Apartment in Kastel Stari, Nr. Split &Trogir, Dalmatian Coast, Croatia - It Is A Relaxing Atmosphere & Only Meters From The Beach, Warm Adriatic & Centre of the Village
About Madeleine Jenkins
My name is Madeleine Jenkins. The photo is me on the right and Austrian friends that I met in Kastela, sitting on my balcony on a warm summers evening. We still meet up. I was born in London and now live not far in Essex. I have a gorgeous daughter and 2 lovely grandsons, one of whom is at university the other will start secondary soon. Some years ago my partner and I set off in a VW van round Europe. We went through 11 countries in the 3 weeks. We travelled down the Dalmatian coast and woke one morning in Kastela Bay. What a wonderful sight to behold. The morning sun shining on the calm turquoise glass like sea. The old white stone buildings of Kastel Stari hail-owed by the back drop of the majestic Kozjak mountain. The local people too were friendly and helpful. So here I remain.
Madeleine Jenkins purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Madeleine Jenkins chose Kaštela
We bought the property here in Kastel Stari firstly because of the scenery, the history and local people. Then found that flights from Londons and other airports to Split were very reasonable and take just 2 hours 10 minutes. Being just 15 minutes from Split airport makes the journey very pleasant. Though a fishing village there is everything close to hand. The supermarkets, the shops, the bars, the restaurants, the beach and even the bus stop. A car is not essential. We moved in before it was completed and were the first residents in the modern 3 story apartment block. The builder lives in the village. Brand new underground drains were laid, pavements built and roads resurfaced a few years ago which has made life even more pleasant.
What makes this Apartment unique
The apartment is very bright, airy and spacious with patio doors to the balcony and to the garden as well as windows on 2 sides of the corner plot. If shade is needed in the hotter days of summer then the shutters can be pulled down to give a cooler feel as well. Though the doors & windows need to be closed if the air conditioner is on. The garden has grape vines growing up the trellis to provide some dappled shade and jasmine against the fence on the other to give seclusion. But the backdrop view of the mountains sloping down to the sea is still a sight to behold.

Fantastic Location! Fantastic Property! Fantastic Host!
We considered staying in a traditional hotel, but liked the thought of having our own place to come home to. The place was very clean, well equipped with the essentials and located in a great area. The communication with the host leading up to our trip was exceptional! She made us feel confident that we made a great decision and would really enjoy our accommodations. We sure did! Thanks for making our trip to Croatia a memorable one.
The apartment was brilliant, everything you need and more, so convenient to shops, restaurants, and the beach, The bus service to and fro from Trogir and Split was great, cheap, and regular We found the food was great at all the restaurants we went to, and loved the ice cream. We hired a car out for 4 days and traveled up and down the stunning coastline Thanks Madeline and Maria we had a great holiday in Kastel Stari Pete and Pat (Belfast)
Thanks Pete and Pat for lovely review about the apartment and surrounding areas and glad you had a great time. I will pass on your comments to Marija and we hope to see you again sometime in the future.
Peaceful, well equipped apartment
A light airy apartment, very convenient for the beach and buses to Split.
We also took a boat trip along the coast to Trogir which was very enjoyable.
Excellent bars and restaurants close by.
Would highly recommend.
Thank you for the lovely review, it helps my future guests know what a great place Kastel Stari is. We hope to see you again in the future.
Good location. Clean and tidy. Inventory fulfilled our needs for home cooking
Perfect for our requirements. Full inventory. Immaculatey clean. We'll prepared to facilitate home cooking which we enjoy...
Would have appreciated air conditioning in the bedroom on several nights.
Very accessible to the beach and bars. Pretty location with clean beach and sea..
Although a car is not essential we did hire a car and had some amazing trips out to national parks. Would suggest a car and mountain roads are very good and quiet. Lovely restful holiday. Split airport chaotic, and drinks and food extortionate and poor. Thank you Madeleine and Marjia for a warm welcome. Noel and Linda
Thanks Noel and Linda for your lovely review. I was surprised you wanted a noisy air- con system in the bedroom in April . Even in the heat of summer the system is designed to cool the whole apartment and was cleaned and serviced this year. There are fans to circulate the cool air if needed. The airport is in the process of a huge expansion and I would guess most airport food is usually expensive. Have a great summer and we hope to see you again. Madeleine
The apartment is easily located just 15 minutes (5k) from Split airport. By taxi (cost approx £12), Car hire, or 37 Bus. Turn left out of airport, cross and the straight road (Dr Franja Tudmana) that passes through 2 villages Kastel Stafillic, Kastel Novi and take a right turn down towards the sea in the Center of Kastel Stari.
The shale beach, warm Adriatic sea, little park, supermarket, bars, shops and restaurants are just steps away. Take a stroll through the narrow streets of the old stone buildings in the village and peer into the shops to discover what is being sold there. In less than 2 mins. you'll be in the market square where you can buy fresh fish and daily picked vegetables to take back for lunch. Or, just sit with a coffee and watch the fishermen come in. Later take a dip in the warm Adriatic or sunbathe on the beach with a book.
Travel & Distances:
If you fancy a trip to the historic UNESCO world heritage cities the 37 bus will take you to Trogir 12k. Or, in the other direction Croatia's second city Split 15k. The bus stop is 50mtrs. walk & the bus passes approx. every 20 minutes.
At Split you can visit the famous Diocletian Palace, a museum or perhaps take a ferry to one of the many islands to taste their wonderful wines. In Trogir meander the narrow marbled streets or sit by the quay & gaze at the millionaires enormous yachts & dream.
There is a lot to interest visitors to Kastela Bay. Sailing, windsurfing, fishing, rent a bike, visit Krk National Park, various festivals, historical churches and museums etc. Or just rent a pedalo on a hot afternoon and taste a different flavour ice cream every day.
Sojourn or Tourist tax is the Tourist Agencies Income. It's dependent on place and time staying. As a guide it is 1 euro per day (or Kuna's) and can be paid into the local tourist office at the quay near fish market & Gajo cafe bar. Children under 12 free.
