In an historic street close to the quayside, this cottage provides an atmospheric base for exploring Brixham. The host was very helpful. VRBO, as the booking platform could improve its procedures.
Great hosts from the start of booking, fabulous communication. Lovely welcome basket of goodies and a Christmas tree and Christmas decorations around the cottage. Comfy beds, well equipped cottage to cook a large Christmas dinner. Perfect location, within walking distance of the harbour. Will be back!

Perfect escape - pretty, charming and tranquil
Thank you for the perfect Christmas in your beautiful cottage. From the moment we stepped over the threshold we relaxed. Beautiful decor, thoughtful welcome pack, very comfy beds with fluffy duvets and pillows. Great pub only 15 paces away from the front door yet the cottage was so so quiet. Wished we could have stayed longer...

Thank you so much for the lovely review, your Christmas break sounds delightful! So pleased you loved our little cottage.
We had several properties including the one next door to you, and I have to say I liked yours the best as it accommodated the 4 of us perfectly and we had some room to all sit together as there were a total of 12 of us and 3 children but pent of room to sit and talk and get together with all.
We will definitely try and get this property again as Sara was very accommodating and comunicative and I felt bad that I could not respond to you as the messages were coming in on my U.S. based phone but I could not get back to you through it.
In any case we enjoyed the stay and we thank you for everything.
Sehr freundliche Vermieterin. Sehr empfehlenswert!
We loved staying here. It's just a few minutes walk to the quay and the property has amazing character with suprisngly large rooms. We have two young kids and we had to be wary of the steep stairs, however they loved exploring all the rooms. Would definitely recommend staying here!
We loved the quirky nature of Rose Cottage! Our young kids loved sleeping in their attic bedroom, and we enjoyed the coastal decor, well thought out furnishings and little touches - a thoughtful welcome basket for example. The stairs may not be ideal for more elderly visitors but they were no problem for us. And the location couldn’t be better - a stones throw from everything Brixham has to offer. It was our first visit to this lovely little town but I’m certain we’ll be back and we’d definitely look to stay here again. Lovely place, would recommend.

Thank you, i'm glad you had a nice time, we aim to please!!
This is a super, cosy cottage with great atmosphere. The kitchen may be small but it’s properly equipped (even a salad spinner) for cooks who want to enjoy Brixham’s excellent produce. Roll top bathtub is great after chilly walks. Lovely little outside space. Sara was a great host.
Booking and accessing property very efficient. Property has all you would need. Stairs are very steep as stated and caused a giggle when climbing them after a 4 mile cliff walk. Beds very comfortable. Although elder daughter managed to sleep in attic room it was quite a skill not on bump her head. Only negative was parking although we were told where there was free parking it was quite difficult to find and we ended up parking in central car park over night and trying again the next day. Driving around Brixham was quite a challenge but we knew that before we came. All in all a good time was had by all.
We really love this cosy cottage and sunny back terrace with easy access to the shops and beautiful walks. Perfect for a family of four. Extra nice to have a collection of books and dvds. Sara was super helpful to us in a time of need.
Lovely cosy cottage just as short walk from the town. Fantastic bathroom with walk in shower and roll top bath.
Welcomed with some lovely biscuits and jams which were delicious!
Lots of information left by the owners which was very helpful.
If you love the Brixham fisherman’s cottages you will love this one.
Kleines Cottage, wie beschrieben !
Netter Kontakt zur Vermieterin !
Wir haben uns zu fünft (mit drei ausgewachsenen Kindern) sehr wohl gefühlt!
...we loved it !!!
A quaint, traditional cottage, well appointed with everything you need for a trouble free comfortable stay.
Excellent location, just 5mins walk to the centre of town and harbour.
We all had a fabulous long weekend stay in this cosy cottage which has adorable features, a fabulous bathroom and WiFi.
We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.
Loved it, loved it, loved it.... thank you.
Thoughtfully decorated, this cottage is bright, cheerful, and has a bathroom to die for. It was spotless, with crisp linens on the beds and a welcome basket of goodies on the table.
Brixham town is steps away: dining, drinks, and coffee, where, if you’re early enough, you’ll get to mingle with the locals. The new Wine Loft is practically on your doorstep, with a clean modern look and a knowledgeable and engaging proprietor.
While parking can seem daunting, Sara is right about dropping your bags at the door and venturing up the streets to higher ground. We found spots up near the local school, and we got in our stair workout to boot.
Nothing but the highest marks for Rose Cottage and Brixham!
Stayed for two nights in June while sailing from Darthaven Harbour. Found the cottage easily enough. Very happy to see a little pub two doors down. Cottage was immaculate inside and out. Plenty of choice for eating out in Brixham, and little shops for the essentials. Stairs and very steep but all the rooms are spacious. We would definitely book again.

Great cottage, shame about parking misinformation
The cottage itself is lovely, clean and well-appointed. We did not expect parking to be easy in Brixham, but as the amenities listed include "parking" we assumed that there must be a space somewhere behind the cottage. This was a big factor in our choosing this cottage, as we knew we had to drive around a lot to see friends. In fact there is no private parking associated with the cottage, and no public parking nearby.

On the listing we state clearly under
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
'There is no parking outside the house, but you can access the Brixham town car park for a reasonable overnight price. Alternatively you can drive past All Saints Church to Higher Manor Road or Vicarage Hill where we have always managed to find a space. The walk from there is no more than five minutes. You can stop outside Rose Cottage to unload or load but it's a narrow road in the Brixham conservation area with double yellow lines! Outside the Manor Pub you can sometimes find a space.
Perhaps we need to make that more clear on the listing, but as we state the cottage is located in the narrow streets of a conservation area. The joy of the cottage location is that you can walk into town to supermarkets, shops and restaurants, to the harbour or the nearest beach, without having to use your car.

Ideally placed near the harbour and a few doors away from a nice pub.
Lovely fishing town that is a good base to explore other resorts on Tor Bay. There are plenty of boat trips, steam trains and bus tours to go on. Dartmouth is a good place to visit on the steam train from Paignton or by ferry. There are some nice walks to Berry Head which has a really good cafe there or the other direction towards Churston and Broadsands. There was slight hiccup when we first got there because we were sent the wrong code, the patio area was overgrown and not an area that you would want sit, parking is also not easy which is free a couple of streets behind the cottage or you can use the pay & display car park but this would be expensive for a week. The pub nearby is really nice but doesn’t do food, there are plenty of places to eat at the harbour or if you want something a bit more special the Berry Head Hotel is nice. Plenty of amenities nearby shops, cafes etc. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Brixham.

About the host
Hosted by Sara Lewis
Our family cottage has been recently modernised and refurbished yet it retains the feel of the 1850 traditional fisherman's cottage it is. Brixham is a great place to bring kids and we enjoy family breaks and the proximity to Brixham harbour where you can buy fresh fish or eat at one of the many restaurants or just sit on the dock and watch the light change. We emigrated to New Zealand as children but returned home when we finished our education. We love the countryside, and that's what's brilliant about Brixham is that very quickly you can be in the lush Devon landscape. We love the seaside, and touring the English countryside.
Why they chose this property
Brixham is a friendly lively working fishing town. The cottage's proximity to the harbour, its fishing trawlers marina and boats bobbing in the harbour attracted our interest. You can buy freshly caught fish or dine in many of the local restaurants. Children will enjoy crabbing in the harbour. The South west coastal path and Berry Head (a site of special scientific interest) is within walking distance. Shoalstone beach is a short stroll away. Dartmouth is close, and a trip on the ferry is a wonderful way of accessing Slapton Sands and the rest of the Devon coastline. In Totnes you can ride on a paddle steamer up the River Dart. A boat trip to Torquay is £2.00 from the harbour. Dartmoor is accessible. There's something for everybody and that's why we chose Brixham
What makes this property unique
Rose Cottage retains the charm of the 1850 fisherman's home it once was, but is comfortable for six people and modern living. In a minute you can access supermarkets, marine chandlers, camera shop, a record shop 'The Cavern' in Bolton Street and the famous Mr Brown's linen shop. Brixham was recently described as the 'Naples' of Devon. It is charming with a fascinating history of pirates, smugglers, sailors and farmers. There is handy pub 'The Manor' a few doors down. Within twenty minutes you are in the country gazing at Tor Bay from the cliffs of Berry Head, walking on to Man Sands on the South West Coastal path. You have town, country and seaside all rolled into one locale. Wake to church bells, seagulls and the foghorns as the trawlers return with the catch of the day.
