Enjoy Stunning Sea Views From A Detached Contemporary Coastal Holiday Home

Thorpe is a detached, contemporary, 5 bedroom coastal house with stunning views to the sea and a short walk to the beach and town. This 1930's house was extensively modernized in 2008 (as featured on BBC1 Homes programme) to provide luxury accommodation throughout. A sunken hot tub in the front decking enjoys the best views of Woolacombe beach. Thorpe is a family home, maintained to a high standard throughout. We enjoy fabulous guest reviews which are really important to us.
We now offer shorter bookings for 4 days + out of school holidays.

Stunning views of Woolacombe beach. Although the garden doesn’t back directly onto the beach, there is a cut-through with some steps which takes you to the sand on no time. A beautiful property and the hot tub is a real bonus!

8 Mums escaping from husbands and kids for a weekend, and we couldnt have stayed in a more perfect home. It's so close to the beach, it was great to be able to go for a sea swim, followed by an outdoor shower and then in to the hot tub. The beds were all comfy, the entire house was clean and the layout so thoughtfully planned. Already considering it for our weekend next year!

We were looking forward to our visit to Woolacombe and our stay at Thorpe. We’d discovered the property on VRBO as one does and it seemed attractive, well appointed, well situated. We were not disappointed! Nothing fell short of expectations. Stef, who manages the property, welcomed us and was available for any questions we had during our visit. Chris, the owner, communicated any details before and during our stay. It was a sublime stay, and we highly recommend it.

What can we say but WOW!!!! As soon as you walk into the lobby and through to the lounge a light ,spacious room greets you with phenomenal views across Woolacombe Bay. Many an evening was spent relaxing on the terrace absorbing beautiful sunsets. The kitchen was really well equipped in all areas, better than any other holiday home we have stayed in before, in the UK and abroad. The quality of everything was excellent. We were so looking forwards to our second week.

From the minute we pulled up outside the property there were words like "amazing"..."wow"..."fabulous". We were a family of 9 and the property met everyone's expectations (and more). The view was awesome, and waking up to that every day was a highlight. The house layout is outstanding, plenty of space for everyone, with all the amenities you could ask for. The juke box was a brilliant add and was very much enjoyed by us all. We were all very sad to leave.

Fabulous house in a stunning location

Thorpe is a large light house with an uninterrupted view of Woolacombe Beach. It is extremely well appointed but is very much a family home. Three of the bedrooms have stunning views. We were a party of 8 with 2 extra guests for a couple of nights and the house accommodated well. We cooked in a few nights and found the kitchen had every convenience. We used the hot tub which was ready to go and clean as was the BBQ. The hosts were generous sharing their own belongings including beach gear and record collection. All in all a brilliant stay we would rent this house again.

Wow! What an amazing find! Great location, beautifully decorated and a very well equipped kitchen. We booked this house for a 50th birthday celebration and it did not disappoint. We had a fabulous time at Thorpe. It was a great location. The accommodation was lovely, clean and with everything one could need. The only minor thing was the recycling and bins. It was very confusing. We put the black bin out on Thursday morning. Lucky we did as they emptied it Thursday lunchtime rather than the Friday which it said in the kitchen although I then subsequently noticed it was listed as Thursday in the accommodation book.

Wow. House, view, beds, terrace, view, kitchen, atmosphere, view and view and view. And everything. Photo's exactly how it is. You can rent luxury and comfort, this is just that and atmosphere. We felt at home instantly and more. And the view ooohhhhh ;-). We could check in early and check out late - no prob. So go here, buy a Pinot Grizio Rose Italia in de local supermarket, sit down and look, drink, watch and enjoy. Our lady friend gave her stay a 10+. Thank you Liz and Chris

Week 2 of our stay at Thorpe.

Well, the WOW factor continues. The property is so well located for easy access to the beach, town and coastal walks. There are so many positives about Thorpe; such as the hot outdoor shower after a day on the beach, the terrace to relax on after a fun day surfing or walking, the snug for a family games evening, and even the lovely large dining table where we would catch up on everybody's adventures of the day over a family dinner. Thorpe really does feel like a family home rather than just another holiday let.

We live in the Cotswolds in England, have two kids now in their 20s, ran a Telecoms business for 25 years (now sold), met in 1980 and realised our dream of a fabulous coastal holiday home to enjoy in Woolacombe England (called Thorpe) and a Villa in Crete (called Caliz) and more recently a converted 17th Century barn & Annex in the Cotswolds (called Mulberry Barn) .
We enjoy running our small holiday lettings business ~ it really matters to us that guests have a great holiday experience.

Why they chose this property

Detached houses rarely come on the market in Woolacombe so when Thorpe appeared we snapped it up!

The location and views were the primary reasons for our decision. Thorpe had only been owned by two families since it was built in the late 1920's. Although rather tired we felt it had great potential so set about a complete redevelopment of the property. BBC1 featured Thorpe in their TV series about redeveloping houses.

What makes this property unique

Thorpe ticks all the boxes for us! Stunning views over Woolacombe's 3Km blue flag golden sandy beach yet only a short walk to the town centre.

A real family home that accommodates up to 10 people (sorry, no pets & non-smoking!) Thorpe is a great place to unwind and relax. Amazing walks from your door step, pubs and restaurants nearby, a few minutes stroll to the beach and even the UKs oldest nightclub (The Marisco 1967) in walking distance! A fabulous place to enjoy all year round.
We maintain Thorpe to a high level of decor and are delighted that our guests respect and enjoy it as a family home. It is not a party venue as the maximum occupancy is for 10 people. It is not suitable for under 5's (except babies) as there are many steps and a high level of decor maintained.
