We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. Cabin was well taken care of. The views were great. Enjoyed the yard and dock and floating in the lake. Would definitely book again.
The perfect family getaway! The lake is beautiful, the home is in great condition, the kitchen is well stocked and the area is fantastic for quiet time with the kids away from the city.
We really enjoyed our stay at this nice home on Lake Ada. The house had everything we needed and the decor was warm and inviting. The Adirondack chairs on the deck and the great fire pit were relaxing, and all of us enjoyed the bench at the end of the dock!
This was our 2nd time staying at this cabin and it didn’t disappoint. Steve, the owner, is great to work with and does a great job communicating. The cabin is perfect for families.
The location is perfect, with boat rentals nearby as well.
Another great vacation!

No internet!!!! Dirty dishes, musty, humid basement, and window A/C units held together with ducktape. One room’s window wasn’t sealed so many bugs came in the first evening when reading in bed with the lamp on. Yuck! There are many stairs to get into the home and to the main level. Water and lake were wonderful- great fishing. I love Lake Ada, but would not choose this cabin. Not for us.

I am surprised that a guest at our lake home gave a 4 start rating but such a bitter and negative review. I am sorry that you feel this way. Especially, that you gave the review on Labor Day and your visit was over two months ago. Without being defensive, we advertise No Internet and I follow up with letters so you (and all guests) are well aware that we don't have internet. With well over 50 rentals in the past 10 years, this is the first time this was an issue. We only rent about 5 weeks out of the year and most people want to disconnect and enjoy the outdoors. Unfortunately, a negative person can not complain about one issue. You complained that there are two many levels and stairs? The home is a split entry (upper and lower). There are not extra stairs. Window ac units? Some cabins don't offer AC. Our cleaners are topnotch so I highly doubt there were dirty dishes. We have rented our cabin for 10 years and have over 50 positive (only) reviews, so again, I'm sorry you're feeling so bitter two months later on Labor Day. I am grateful that this is a one and done rental for you. I would search the elite resorts on Gull Lake and Pelican Lake. I'm sure they have Wi-Fi throughout the grounds. I also want you to know that I reviewed you as well and gave you 5 stars across the board. I didn't base it on your negativity; I based it on how you treated our property two months ago when you stayed. Have a blessed Fall, Steve
This was our 2nd time to the cabin. We had a family of 7 staying the week and it couldn’t have gone any better. Great house, great beach and this fishing was an added bonus.
We have a lake lot with travel trailers and rent this place for the overflow. We have stayed several times. Great place.
Owner should note there is a dying Popple tree leaning toward the house. Hate to see it blow down.
Great stay!!!
Coming to Lake Ada is our family’s vacation with this being our 7th trip and 5th at the Johnson’s cabin. We always enjoy it and hope to continue our yearly trips for as long as Steve and his family allow us to rent their place. It’s a great place for a family vacation where you want to enjoy the best lake in MN for a few days.

We enjoyed another trip to Lake Ada. This is our fourth time staying here and as long as Steve is willing to continue to share his place, we will be staying there. We appreciated using the new fire pit he recently had built as well. Thank you.
This is our 2nd year staying at the beautiful place on Lake Ada. Last year we stayed in July, this year because of work schedules, we ended up coming in August this year. The lake was just as beautiful and clear as it was in July. The house is so well maintained and beautiful! We stayed here with our daughter and her husband and their 4 children (5 & under) and our son and his girlfriend. The house is set up perfectly that our daughter and her family could take the whole downstairs. Our granddaughters were so excited that they could sleep in the bunk beds downstairs. The weather was not ideal (never got above 75 and windy), but we did have a few days when the wind switched directions and it was calm in front of the cabin. We caught enough fish for 3 nights of fish. Our eldest granddaughter (5 years old) caught a really nice crappie that she was so proud of (we threw it back in the lake for others to catch). I think we counted about 4 sets of loons and 2 sets of Bald Eagles. Overall our stay was absolutely wonderful and relaxing! Would for surely stay here again!!
This is our 3rd stay at this house. Not much has changed since my last review. Still such a beautiful lake and location (on a dead end gravel road). I would say the only thing that has changed is they have done some shore line work which is now rock, there is till lots of sand to have the kids play in (which was a huge hit for our grandchildren.) There are quite a few more cat tails on the shoreline, but still enough room for you to walk into the lake as there is not steps into the lake from the dock. The boat lift no longer has a canopy on it, so that was a bit of an obstacle when the rain came, but it's a boat and it is meant to get wet. There was plenty of towels, dishes and bedding. The basement was perfect for our daughter and her family. They have upgraded the deck furniture to have Adirondack chairs which were super comfortable! The only reason that I gave it a 4 this time instead of a 5 is because of the boat lift having no cover and the wood on the deck railings is rotting so the paint is peeling on the railings. The deck is perfectly safe and fine, just the railings need some attention. The boat lift cable did end up breaking when we were there, but the owners had someone out to fix it the next day! One other thing that we really enjoyed was the fact that the owner did inform us that we could check in early if we wanted to! It is a beautiful house on a beautiful lake! You can't get much better than Lake Ada! Sandy, clean and there are probably 3-4 sets of Loons that love to wake you in the morning! Would love to stay here again!!! Thanks for the great week!

Hi Kristine,
We have to keep the canopy off the boat lift in the event of storms. Just let us know that you are bringing a boat and we can have it installed. It's actually under the deck. Strong winds earlier in the season blew boat lifts out to the lake. Not all renters bring boats so we only install the canopy when we have to. Also, I scheduled deck and house painting last fall but the painter is backed up until next month so painting will be completed in September. We also scheduled a lot more landscaping including a large (new) firepit for the center of the yard. Have a great fall.

The property was lovely and perfect for our family- sand for the boys, lake and water clarity clean, space to play. The cabin was lovely- just the right size with plenty of sleeping space.
Steve had thorough instructions and everything was taken care of. Definitely recommend for family vacations!!
We had a relaxing weekend at the cabin. The beach and dock were perfect for the kids. The cabin was exceptional and accommodated our group of 7 perfectly.
My family of 4 really enjoyed our 5 night stay in this property— it was clean, quiet, and the view was awesome! We didn’t need to contact the owner at all during our stay, as everything was perfect. We did a lot of fishing off the dock and my boys (10 & 11yrs old) swam in the too-cold-for-me water. We loved sitting around the fire pit every night, roasting hot dogs and s’mores. It was the quiet getaway that we desperately needed.
We drove to Nisswa on Wednesday for the turtle races and loved that town, with all the cute shops and small restaurants. Rafferty’s pizza was great and the fancy steakhouse CHAR was fabulous!
We all agree that we would absolutely return to this property, if given the chance!
This is a great location for family to come and enjoy the peace and quiet of Lake Ada. This is our third time staying and Steve is always great to work with. If you’re looking to get away from the rat race for a few days, I highly recommend it staying here.

About the host
Hosted by Steve Johnson
Steve and Nancy are happy you found us and our lake home. We are a large family with nine children and 4 grandchildren. We all have fond memories of our lake home and we hope that you will too.
Our families history of Lake Ada goes back to 1960 when Nancy's father purchased land on Lake Ada and built the families first lake home. To date, eight other family members have purchased properties on Lake Ada so we are well rooted in the Lake Ada community.
Why they chose this property
Our Lake home is idea for married couples or families that want to experience lake living at it's best. Only three hours from the Twin Cities, it's the perfect family vacation drive. Lake Ada is located between the Whitefish Chain and Leech Lake in Walker. Lake Ada offers excellent boating, skiing, tubing and fishing. Since Lake Ada isn't one of the large "resort" lakes, you have more privacy and more opportunities to enjoy the waters. Lake Ada is also an excellent fishing lake. Again, our niche is married couples and families. We are not interested renting to groups that are focused on parties so please don't request if that is what your interests are.
What makes this property unique
Our Lake home is a year-round home with two bedrooms on the main level and one in the lower level. We have recently remodeled the home raising the roof line adding large vaulted ceilings and more windows.
Rather than vacationing at a resort, you have the privacy of your own home with all appliances including washer and dryer. We have a gas grill on the deck along with a 40" TV in lower family room. We do not have cable TV but we do have a DVD player for late night movies.
