About this property

Converted Barn Nestled In The Countryside

Situated in Saint Brice de Landelles, a village with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, Le Haut Champ gîte is a converted barn dating from the 19th century and is full of character with modern conveniences.

It is set in a tranquil location with stunning views of the local countryside yet close to historic sites, such as Le Mont Saint Michel, Fougères Castle, Dinan, Saint Malo, Rennes, The Cascades in Mortain and many others. Being only a few kilometres from both the Brittany and Pays de la Loire borders it is the perfect location to enjoy the many visitor attractions and local towns and villages the three regions have to offer.

Within easy reach you can discover plenty of walks and cycle routes throughout the countryside or on the dedicated Voie Verte pathways, beaches with miles of sand, interesting towns and villages, beautiful gardens or a variety of museums and galleries with an abundance of history. Alternatively you could find a local café to relax in with a glass of wine, cider or a cup of coffee and just enjoy a slice of French life.

Local facilities in Saint Martin de Landelles (5 km) include a local baker, grocers, butcher and a restaurant. Nearby there are some great restaurants serving traditional French cuisine (Chez Agnès in Lapenty is a favourite). The nearest town of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët is just a 15 minute drive away with its popular weekly market brimming with local produce and regional specialities. Avranches and Fougères are large towns with busy markets and a good range of bars, restaurants and shops and both are only 30 minutes away.

Close to 3 ferry ports (Caen, Cherbourg and Saint Malo) and Rennes airport Le Haut Champ gîte is perfect for visiting southern Normandy and the neighbouring regions or as a stopover en route to the centre/south of France.

About the host

Hosted by Simon and Anne Frost

Host profile image
Anne and I (Simon) are originally from Hampshire but moved to Normandy in 2013 with our two cats, Molly and Gizmo. Over the years we have spent much time traveling in France but we fell in love with the Normandy/Brittany people, countryside, history and of course the food and drink! We live next door to the gîte and will be happy to provide as much or as little help as you require. For those of you who have limited experience of France, we will be delighted to share our tips and local knowledge, provide you with suggested day itineraries or you may just prefer to use Le Haut Champ to explore by yourselves. Either way, we look forward to welcoming you to our gîte.

Why they chose this property

We chose this part of southern Normandy for the beautiful countryside, the close proximity to the coast, the climate, the historic sights and leisure activities, and its’ easy access to the Channel ports. We love the friendliness of the people, the delicious food and drink, the markets, the slower pace of life here and the variety of things that you can choose to do each day. We were also attracted by the closeness to neighbouring Brittany which is just 3 fields away! It’s also a short car journey over the border to the Pays de la Loire, so there are plenty of opportunities to explore all three regions.

What makes this property unique

Although we are in a rural situation, on a no through road and surrounded by fields it is easy to reach many of the local villages within minutes and other large towns in 30 - 45 minutes. Because we are in a rural area we also have spectacular views of the sky at night. So it can be useful to bring your binoculars, sit in the garden after dark and appreciate the clear view of the stars and sky. You may also be able to catch a glimpse of our resident barn owl!
