Quiet Lake Cottage Just Like in Grandparent's Day
An out of the way cottage on a small lake in northwest Connecticut, this place is a retreat from hustle and a return to the simple life. The house is rustic with an outdoor shower and large fireplace, and a solid dock with chairs. A screened porch overlooks the lake from above. The house sleeps 10 with five private bedrooms and a bunkroom. There's a small well-equipped kitchen, and a collection of family games. No laundry, but a laundry line for wet bathing suits and towels. I thought we'd hike the surrounding woods, or canoe to a far shore. Cool rainy weather discouraged us, and the mosquitoes were ferocious on the trail. Apart from an excursion to the Mark Twain House in Hartford, we were content to hang out, read, play Taboo and swim in the lake. The week passed too quickly, everyone was sad to leave.

Great spot and lovely cottage.
Absolutely loved our vacation. Lots of room to spread out for our group of 9. Plenty of beds and bedrooms for privacy. We enjoyed the outdoor shower too! Lake was great for our kayakers, canoers and fishermen in their float tubes and flippers. The guys caught sunfish, blue gills, pickerel, small mouth and large mouth bass. Even caught some off the dock. My 39 yr old son caught over 60 fish during the week... Largest was 18". Our ages ranged from 14 to 70 and all had a good time. Will definitely consider vacationing here again.

What a wonderful place!
We stayed at the cottage for four nights. It was spotlessly clean and completely charming - exactly as pictured, only better. It’s hard to capture the throwback charm of the screened porch, and all the little touches that make it so authentic as a lakeside cottage. It is also very spacious and extremely well equipped. The dock was a great hangout spot, and the water was so clean and refreshing, the perfect temperature. We swam every day. Our communication with Ann was great. We highly recommend this cottage. Idyllic!
We gathered 8 family members here to celebrate my 70th birthday. This place was absolutely perfect. I was even greeted upon arrival with birthday balloons and a present of some maple syrup! We would wake up and sip our coffee on the screened in porch while gazing at the pond and listening to the birds. Then we spent the day hiking, canoeing, swimming, laughing, and catching up. We are fanatic snorkelers and bird watchers, and there was so much to see! There are several nice trails near the cottage and at least two state forests nearby - Tunxis and Granville. The pond had newts, turtles, fish, and waterlilies. Even in mid-June the water temperature was fine, and the bugs weren't at all bad. The cottage itself was very clean and comfortable and an easy drive from the Hartford Airport. There's a half bath at each end which made it easy to share with my daughter's in-laws, and even the few "city folk" with us enjoyed the novelty of the outdoor shower. I planned the menus before our stay and was happy to find the kitchen with the right equipment to make absolutely everything. Be sure to download Merlin for bird identification and Seek for plants before going and plan at least one trip to the fabulous Gran-Val Scoop for its homemade ice cream and petting zoo! I will be dreaming of this vacation for a long time.

Lake house with homey vibe
A quiet week at a lakeside community in a well cared-for late-40s cabin. Hiked, swam, canoed and played board games. We all ate a lot of fresh corn. For the kind of family that likes the quiet life this is perfect. For arts lovers, it’s no more than 45 mins drive from Jacob’s Pillow dance festival.

Our family spent our summers here and Pinehurst Lake hasn't changed much. This is our home for part of the year, and isn't your typical income-rental property. We ask that you treat it as carefully as you would your own home. We pride ourselves on keeping the house and property well-maintained. We will be updating the interior over the next few years adding an indoor shower, washer & dryer and remodeling the kitchen.

The Hartland Pond Association (HPC) was formed in 1929, and most cottages were completed in the 1940's. A thirty-five homes limit was set and still applies. The HPC owns 600 acres around the lake. The State of Connecticut acquired land around the lake and established a State Forest & Water District Property that will never be developed. Pinehurst lake is a slice of history tucked away in a heavily forested part of Connecticut that hasn't changed in seventy years.

Why they chose this property

We welcome you to our family lakefront summer cottage. We hope you'll enjoy your time here while relaxing in nature with your family and friends. And yes it is rustic! For your hiking pleasure there are well-marked walking trails around the lake and up into water district property.

The Hartland Pond Association (HPC) manages the Pinehurst Lake Community and keeps close tabs on rental guests. EXCESSIVE NOISE IS A PROBLEM for this very quiet HPC community. If you are looking for a place to party with a large group, listen to loud music, please do not apply. This is a low key nature retreat to unplug from the stress and noise of the hectic world.

What makes this property unique

Quiet lakefront, rustic, retreat environment (have we said it enough, lol)

We and our neighbors value this exceptionally peaceful and quiet retreat environment. We look for and rent to like minded guests. DO NOT APPLY to rent our cottage unless you plan on spending quiet time with your friends and family. Please keep your conversations and music at lower volumes. Sound carries clearly over the water in the lake basin. While it is important to respect our neighbors desire for peace and quiet we want our guests and children to have fun and enjoy the lake!
