The Shells - Superb villa with large pool

A truly magnificent detached villa set in the up market residential area of Santa Maria Estate in Mellieha, set on more than 1000m2 of land. This bright, airy and excellently laid out property enjoys fantastic views. Accommodation comprises on the ground floor a welcoming hall, open kitchen, dining and large sitting room, 3 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms whereof two ensuite.

A modern staircase leads up on to the first floor where one can find a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom leading onto a large surrounding terrace overlooking country and distant sea views over Comino and Gozo (the other two islands of Malta). At the back of the Villa one can find a large size pool with sun beds and jacuzzi and a hottub.

The villa is operated by mainly Solar Energy and WIFI is available.

The villa is located close to supermarkets and bus stop heading to Ghadira Bay (10min) and Paradise Bay (15min). The airport is Malta International Airport, 20km from the villa.

We felt that some features of the Villa were tired and of need of a refresh. It's situated in a lovely picturesque quiet area. We had a couple of lovely BBQs by the pool.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Shells. It is a beautiful spacious villa with stunning views at the front and private back garden with a fantastic pool and hot tub. The villa was clean and comfortable, with all the essentials in the kitchen. Communication with the host was excellent and we were made to feel at home. The villa is located less than 10 minutes walk from supermarkets and restaurants. We highly recommend staying at The Shells and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

The house lives up to the pictures and more. It’s super comfortable with nice design, very nice rooms and private bathrooms. The yard and pool and privacy are great. Good location and very nice at tentative hosts. AC works perfectly. We enjoyed everything about the house very much.

Perfect for a relaxing group holiday.

I booked the villa for a group of friends to use as a sort of base camp between activities. We enjoyed the villa so much we spent the whole Saturday there, enjoying the pool using the bbq. It was perfect. Thierry and Kevin were always on hand if we had any questions and the villa had everything we need.

Family holiday

Our second stay at Shells Villa as just as great this time. Host is friendly and communicated regularly to ensure everything was ok. Villa was spotless. Location excellent location for heading up and down the East coast. Walking distance to bars and restaurants in the main town and shirt drive to the beach. Thoughly recommended.

Beautiful villa

We had a great week. The villa is spacious and well equipped. There were some lovely touches eg lots of cleaning equipment, bin bags and a cupboard full of extras eg spices, cooking oil and a welcome pack. These are all things that we’ve had to purchase ourselves in other villa stays. The villa is easy to get to and close to main routes down both the east and west of the island.

Fabulous house. Amazing hosts

We stayed for 5 nights whilst visiting a music festival. The check in process was simple and made all the more enjoyable by meeting Kevin and his wife at the house on our arrival. Nothing was too much trouble. The house is fantastic and the photos do not do it justice. The pool is large and spacious and the hot tub perfect for relaxing in the evening. Each bedroom is beautifully decorated and they are very large! All in all it was a fabulous experience from start to finish.

Modern, spacious villa, perfect for our family group

This villa was ideal for our family consisting of parents, two adult sons and their girlfriends, and our teenage daughter. Plenty of living space indoors and outdoors and each room had its own bathroom. Outside, the pool was a welcome respite from the heat (there was a heatwave during our stay), and although there was a hot tub, we didn't use that - the water in the pool was warm anyway. Everything had been thought of, from dressing gowns and toiletries, to all the equipment you need in a kitchen. The hosts were wonderful, showing us around when we arrived and keeping in touch during our stay to check everything was ok. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend.

Potential to be very good

We recently stayed at this villa for our holiday. The property itself is a great size—very spacious and well laid out, making it ideal for a group of 8 people. It definitely has a lot of potential.However, we were disappointed by the overall experience due to poor maintenance and cleanliness. On arrival, it was clear that the villa hadn’t been properly cleaned. We encountered issues such as block drain, a dishwasher that didn’t work properly, and a noticeable ant problem throughout the house.I also made a few simple requests to make our stay more comfortable, but unfortunately, these were completely ignored from the host.For the premium price we paid, we expected a much higher standard of upkeep and guest service. It’s a shame, because with proper attention and care, this could have been an excellent stay.

Good times at the Shells

Had a lovely stay at the Villa with a group of 7 adults and a 2 year toddler. The property was a great setting for us to relax and unwind during our time in Malta. It's really spacious, with a large living room and kitchen area which was great for relaxing in during the heat of the day (especially with the toddler) if you didn't fancy relaxing by the pool. Which again is a great size, perfect for an early morning swim and also the steps on either side going into the pool were really useful for our 2 year old as it meant he could come into the pool and stand up. We spent a lot of time in the outside space either by the pool, enjoying a BBQ or spending time in the evening chatting and enjoying life around the large table. Plus there's an outdoor shower which a great novelty for us coming from the UK. All the bedrooms in the villa are a decent size (most are on the ground floor) and of course there is the huge master bedroom upstairs, which has an amazing view. The villa is a walkable distance to Mellieħa and a large supermarket, as we had a rental car it meant we could get around easily and not have to walk back with shopping. However I believe the Wellbee's supermarket offers a delivery service if needed. Our host Kevin was a top guy, he met us at check in and made sure we knew where everything was etc. It was a nice touch of him to message a few days into the stay to make sure we were settled in nicely. We'd be happy to come back again!
