About this property

Our Little Greek House | Villa | Rhodes | Welcome to The Citrus House

The Citrus House is our second home and we are delighted to have opened it up for people to come and enjoy all the west coast of Rhodes has to offer.

The villa sits on the edge of the quaint little Greek village Kalavarda, where you can embrace the Greek way of life, in fact it's very hard not too. Our guests are always welcomed into the local taverna's, and the Greek ladies who go for their morning swim most days will always shout 'Kalimera' , Life in Kalavarda is simple, slow and wonderful!

A beautiful spacious villa suitable for families, groups and couples. Three bedrooms sleeping up to six people. (please see notes about 3rd bedroom layout) and a relaxing well maintained garden where you can enjoy a cooling dip in the plunge pool. With Sea and mountain views and only a 5 minute walk to the local beach you’ll feel well and truly relaxed from the moment you arrive.

Kalavarda is a well known popular spot in the Kitesurfing community, bringing a wonderful summer vibe to the area.

The house is a perfect base for exploring, an easy 20 minute drive from the airport and a 30 minute drive into Rhodes Town. Well maintained mountain roads take you over to the east coast or up into the middle of the island with incredible views.

The local bus runs frequently or If you prefer car hire just let me know and I can help you arrange flexible hire for a very reasonable price with a hassle free service from a local provider.

The house is professionally maintained with our English housekeepers living close bye.

The Citrus House offers a great location if you prefer a quiet environment away from the resorts. It's also spacipus, comfortable amd well-equipped - just what we needed after 10 days of fairly intense travelling (which is always wonderful, but exhausting!). We hired a car at superb rates from a provider recommended by the owner and found it very easy to explore the island from the base im Kalavarda. Comms was also exceptional.

The property was everything we could have wanted. It was immaculate and had everything you could possibly need. The owners have thought of everything . The location was perfect for us , in walking distance of the beach and the gorgeous village square . Lovely authentic Greek restaurants close by and more beautiful beaches down the coast road . Perfect .

Es hat alles super geklappt. Das Haus ist wunderschön, sauber und toll eingerichtet. Es gibt alles was man braucht. Abends auf dem Balkon zu sitzen war wunderschön. Die Vermieterin war sehr nett und wir können das Haus nur weiterempfehlen.

2 wunderschöne Wochen

Wir hatten 2 sehr schöne Wochen im Citrus House und haben uns auf Anhieb wohlgefühlt. Der Kontakt zu den Vermietern war sehr nett und es wurde sehr schnell reagiert (bei einem Ausfall der Wasserversorgung). Die Einrichtung entsprech genau den Fotos, war aber etwas spartanisch, was für uns aber kein Problem war. Nur die Kaffeemaschine könnte durch eine Maschine ersetzt werden (Heizplatte leicht angerostet). Die Lage war für uns ideal. Das Einzige, was uns manchmak nachts störte, waren die bellenden Hunde. Aber das hat natürlich nichts mit der Wohnung zu tun. Wir würden die Wohnunh nochmals mieten.

Zwei schöne Wochen im Citrus House

Das Citrus House hat eine tolle Lage in Kalavarda, der Ortskern ist in zwei Minuten Fußweg zu erreichen, die Taverne dort können wir sehr empfehlen. Aber auch der Strand mit der Taverne Sea House ist fußläufig in zehn Minuten zu erreichen. Die Ausstattung des Hauses könnte besser sein (die Bluetooth-Boxen konnten nicht geladen werden, weil die Kabel nicht da waren, Sonnenschirme für den Strand gab es auch keine, obwohl in der Beschreibung). Die Küche war für uns (zwei Personen) ausreichend, leider waren die Messer stumpf. Wir haben aber auch nicht gekocht, sondern nur dort gefrühstückt. Betten waren super. Beim Ankommen hätte das Haus etwas sauberer sein können, Böden waren wohl nicht gereinigt. Ansonsten haben wir den Urlaub dort sehr genossen.

"Being able but not wanting"

The owner did not follow HomeAways intention of refund , 3 weeks erlier return due to covid 19 at our 8 week stay. The owner feels greedy and stingy. On arrival 18 hours erlier than planned,we had to pay an overpriced for overnight stay. Directly at covid 19restrictions in Greece, we were "offered " 4 weeks before planned return trip to stay until June, because the owner needed money! We got repeated reminders to save on electricity and Wifi. We were not allowed to recieve family members for more than 1 week without paying extra. The best with the house was the owners subcontractor Steve, who arranged everything without blame. The grill that would be in the inventory list did not exist, but Steve arranged one. The old faucet at the sink leaked when we arrived and caused later flooding at night, but Steve quickly arranged for a plummer. Steve knew that the front door was leaking water during every rain, but had not recieved permission from the owner to fix this. The shortcomings were many current equipment. The knives was unusable. Not even basic kitchen appliances were available. Cutting boards were old and unhygienic. Outdoor furniture cushions were broken and dirty. Mold was developed against exterior walls in several rooms. We are entrepreneurs in the hospitality industry in our home country, but would never treat costumers in this way. Although the area and the house are nice, we cannot recommend the owner.

Lovely Island

Dear Karen! The Citrus House was quite easy to find and the house was clean and fortunately the fridge was equiped with everything we needed for first breakfast - thank you for that. Steve was very helpful and friendly - we felt very welcome. We were a little upsed that the third bedroom turned out to be a space behind the bathroom whitout window or door. The description on the homepage was "3 bedrooms" - but the kids accepted that. For a family of five was the table on the balcony a little too small and only four chairs but we dealed with it by taking the table and chairs form the terrasse and so we spend great evenings on the balcony with a fantastic view. For me as a busy mum would have been a dishwasher a great help in the kitchen. Rhodes is a great place to be and we discovered the whole island by car. The citrus house was a great homebase - and the wonderful seahouse taverna at the beach. Fabulous food. I could absolutely recommend the villa - but only for families of four if they are like us and love cooking and sitting together. When you love to stay the days out and have lunch or dinner in a taverna, you can fill the villa with up to six people. Even if I had bad luck (slipped on the stairs and broke my ellbow in the second week of our stay) I would love to return to Rhodes.

Wir sind rundum zufrieden!

Wir haben zu dritt eine wundervolle Woche im "citrus house" verbracht. Die Fahrzeit vom Flughafen beträgt nur etwa 25 Minuten und dank der guten Beschreibung ist das Haus leicht zu finden. Die Lage bietet sich an, um von dort aus Tagesausflüge z.B. nach Lindos oder Rhodos Stadt zu unternehmen. Die Küche ist komplett ausgestattet, alles war sauber und hat funktioniert, die Klimaanlage hat uns abends sehr gute Dienste geleistet. Die Schlafzimmer verfügen über ausreichend Stauraum und die Betten sind mit sehr guten Matratzen ausgestattet. Es gibt frische Handtücher, Bettwäsche und ein Telefon mit allen wichtigen Nummern für den Notfall. Bei durchgehend sommerlichen Temperaturen haben wir die Strände, das Meer, den Balkon und den Garten in vollen Zügen genossen. Die Menschen waren unglaublich freundlich und wir hatten eine tolle Zeit. Vielen Dank an Karen, Steven, Lisa

A well presented property in a quiet village

A very relaxed place to stay and enjoyed exploring Rhodes. On a negative note, a proper shower not just a hand held shower head to wash down with in a bath without even a shower curtain would have been better and the plunge pool had a lot of gravel in it, feel it should have been cleaned before we arrived, but overall a good place.

Everything you could want or need

Karen has thought of everything with this place. It's a great space with a lovely balcony and garden in an authentic Greek village. Quieter side of the island and wilder sea, perfect for kitesurfers. Easy to get to from the airport and helpful maintenance man Steve helped us with an inexpensive taxi to a wedding. Great place. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Villa away from the tourist route

We stayed at the Citrus House for a week in the middle of tourist season. Fortunately in Kalavarda it does not feel crowded at all. Instead we relaxed at the private Mini-Pool, had a great time at the nearby beach, where you get sunbeds and a place in the shade for free and ate at secluded Tavernas. The villa itself is very beautiful and well thought about. You find absolutely everything you might need. The beds are comfy, everything is clean, the interior is very nice and the information about the region, that they have stocked in a guestbook are helpful too. Overall we had a wonderful stay and we would love to come again sometime in the future :D

Very nice house, not far away from the beach. The village is very typical, no many tourist and the Greeks are very friendly. The villa is a terraced house, so you have neighbours (we didn't read it and we think that it's an important information).

Relaxation at it's best

A glorious stay in a beautiful place. You couldn't wish for a more relaxing place to wyle away the time and the beautiful Greek sun. It had everything we needed in a lovely friendly village where we were made to feel so welcome. Somehow I don't think it will be the last time we visit Citrus House. Thanks to Karen for making the booking so easy. And for Steve for helping when we got there.

Why they chose this property

The Citrus House welcomes you with open arms just like the locals of Kalavarda. Fully equipped with everything you need for your holiday, you'll feel at home from the minute you walk through the door.

Stunning sea and mountain views, a peaceful location with nothing more than the sound of the local children playing, the odd tractor passing or the local Greek baker sounding his horn I can promise you you well slip into the Greek way of life very quickly.

Located in a pretty little village on the west coast of the island. Away from the crowds this village is the perfect place to relax and gather your thoughts or if you like a more active holiday then hiring a bike couldn't be easier, the bike hire man is just across the road. It's also great for hiking, walking and is quickly becoming well known amongst the Kite Surf community with a recently opened KiteSurf centre.

Although traditional and quiet it still has several tavernas within a short walk and is only a 5 minute stroll to the local beach. Just a 20 minute drive from the airport and 30 minutes to the vibran, famous Rhodes Town with plenty of larger and equally as lovely villages along the coast road.

Kalavarda is a truly wonderful little village with some truly wonderful friendly people.

What makes this property unique

The house is perfectly situated for you to enjoy both mountain and see views. It boasts it's own private garden and plunge pool. The house is cleverly designed with the bedrooms downstairs so they are nice and cool in the heat of the summer sun.

The house has a large open plan fully equipped living area upstairs plus two balconies so you really can catch the sun or if you prefer, the shade all day long. And no matter where you sit you will enjoy beautiful views.

Perfectly situated next to a citrus grove at certain times of the year it's possible to go pick your own fruits or you may even open your front door one morning to find a bag left for you by the local farmer.

We have equipped the house with everything you could possibly need to enjoy your holiday.
