Cindy Lou's Beachfront Penthouse - 15th Floor East Corner Condo in Island Royale
1. Beach/Gulf Front! Nothing separates you from the Gulf of Mexico other than a short walk on sugar white sand!
2. Balcony and Views! The private and spacious (311 square feet) penthouse balcony is on the 15th floor (the second from the top) and on the east corner of the building. The unobstructed views of the Gulf’s emerald green water and white sand beaches are to die for!! The sunrises and sunsets are will take your breath away! (Please view my photos!)
3. Location! The condo is located 0.8 miles from downtown Gulf Shores, making it an easy walk (along the street or beach) to restaurants like The Hangout, Bahama Bob’s and The Pink Pony Pub. Pier 33 (a small carryout/grocery store) is just across the street.
4. Beach! Our beach is huge, clean and sugar white! Unlike other larger condo complexes where guests crowd the beach, Island Royale is a smaller but newer building which allows for a comfortable beach population! Set up your beach camp and have plenty of room to play!
5. Condo Layout! My family friendly 3 bedroom, 3 bath condo sleeps 8 and has plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have their own space. Each bedroom has an attached bath for each guest’s privacy. There is a Smart TV in each bedroom and in the living room. The dining area seats 9. If you have an extended family and you need more space, check out my other unit that’s just 5 floors beneath this unit (VRBO 36703). It will sleep 8 people too, so that gives a total of 16 family and friends all located in the same building and on the same beach!!
6. Convenient Beach Gear Storage: No need to lug your beach gear for miles after your day in the sun. Unit P201 has a reserved parking space 15 feet from the entrance to the beach. Simply walk off the beach and drop your heavy beach gear in the back of your vehicle. Done! (Your second vehicle may park in any space not marked reserved.)
7. Clean! How many units have you had to clean when you arrived to begin your vacation? Not here!! My unit is cleaned by a wonderful cleaning company who treat my unit as if it were their own home. They do not cut corners, they clean ‘em!!
8. Updated! All three bathrooms were remodeled in 2019! The master bath now has a large walk-in shower with grab bars. There are new vanity cabinets, counter tops, mirrors and fixtures in each bath. The remodel was a big project but so worth it! New kitchen cabinets and a new water heater were installed in early 2019.
9. Extra Features! There is a fabulous indoor/outdoor swim through heated pool and indoor and outdoor hot tubs. A kiddie pool/splash pad was constructed in 2022. The Island Royale building has 4 outdoor charcoal grills, a fitness center, and sauna and steam room and upgraded Wi-Fi!
10. Owner Operated! I own my unit and I manage it. I do not use a hard to reach management company. You may call me 24/7 and I will either pick up my phone or return your call within minutes. If you have any issues, I will address them immediately!! Your vacation is very important to me and I want to make it the best ever! My goal, for my guests, is to have such a positive experience they want to make my condo and Gulf Shores part of their family tradition year after year!

Hi! My name is Cindy Winkeljohn (my friends call me Cindy Lou) and I (along with my husband) own Island Royale units 1001 and P201. I really enjoy managing our condos and I truly wish for all who spend their vacation there to have a great time and a good experience! I live in southern Virginia, but grew up on a hog/dairy farm in western Ohio with my 4 brothers and sisters, a horde of dogs, cats, chickens, pony, cows and pigs. I'm a retired physical therapist and my true love is spending time at the beach and managing these properties. I have twin boys and a daughter who are now grown, but every summer while they were growing up, we vacationed at the beaches along the Atlantic coast and the Gulf of Mexico. In 1996 we started vacationing in Gulf Shores and since our first visit, we never went anywhere else. When the real estate market corrected in 2008 and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill happened in 2010, it created the perfect opportunity for us to purchase in Gulf Shores and Island Royale. We purchased unit 1001 in 2012 and added P201 in 2016. We absolutely love the Island Royale property and love sharing it and all it has to offer with our guests.
Why they chose this property
When I was growing up and newly married, I lived in Ohio and Northern Virginia. We always went to the beach for vacation, so I’ve vacationed at Cape Cod, Long Beach Island, Virginia Beach, Emerald Isle, Oak Island, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head Island, Amelia Island, Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Cape San Blas. In 1996 we moved to Collierville, TN, and the closest beach was Gulf Shores, Alabama. I had never heard of the beach in L.A. (Lower Alabama), but was blown away by what I found. The beach was sugar white and the people were very relaxed and laid back. Gulf Shores has managed to stay a well kept secret that allows us to stay at a perfect beach that is not nearly as commercialized as any of the other beaches we visited. After we moved to Texas, Gulf Shores was still the best beach we had visited, so rather than go to the Texas beaches, we kept making the trip to Gulf Shores, and eventually purchased our first Island Royale property there in 2012.
What makes this property unique
The best feature of this property is the corner view! The wide open east end balcony offers a panoramic view of the Gulf of Mexico to the south and to the east. Most of your time at this property will be spent on the balcony. Another unique feature is the inclusion of a full bath in each of the three bedrooms. This really presents itself as three individual suites where you can get away from your group for some down time if desired. Each bedroom has a Smart TV. Finally, unlike many of the properties in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, I manage the properties I own...so this is truly a vacation rental by owner, and you will always work directly with me. The majority of properties are managed by BIG real estate companies that are hard to contact and add big fees to their total rental price.
