Les Volets Bleus is a renovated former farm workers' cottage. There is a dining kitchen leading through to a large living room with patio door and window looking out to garden and fields beyond. There is also a downstairs shower room and toilet. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double and one twin. There is a spacious modern bathroom with corner bath and separate shower cubicle. We have a large enclosed garden looking out over fields and orchards. There is garden furniture for eating outside or simply relaxing, and there are three adult bikes available for guest use. From here you can explore all that this region has to offer. Lovely market towns, chateaux, rivers, lakes, walks, bike rides and so much more.

If you are into birds and wildlife, this is a fantastic gite. In the garden we saw woodpeckers, hoopoes, bats hedgehogs and stoats and many other garden birds, The gite was very comfortable and well equiped, and short drives to many places to visit,

This property is absolutely beautiful! Such a peaceful location. The house is well stocked with good quality items….. I’ve never stayed in such a well equipped kitchen. John, the host, was quick to respond to any queries I had no matter how small!! I can highly recommend this property for a quiet and peaceful get away from it all holiday!

Fantastic Place

Beautiful Gite well maintained, supplied with everything you need. Lovely quiet area, surrounded by countryside but not to far from many great towns and sites to visit. Really enjoyed british TV when you want to stay in and chill with a glass of wine. Really handy supermarket nearby, with good value wine and beer (and food!). Fantastic host really responsive to emails with any questions we had. Would highly recommend

Beautiful Gite

Les Volets Blues is a beautiful place to stay. The Gite is very comfortable and clean. It is well equipped and the garden is very peaceful, secluded and perfect for alfresco dining. A very nice hamper was very useful. We made use of the pushbikes for trips into the village. We managed to visit several Chateau’s which were less than an hours drive.

Lovely Character Cottage

Les Volets Bleu is well equipped and very comfortable for a relaxing week. We really appreciated the log fire in the evenings especially when it was wet and windy outside. It is ideally located for exploring the region which is very picturesque and there are some lovely walks in the woods at the end of the lane. Amongst the many places we visited, we really enjoyed a visit to the "Chateau de Villandry" with it's amazing gardens and found the "Musee de Champignons" at Saumur very interesting as was "Les Pommes Tappees" at Turquant. Communication with John was excellent.

This was our third stay at this Gite. We find the Gite very clean cosy and relaxing. It is a great base to visit the many markets, you could go to a different one every day. They have great food and wine of course. There are many chateaux to visit, they all have fascinating history. Brilliant 2 week stay.

Beautiful rural farm house to truly experience the French way of life

This was our first visit to France and also using HomeAway. This property is beautiful both inside and out with everything you will need for a perfect get away. The owner John King was so helpful and supportive and answered any questions within a couple of hours. The farm house is right in the rural countryside and so peaceful and quiet. It was a good base for exploring the local Chateaux's and vineyards, you are spoilt for choice. As an example Amboise and Chenoncheau are an hour away (note local road speed limits are lower and slower than UK) and Saumur is only 25 minutes. Vernoil-le-Fourrier and Vernantes have local amenities with a Super U or slightly further afield, there are hypermarkets in Bourgeuil and Saumur. A must do is get local produce from the daily farmers markets in the area and top up from the supermarkets. Due to the properties location and not wanting to fall foul of French drink driving laws, we tended to eat out at lunch while exploring and eat at the farm house for dinner. There was a fully stocked kitchen and a BBQ for cooking and eating Al fresco. When eating out, most restaurants open from 12:30pm until 3pm then close and reopen at 7pm. All day eating is not the French way. There are numerous vineyards where the owners are only to pleased to give you a guided tour and tasting. Recommend Langlois Chateaux and Veuve Amiot in Saumur but you need to book tours and tasting for the best experience. The weather was in the 30+ Deg C for the entire duration of the stay and the hottest its been for 10 years. The farm house down stairs was cool during the day but as the bedrooms were upstairs, were lot warmer but not unbearable with fans provided. The property has a modern bathroom (corner bath, shower, toilet) adjoining the bed rooms up stairs with a further shower room and toilet downstairs. The property has adjacent barns for storage of the outdoor furniture and a covered area for parking the car. We will be definitely returning again in the future.

In a lovely countryside position for exploring the Loire valley. Very well equipped and everything you could possibly need (except a toaster). Be aware there is no dishwasher, but that was not a problem for us. Nice big living room and kitchen, as well as a roomy modern bathroom. A safe garden for children. Within cycling distance of a village with a few shops and super U supermarket. If you are there in warm weather the bedrooms do get rather hot. We found the beds a bit firm but they may suit other people. We had a lovely holiday and enjoyed hot weather and marvellous sunsets. Sitting in the peaceful garden in the evenings was delightful. Lots to visit in the area, chateaux, cave dwellings, and vinyards.

In june 2017, we stayed for 14 days in this delightful cottage and we had a wonderfull time there; - very complete and tastefully decorated, everything has been thought of - good beds - rural and very quiet location. you cannot believe how peaceful this cottage is situated. - centrally located and within a 45 minutes drive you can visit all the larger cities such as, Chinon, Saumur, Anger or Tours, but there are many other places/sights to visit. - in the village (5 minutes ride) there is a large Super U supermarket which is very convenient By all means a perfect place to relax and rewind!! Second stay at this fantastic Gite. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. Chateaux, markets are a lot of fun. Great cafes to enjoy a coffee and soak up the French way of life. Scenery with the vineyards is amazing. Everyone was so friendly even though we were not great with the French language. Would highly recommend Les Volets Bleus.

A haven of peace and quiet.

What can I say! After 45 yrs. of staying in gites and cottages in France and Britain, Les Volets Blue has to be the best yet. We wanted for nothing, the cottage is so well equipped that when we book next time we shall stay for longer. It was also very handy having the "Super U" just outside Vernoil and that was very comprehensive too. The cottage was clean and tidy, but most of all very quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed walking around the area in the evening when it was a little cooler. We went to so many lovely places in the Loire and will have many happy memories. Hope to visit again next year.

Totally Chilled

The house was situated in a rural and remote position, just as we wanted. Everything in the house was of good quality and we didn't want for anything in terms of kitchen equipment and comfort. There were lots of places to visit within a comfortable drive. Of particular note was the Parc du Rille (about 15 mins. drive) which is a superb picnic site with a live steam railway, all along the lake. Also the market in Chinon and the chateau Chenonceau. All in all an excellent relaxing break and we would certainly recommend this location to other holidaymakers. If we visit this area again, we would love to book this place.

Quiet secluded property, ideal retreat to rural French life

Cottage is located a little off the beaten track but in easy drive of Loire tourist spots. Property was basic, clean and tidy. Bikes useful for trip to the Boulangerie each morning, or the Super U in the village. Plenty or other cycling routes nearby but very hot the week were there so didn't take great advantage of that. BBQ basic but effective for al fresco evening meals, cottage stayed usefully cool when outside temperature was 30C+. Lack of internet may frustrate some, delight others. Bedroom arrangement upstairs means would suit families or good friends... You have to cross the main bedroom to reach bedroom two, and again from bedroom two to the bathroom. If you are looking for a quiet time in rural France this is ideal.

Les Violets Bleus - A very pretty property in an excellent location with great facilities

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Les Violets Bleus. We have holidayed in France in various regions for the last five years and this property has provided the most tranquil experience and the best facilities we have found to date. It was very clean, comfortable and thoughtfully laid out and the owner very helpful and supportive . We visited the market in nearby Montsoreau and in Richelieu to the south. Chinon, Chenonceau and Angers provided the historical attractions of this part of the region on this visit. The great facilities in the kitchen provided the means to produce some wonderful meals from the local produce we bought at the markets. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone and would very much look forward to a return visit at some point in the future.
