Almeria Airport is situated to the south and is about 45 minutes from Almond Reef. Granada Airport is further south and is about 2 hours drive. Murcia (San Javier) Airport is to the north and about 90 minutes by car. Alicante is further north and about 2 hours drive. The journey from all airports is very easy using quiet motorways.
The centre of the village is about a 15 minute walk. Sorbas is the nearest town at about 10 minutes by car, whilst the larger town of Turre is about 20 minutes away by car. The coastal resorts of Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera are all about 25 minutes away by car.
The nearest shop is in the centre of the village, this small convenience supermarket stocks all the essentials you might need, next to the shop there is a bar which serves good Tapas, opposite there is the Hostal bar which also serves good basic food. There are also a fleet of vans which travel through the villages selling bread, fish, fruit and veg. Nearby is a public swimming pool with another snack bar.
El Almendro in La Mela, is 10 minutes away by car and has a very nice bar/restaurant offering a good menu of the day. The nearby towns of Sorbas, Turre, Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera all have a good selection of major supermarkets, restaurants, bars, banks etc.
The historical town of Sorbas is only 10 minutes away by car and has a 24 hour emergency clinic. The Caves of Sorbas are well worth a visit. This part of Almeria is one of the best known areas for walking in Spain, with tracks starting right outside the house you can walk into the mountains. The National Park of Cabo de Gata, famous for its bird life (especially in Spring and Autumn) is less than thirty minutes drive and the world famous Cazorla National Park is about and hour and a half away. Granada and The Alhambra Palace is a must to visit at only 2 hours distance by motorway.
For film enthusiasts there is Mini Hollywood Film Studio, Oasis Reserva Zoologica, Fort Bravo Cinema Studios and Western Lodge. the desert landscape and climate provides one of the world's great film production centre, all 30/40 minuets drive. Other activities include horse riding, cycling, scuba diving, photography, painting, great roads for motorcycling also Circuto de Almeria for track days, 4x4 and quad bike safari's and much more. For these and further attractions we have a folder and information in the Cortijo for you to browse.
