Spacious townhouse with roof terrace, situated in Vence centre

Our delightful 18th Century town house can be found in the very heart of the medieval town of Vence, conveniently situated just a few minutes walk away from the central Place du Grand Jardin. Within a couple of minutes, you will be able to witness the daily morning local farmers market, purchase fresh bread from the delicious smelling bakeries and sample the delights on offer at the many cafes, bars and restaurants Vence has to offer.

Owned by the same family for two generations, this cosy town house has retained its original stone walls and wooden beamed ceilings throughout. The accommodation is spread over 5 floors, with a spacious and bright open plan living area and kitchen on the 3rd floor comprising a dining and seating area for relaxing and entertaining and a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob. The house benefits from Wifi, television and an electric stove.

Bedroom one (2nd floor) has a kingsize bed and en-suite bathroom and toilet whilst bedroom two (1st floor) has twin beds that can convert into a double bed if desired, with an en-suite shower room and toilet. In the downstairs lounge on the ground floor, there is a double sofa bed. A child's cot can be provided on request.

The fourth floor has a small but tranquil roof terrace with marble table & chairs overlooking the provencal rooftops with both mountain and sea views. The terrace is an ideal space for breakfast, sunbathing, finishing a good book, an aperitif or enjoying dinner in the evening Vence air.

The closest public car park is a 1 minute walk away (under the Place du Grand Jardin) and has a great deal for a weekly car parking subscription.

Vence is serviced by a comprehensive bus service, linking the town to the local train station at Cagnes Sur Mer and all the “must see” destinations along the Cote d'Azur. St Paul de Vence is renowned for its Art, Grasse for its perfumeries, Cannes for the Croisette and its beaches and Nice for its markets and an authentic South of France City day out.

Centrally positioned and only half an hour from Nice International Airport, Vence really is an ideal base for visiting the French Riviera!

We were very satisfied of staying in Vence, it's very good location to visit places near by, not too growded. House is old, quirky and partly authentic; perfect for us. Understandably not suitable for all as there's 5 floors with narrow staircase. Roof terrace is superb!

Cool apartment in a great location!

This apartment was just as we expected from the online listing. It was so interesting to stay in such an old building with all of its history. The location is walkable to everything, with easy access to the bus station. Working with the owner and greeter was seamless, and we would recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to stay in Vence.

Wonderful week in Vence

My family enjoyed a wonderful week-long stay in this property. The town house is unique, conveniently located, very clean, and had everything we needed. We shopped for food at the nearby market, bakery, and grocery store, and enjoyed meals on the rooftop terrace. Melissa, the rental agent, did an excellent job of orienting us to the property and was lovely to work with. We are grateful to have found this property.

We stayed nine days at this great place. Very spacious- a full house with a terrasse on the roof top with a view over the roofs of Vence - and to the sea. Erika was very nice and helpful. She answered all our questions - and she shipped a dress which we had forgotten in one of the dressers to our home place. Thanks again for this very pleasant stay!

Four winter months in Vence

During my long stay at the house it felt like home. In the kitchen there was everything that I needed. The roof terrace was great place to spend time and the view was great. All the shops were close. Going up and down the five floors of the house was good daily exercise (lots of steps but also good handrails). I and my visitors enjoyed the experience very much.

We had a wonderful stay. The home is well-kept. The location of the home is right at the center of Vence and convenient to many good restaurants, shops, etc. A plus for us is that the home is in a true neighborhood (not just tourists). While there were many listings in and around Vence, this was the only property that I could find with all these qualities. The photos on the posting accurately portray the home. In my opinion, it looks even better in person. Note, because there are four levels, it might not be ideal for persons with difficulty climbing stairs.

The house is in a very nice location not far away from all the touristic cities like Nice Cannes Monaco and all the beaches Cagnes sur mer is max 15 mn away Vence is a small medieval and beautiful village The restaurants and the cafes are 2 mn walking distance from the house and the week we were there, every night there was an event which makes it more enjoyable. Erika was very kind and helpful, the house itself is nice not recommended for old people though it has almost 4 floors to get to kitchen and then the terrasse which is in the last floor We had everything we needed in the house, may be missing some kitchenware and some cabinets to put groceries away.

Fantastic location.

Excellent location. The place was nice. There were a few surprises, that upon further investigation were listed in the description. It is listed as a 3 bedroom. It should be listed as a 2 or 2.5 bedroom as the 3rd bedroom is a sofa sleeper (that was terribly uncomfortable). It is located as soon as you walk in the front door and is wide open to the front door. So you can't walk in/out without disturbing people sleeping there. A bedroom should have a door and privacy. Parking for a week at Grand Jardin was 55e. There was also a cleaning charge of 100e which is listed in the description but should maybe just be included in the total price. The place was nice, with an excellent location and parking close. Erika was fantastic and helpful. We really enjoyed the stay, and would do so again. Sorry to dwell on the negative, but extra charges and the 3rd bedroom were surprises that could be communicated better. (my bad as it was listed) Washer and dryer were so helpful also.

Nice apartment in a city

The apartment was wonderful and the city of Vence was pleasant, but getting the keys to the apartment did not go as promised. Before booking, we had asked if a late arrival at 10 pm would be possible, and it was said to be fine. When we called the key giver half an hour before arrival and told her we were at the grocery store and soon in Vence, she got angry and yelled that we weren't allowed to go to the grocery store. According to her, we should have eaten on the plane and brought food with us in suitcases. Finally she said that she won't wait for us, but we have to get the keys from her house, even though we were coming at the pre-arranged time. Finally we walked in Vence and searched her home for keys and explored the apartment on our own. It wasn't the best start to a vacation with hungry kids. In other words, book the apartment if you are sure that there is no traffic jam at the airport or car rental, and you won't get lost on the way, etc. The apartment had everything you needed (remember to buy water and toilet paper in advance from the grocery store), including many guides for the surrounding area. The roof terrace of the apartment was wonderful, with sea-view. The city of Vence is delightful with many restaurants and shops and we made trips to many nearby villages with a rental car.

Hi Kim, I’m sorry you had a bad experience with getting the keys for the house. Having checked with our agent who undertakes all our ‘meet and greet’ guest appointments, we are advised that you arrived at midnight, 2 hours late after arranging for a 10pm late arrival at the house, having first been food shopping without prior warning, and were then rude to our staff about doing so. We try to be as accommodating as possible to our guest families, including arrivals outside working hours as here, but we do ask for a level of cooperation and courtesy in return. Thanks. James.

Traumhaftes Stadthaus

Wir waren für 5 Tage in der Region und fanden dieses hübsche Objekt. Super zentrale Lage in Vence, interessantes Gemäuer, gute Ausstattung und einen tollen Blick von der Dachterasse. Wer aber Luxus erwartet oder benötigt, wird enttäuscht. Ich würde es eher mit dem wahren Leben in Südfrankreich vergleichen - genau dass, was wir gesucht haben. Vence hat eine super Verkehrsanbindung zum Flughafen Nizza, wir haben alles zu Fuß, mit dem Bus, Taxi oder Bolt unternommen. Die Kommunikation lief reibungslos, auch vor Ort. Schickes Haus, zentral gelegen

Wir waren 14 Tage dort, es hat an nichts gefehlt. Das wunderschöne und im französischem Stil eingerichtete Haus hat genügend Platz um sich auch mal auszuklinken. Betten, Bäder und Küche waren sehr gut und sauber. Durch das Alter des Hauses und den vorhandenen Läden konnte die Temperatur im Haus auch gut gehalten werden. Das Haus liegt sehr Zentral, die Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind in 2 (Bäcker/Kiosk) bzw. 5 - 7 Minuten (Richtung Hauptstraße) zu Fuß zu erreichen. Öffis ebenfalls in 7 - 10 Minuten. Man kann mit dem Bus in viele Richtungen fahren, auf einer checkkarten großen Karte (im Kiosk erhältlich/2 €) können die gewünschten Fahrtkarten raufgebucht werden (entweder auch im Kiosk oder an dem Automaten an der Endhaltestelle). Ist relativ neu das System... aber wenn man einmal den Bogen raus hat, ist es total leicht. Vom Bahnhof Cagnes sur Mer aus gehen die Züge in Richtung Monaco oder Antibes/Cannes/Grasse. Viele Informationen Rund um Vence/Nizza und andere Orte erhält man sehr freundlich in der Touristeninfo am Place du Grand Jardin. Wunderschön ist die Altstadt und der Blick von der Dachterrasse aufs Mittelmeer. Die Kontaktaufnahme ist super freundlich und auf Englisch gar kein Problem. Änderungen wurden sofort berücksichtigt. Wir haben uns super wohl gefühlt und würden die Unterkunft jederzeit wieder buchen.

Located nicely but requires renovation

Matrazen müssen dringend erneuert werden. Wer erholsamen Schlaf braucht, sollte diesen woanders suchen. Selbst hartgesottene Zeitgenossen bekommen hier Rückenprobleme. Selbst für uns als Outdoor-Geübte war dies der Fall. Ansonsten ist die Unterkunft zwar nicht die modernste und sollte mal renoviert werden, reicht aber für alle, die nur der Lage wegen mieten. Sie ist ausreichend ausgestattet, vielleicht sogar ein wenig überfüllt. Wenn man sich länger im Haus aufhält, nervt die dauernde Treppensteigerei. Jede Etage besteht nur aus einem Zimmer/Raum, und ggf. noch einem Bad. 2 Minuten entfernt kann man für Kfz einen Tiefgaragenplatz anmieten (mind. 7 Tage), wenn man nicht die teuren Tagessätze bezahlen will. Von der Unterkunft aus kann man alles in der Altstadt zu Fuss gut erreichen. Das ist ein großer Vorteil, da man so auch das umfangreiche Gastronomie-Angebot auf ausgiebig nutzen kann und dafür nicht fahren muss. Warum man 100€ in bar für die Reinigung zahlen muss, wenn diese nicht wirklich gründlich erfolgt ist ( bei uns konnten wir noch diverse Spuren der Vormieter, vor allem in der Küche und den dortigen Utensilien finden), ist uns nicht ganz klar.

Skønt gammelt byhus med charme, tæt på alt

Vi ( to voksne og vores søn på 15) havde en dejlig uge i Vence. Kommunikation og modtagelse fungerede super, møblementet er lidt slidt, men fungerer fint, og huset er hyggeligt, vi brugte tagterrassen flittigt og nød den smukke udsigt over byens tage og mod kysten. Der er meget musik i byen, både gademusikanter og koncerter på det store torv, BL.a en musikfestival først i juli. Vence har Frankrigs mindste katedral, der er et besøg værd, ligeledes Marc Chagall museet i Nice og Fondation Maeght i st. Poul de Vence Vi besøgte byer i omegnen, og Nice med bus. Der er meget at se og vi kommer gerne tilbage, både til huset og byen. Mange hilsner fra Jens, Berit og Lucas

We are an English family from Nottinghamshire. My sister and I first started visiting Vence for our summer holidays with our parents around 30 years ago. We have been coming back to the area for our holidays every year since and now we enjoy our holidays with our children!

Why they chose this property


Vence offers so many options for visitors of all ages - it is simply beautiful! We love the light - it is amazing, loved by artists for generations. The views from the hillside allows you to see the Var and the mountain ranges around Vence, along with views all the way down to the sea.

With a mix of traditional and modern, there really is something for everyone in Vence. The town host an amazing array of events from Fetes du Paques, to the Night Markets and Nuits du Sud. There are so many things to do and see - from beaches to shopping, art exhibitions to walking and broccantes to fine dining, there really is so much choice.

The town boasts an outdoor swimming pool, perfect for cooling off in the summer sun.

Perhaps the best thing about Vence is that everything is on your doorstep and just a walk away!

What makes this property unique

We're biased, but we think 32 Rue Massena is a wonderful place to stay! It is a tasteful, typical French townhouse, with many of its original features still in situ, complemented by art from the local area. It has a quiet location, but it it just a couple of minutes walk from the main Place du Grand Jardin, giving it easy access to the shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries and the many 'town' events organised by the Vence Office de Tourisme.

You don't need a car to get around with the fabulous bus service, taking you to the local train station in Cagnes Sur Mer or the surrounding towns and villages.

The house offers plenty of space to enjoy time in the South of France with family and friends. The main open plan living area or salon is the ideal place to relax, dine and entertain with a large table, seating area and fully equipped kitchen. The salon has stone walls, wooden beams and traditional pendant lighting, with fireplace, settee and TV.

From the salon, stairs lead up to a roof terrace - rare amongst townhouses in Vence - looking out over the rooftops of the old town, and over to the Baou mountains in one direction and the distant sea in the other. The roof terrace is the perfect spot for breakfast, sun bathing, an aperitif or a relaxed meal in the evening and adds a wonderful versatility to the space offered by the house - we often retreat there for a drink and to eat in the cool evening air!
