Mulberry Loft, St Ives, Cornwall, England - Ideally located and moments from the Beaches, Harbour, Shops, Restaurants, Galleries
About Jenny Hannam
Having spent many wonderful family holiday's in St Ives, we finally decided to buy a holiday home about three years ago. After renting several times in St Ives, we knew we wanted a home which was clean with home comforts including a lovely warm shower and a location that wasn't too far from the beaches and activity, but set back a little to be quiet and finding Mulberry Loft is a dream come true for us and just perfect! Each year we update a little more which includes a luxury bathroom, lots of work outside and skylights and this year we're treating the wooden floors, decorating throughout and updating the living room. We've spent a lot of time in Cornwall and have been lucky enough to have worked at the Cornish University supporting Falmouth and Exeter who share a campus in Penryn. We've also been involved with traditional Cornish Gig rowing which isn't for the faint hearted. I also enjoy the art scene which is very varied to suit all tastes and a treat is attending the local St Ives historic art club. We can't forget to mention the surfing and for us to be honest it is a bit of body boarding in fair weather, so when the surf is right we go down to the beach and watch the experts!

Why Jenny Hannam chose Saint Ives
St Ives is perfect with the wonderful as there is so much to do. Feeling arty, then I can go to the local drop in art studios, galleries, the Tate. The light has pulled artists to the area for years. Then there are so many places to walk and our favourite is to walk to Lelant railway station via Carbis bay beaches and catch the train back! With a harbour, three beaches within a stones through, we can spend a lazy day relaxing or having a go at body surfing, or just admiring the many surfers on the beach! The shops are varied and then where do we start with the restaurants! We simply love St Ives x
What makes this Cottage unique
The property is in the heart of the historic fishing quarter and grade II listed. The location is central enough, but set back from the busy restaurants and galleries. With so much to do in St Ives, many park up the car for the week not venturing further afield. With a train station and local bus service, getting around Cornwall is reasonably easy. However for those wanting to venture further the famous Eden Project and some wonderful gardens. "Mulberry Loft" - a beautifully furnished and well equipped bolthole in historic quarters of St Ives
This was our third visit to Mulberry Loft and although had previously thought a great location, now that we are more familiar with St Ives, really appreciate just how perfect. Back Road East is situated at the "island" end of St Ives, a very quaint and historic area with the main harbour less than 5 minutes down a picturesque cobbled passageway. Three lovely sandy beaches are within 10-15 minutes walk (Bamaluz/Porthwidden and Porthmeor), with Porthminster Beach and Carbis Bay a nice walk away. For a wilder walk, the coastal path to Zennor is spectacular. We were lucky enough to see seals most days.
We felt spoilt for choice with the lovely individually run cafes and restaurants, again all within the "island" and harbour facility - marvellous! Of course, this area is well known for art galleries - so something for everyone.
Mulberry Loft has been tastefully renovated and we love the vaulted ceilings in the lounge and main bedroom. The artwork and "finishing touches" in all rooms gives a feel of "boutique" accommodation and is very tasteful. The owners have also equipped the house very well - we couldn't think of anything they might have missed!
We brought online a "season" car park ticket for a month (wish we could have stayed that long!) as was cheaper than the weekly ticket. We were lucky to find a space each day in Island Car Park but the ticket also covers Barnoon Long Stay which isn't too far away.
Thank you so much to the owners for a perfect stay.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful review
Very good value for money
Flat had everything you might need in it, although we ate out most of the time. Master bedroom and bathroom in particular were excellent . Weather was fine and there was an Art exhibition which made the town alive. Lots of pub entertainment in the evening . The only difficulty was trying to get the key box open on our departure.
Thank you so much for your kind words. A shame about the key situation as our housekeeping couldn’t find a problem, but recognise it can be fiddly and will check to see if there is an easier safe on the market for our guests.
Fantastic property in perfect location. Ideal for a family.
Having visited St Ives from other resorts we knew which area we wanted to stay. Having looked for 3 bedroomed accommodation Mulberry Loft ticked all our boxes. The only negative could be the parking, but we were fortunate enough to get parked in the island car park and didn’t need to use the car for the full week. We walked easily to the beaches each day and shops restaurants all within walking distance. The accommodation has everything you could think of included, making it a great home from home experience. The kitchen is very well equipped and a comfortable space, as a family of four we could easily sit at the table for meals. The washer was a great extra. The lounge was very comfy and great tv/DVD/WiFi facilities. The bedrooms were well proportioned and the sink in the master bedroom was a useful addition. The only negative maybe the low beam at the top of the stairs but we soon remembered to duck!!! All in all a fantastic weeks holiday and we will definitely be recommending Mulberry Loft to anyone and everyone we know visiting St Ives and I am sure we will definitely return. Jenny was great to deal with and answered a couple of questions I had quickly and efficiently. Thanks again.
Really lovely flat in a fantastic location
We had a great time and really appreciated the flat - more spacious than we expected and beautifully decorated
Thank you so much for taking time to provide such a lovely comment. Jenny
Fabulous location in a boutique style pad
This was our second visit to Mulberry Loft and hope to book again. The location is perfect being within easy walking distance from either beach and also the shops and restaurants! Mulberry Loft is extemely well equipped, very comfy beds and lovely decor - very relaxing base and we would definitely recommend.
Thank you for such a lovely review
Comfortable and convenient
Perfectly placed, it was easy for us to walk to the beaches, into the centre of town for shopping, and to the bus and train station. Everything we needed was in the house and we loved the sofas, they were massively comfy to sit and relax after surfing and exploring all day. Would definitely recommend. Thank you very much for a great week.
A 5 minute walk to Porthmeor Beach is our Blue Flag Atlantic family & surfing beach with surf school, fine golden sand, good sunbathing by day and spectacular sunsets and cafe.
Also a 5 min walk is Porthgwidden, a delightful small sandy cove and sun-trap with safe bathing [but keep inside line of buoys] with wonderful cafe.
2 minutes walk to the Harbour a tidal, sandy harbour and working port.
15 minutes walk to Porthminster beach boasting almost half a mile of golden sands.
As we are in the central historic Downalong fishing quarter the car parking is literally 5 minute walk away. Guests usually drop off luggage and park up. Follow A30 from Exeter by car towards Cornwall and St Ives. There are good train links from London through to Exeter and St Ives. Airports are Newquay and Exeter.
We are in St Ives and a 5 minutes walk to the Tate
For artists the famous Porthmeor Studios backing onto the beach have many courses throughout the year, including drop in sessions. St Ives has a wonderful mix of galleries and the Tate.
