North Country Vacation Home On Lake Ada Without The Congestion Of Resorts
About Steve Johnson
Steve and Nancy are happy you found us and our lake home. We are a large family with nine children and 4 grandchildren. We all have fond memories of our lake home and we hope that you will too. Our families history of Lake Ada goes back to 1960 when Nancy's father purchased land on Lake Ada and built the families first lake home. To date, eight other family members have purchased properties on Lake Ada so we are well rooted in the Lake Ada community.
Why Steve Johnson chose Pine River
Our Lake home is idea for married couples or families that want to experience lake living at it's best. Only three hours from the Twin Cities, it's the perfect family vacation drive. Lake Ada is located between the Whitefish Chain and Leech Lake in Walker. Lake Ada offers excellent boating, skiing, tubing and fishing. Since Lake Ada isn't one of the large "resort" lakes, you have more privacy and more opportunities to enjoy the waters. Lake Ada is also an excellent fishing lake. Again, our niche is married couples and families. We are not interested renting to groups that are focused on parties so please don't request if that is what your interests are.
What makes this House unique
Our Lake home is a year-round home with two bedrooms on the main level and one in the lower level. We have recently remodeled the home raising the roof line adding large vaulted ceilings and more windows. Rather than vacationing at a resort, you have the privacy of your own home with all appliances including washer and dryer. We have a gas grill on the deck along with a 40" TV in lower family room. We do not have cable TV but we do have a DVD player for late night movies.

2nd year here
This is our 2nd year staying at the beautiful place on Lake Ada. Last year we stayed in July, this year because of work schedules, we ended up coming in August this year. The lake was just as beautiful and clear as it was in July. The house is so well maintained and beautiful! We stayed here with our daughter and her husband and their 4 children (5 & under) and our son and his girlfriend. The house is set up perfectly that our daughter and her family could take the whole downstairs. Our granddaughters were so excited that they could sleep in the bunk beds downstairs. The weather was not ideal (never got above 75 and windy), but we did have a few days when the wind switched directions and it was calm in front of the cabin. We caught enough fish for 3 nights of fish. Our eldest granddaughter (5 years old) caught a really nice crappie that she was so proud of (we threw it back in the lake for others to catch). I think we counted about 4 sets of loons and 2 sets of Bald Eagles. Overall our stay was absolutely wonderful and relaxing! Would for surely stay here again!!
Awesome location for a family vacation
This is our second year staying here we loved it. Steve is very easy to interact with and is very responsive. As I stated last year, if we’re able to come back to Lake Ada, we will be staying here again.
Wonderful family getaway
This cabin fit our needs just fine. There were two bedrooms upstairs with another bedroom downstairs, and lots of other horizontal space for sleeping. We were 8 adults with 2 small kids and a large dog.
The beds (tried the 2 beds upstairs) were very comfy. Loved their new couches and kitchen table set. There were ample towels for bathing. The only items I would recommend to the owner to consider obtaining is some cleaning rags ( Yes I know you aren’t supposed to clean on vacay), and another set of dishes. Had to do dishes way more often than would have liked😉. The owner of this property is very reachable and also very nice! One more thing- this lake rocks for little people. I have an 18 month and a 3 yr old and they could enjoy the lake, as it is shallow until the end of the dock. The lake is also very clear, with no zebra mussels. The lake is a wonderful sandy bottom (no muck). We caught bass, northern, perch, sunnies, but no walleye😬. We had a great week! Spot on for beautiful Minnesota lake country! Saw lots of deer, eagles and loons, also!
although we didn’t have great weather we still enjoyed the beautiful water and sandy shoreline. Wow! The lake was great, fishing was decent and overall had a great time.
Loved the big dining room table. It was great for big family dinners and playing games.
Also, the owner was very responsive when we had any questions or concerns. It was much appreciated.
Wonderful Lake Ada stay
We really enjoyed our stay at this home. It is very comfortable, spacious, and has a great view! The neighbors we met were very friendly. The lake is wonderful! We even caught a few fish.
A wonderful week on Lake Ada
We had a great time, everything was as advertised. We look forward to visiting again in the future.
Best kept secret in the northern Minnesota Lakes area, just north of Pequot Lake off of 371. Nestled between the Brainerd Lakes area and Walker MN, you will enjoy excellent fishing, boating, tubing, biking, etc. without the congestion of the resorts.
