Rose Tremiere is a characterful property perfectly situated in a quiet residential corner of Meschers between the shops, the port and the beach. It is well appointed, kept spotlessly clean and we took great pleasure in eating our meals below the trees in the garden. We enjoyed lots of walking nearby but also found it easy to drive to the many interesting places further along the coast in both directions.

Another great review for Rose Tremiere, these guests enjoyed the house and the garden.
(nb the guests that stayed the previous week and left us a bad review because of the dogs next door failed to mention that they had two dogs with them)

Small house with lovely garden near the caves, with very easy parking in late August. Small kitchen but well equipped. Garden/beach chairs etc provided. Very helpful owner, good communication.
Great to have the supermarket so near, just a few minutes walk. Plages de Nonnes is beautiful, 15 mins walk - with good beach bar serving good range of food and drinks.
Good base to explore the area, lots to see and do.

Another lovely, honest review for Rose Tremiere. As it says, house well equipped and near to all commodities - beach, shops etc.
Encore merci!

Perfect location for a break by the coast
We had a wonderful time staying in Rose Tremaine, it was small but perfectly formed for us and our two small children. The kids really appreciated the toys, both for in the house and the beach and we appreciated the location, being able to walk to the nearest beach or into the village was great. The beaches, sandy, gently shelving and not too busy even in school holidays and we made the most of them, any attempts at something more cultural failed and we headed back to the beach. Shelly emailed lots of ideas about where to eat and go which was much appreciated. A great place to stay.

Another great reveiw for Rose Tremiere. As the guests said, ideally situated for the sandy beach or the town centre. We try and make different guests stay special - toys for young ones (along with cot, high chair, potty etc to leave room in your car) and comfy chairs for the garden for those that prefer to relax there.

Good location but....
Good location spoilt by dogs in adjoining garden who, if they were out, barked every time we moved.
Small house, quite cave like, which was clearly kitted out to a very tight budget. Beds not great, but it did have wifi and a TV.

We have many repeat bookings, so must be doing a lot of things right - read our other reviews. The house is advertised as a small house, I wouldn't call it 'cave like' at all. Never had complaints about the beds, but I am buying new mattresses for next season anyway.
Rose Tremiere has a great location, near to beach, shops, market, restaurants etcs
I'm sorry if next door's dogs disturbed you. I did say that if you have ANY problems whatsoever to contact me - unfortunately this was not the case. If you had done so I'd have contacted the neighbours immediately to complain about their dogs.

A relaxing holiday in a comfortable gite.
We have just had a wonderful, relaxing holiday based at Rose Tremiere, situated in a peaceful location in Meschers. Shelley provided lots of useful information about the cottage and the local area in advance of our visit and also when she met us on arrival - it was good to have that personal contact. The property was clean and equipped as described on the website. The garden was an added bonus and the shade of the large tree invaluable in the high temperatures we experienced. It really is within walking distance of the beach, shops and port - we went for days without moving the car.
Rochefort (about 45mins / 1hour away) was a good day out. The walk to Talmont with all of the birds in the marsh area was also great - for a cooler day as there is no shade.
We would definitely stay here again if we return to this part of France. Thank you Shelley for such a warm welcome and a lovely base for our holiday.

Wonderful Relaxing Holiday
The property is situated in a lovely Small French village, with great walking access to a stunning beach, lovely port area with restaurants and great views from the top of the road over the River Gironde. Supermarket/Petrol also 1 minute away. We have stayed here 4 years in a row and currently planning our 5th return. The village is away from the main stream tourist areas, but Royan can be accessed easily by bus (20mins) for 1.60 euro if you want to leave the car behind.
Lovely clean property, with great customer service.

A peaceful French holiday home!
This is a property that has everything you could need for a short holiday or longer term. All the equipment in the kitchen that you need, a very comfortable double bed & good bathroom facilities. We have spent 4 holidays here (2016 already booked) and cannot recommend it enough. The garden is an added bonus to idle a few hours away in. A supermarket is within walking distance, bakers and village life with restaurants, takeaway food and stationers, etc., are also a short walk away. The Port of Meschers, which also has restaurants is nearby as well as 2 beaches. You really don't need a car if you want to completely relax, but if you feel the need, there are numerous places to visit within a reasonably distance.
The booking process with Shelley is trouble free and any questions are answered quickly. All in all, Rose Tremiere is the ideal stay in Meschers and I promise, you will not be disappointed with this choice of accommodation.

Thank you for the super review. We hope we've hit the mark with Rose Tremiere, a lovely 2 bedroomed house. As this review states, easy walking distance to the beach, commerce and restaurants. Lots to do and see in the area, or relax in the garden. We must be doing something right as we have many guests who return year after year.

Very relaxing time
Was looking for suitable accommodation for a 1 week stay that wasn't going to cost us an arm and a leg and found Rose Tremiere! Shelley made the booking process very easy and was quick to respond. she gave us lots of information beforehand about the gite! She was there to meet us on arrival and showed us round! The gite was immaculate, full of old French character with wood/stone floor and lots of wood. But all the mod cons we like too, microwave, brilliantly efficient shower, wifi! Meschers is a quiet town with hardly any English people so we were able to experience the French way of life at a slow pace - everything was within walking distance so we didn't need to drive very far, lovely plages des Nonnes - 10 mins walk up over the headland, with el surf restaurant which served lovely food, or 10 mins to the port where there were more fine eateries such as la marina, le cappucino and the mango ice cream parlour and another 10 min walk into the centre of town where there was the market and super u and more restaurants and patisseries! But if you want to travel further afield there is a Royan and Palmyre and several other places further along the coast. A trip to Palmyre zoo is a must! We are now looking at properties in this area to buy ourselves, however as we want one on the top of the headland looking out to sea, and it might take a while to save up, we might be back at Rose Tremiere before you know it.

Great holiday in Meschers
Fantastic village with plenty to do. 2 beaches close by and many places of interest to visit locally. The local port has many good restaurants to choose from and the high street has frequent markets. It is also handy to have a supermarket within easy reach and some fantastic bakeries to sample the cakes from!

What could be better!
Everything about Rose Tremiere is as described, clean and well maintained, everything supplied within it for a 'home from home' holiday. The garden is a great added bonus for lazing about, reading etc. We have stayed here several times, and will in the future, so that must be recommendation in itself. Shelley is great to contact & always ready to answers any queries you may have.
The area itself is nearby to many places, so with a car you can explore further afield, without it taking too long to get there. Lots of walks as well, if you arrive without a car. Supermarket for your every need is a few minutes walk away, whilst in the 'high street' there are other shops, a smaller supermarket, Post Office, boulangeries, paper shop etc, as well as ' Le Mille Sabords' restaurant, one of our favourites, run by a very pleasant couple, who speak English, thankfully!!! Several other restaurants are around the Port which is not too far, a nice comfortable walk away.
Meschers retains that village feel that is lost in a lot of resorts further down south, quiet and peaceful, what could be better than that.
Book it, you won't regret it!

Rose Tremier
This is our second very enjoyable year at the property. Shelley and Carl make the booking process very easy and the property is handed over very clean and tidy. They are always contactable, if there is a problem and very approachable.
The property is a well presented 2 bedroom bungalow, with a great power shower, Wifi and English TV. The garden is large enough for relaxing and BBQing. There is space to park a car on the quiet street outside the property.
Meschers-Sur-Gironde is a great place to relax, with beaches, restaurants, supermarket and local market all within easy walking distances. In fact our car broke down for a few days, and we did not miss it, while it was being repaired in Royan.
Meschers is not commercialised in any way and a true taste of quiet French living. Great for sea food lovers. The nearby beach is flat with fine white sand and ideal for children, with life guard cover.
A cycle/walking path follows the coast to Talmont about 4 miles away. Car journeys to Cognac, La Rochelle and Rochefort are all under an hour.
We have booked again for the 3rd time, in 2015.

About the host
Hosted by Shelley Smith
We moved to SW France from London in 2002 with our two young children. We live in the countryside, 1 hour from Meschers, but are always availabel if you need us and we will see you into our houses. We had a successful antiques and collectables business, but craved the quieter life for ourselves and our children. As Carl was a builder before, it was no problem for us to do up our own houses. We still love going to brocante markets and shops and continue our passion for old things by kitting out our houses and our home.
Why they chose this property
We love Meschers as it is a small town by the sea. Everything is easily accessible on foot - the beach, shops, bars, restaurants, supermarket, pleasure port and fresh produce market. It is a great base for exploring the area too, there is so much to see and do if you want to go out and about. If not, it's a lovely part of the world to wander - pine forests, cave dwellings in the cliff face, or just sit and have a drink and watch the world go by. Easy access by road (A16 motorway is 30 mins away), Bordeaux and La Rochelle airports.
What makes this property unique
No long hot car journey, enjoy the beach when you want, great for relaxing, playing, sailing, jet skis etc. available to hire either at Meschers or at nearby St Georges de Didonne. Walk down to a local restaurant, or get BBQ provisions from the market or supermarket. Relax in the garden or go out and about.
