A short drive to downtown South Haven or nearby Saugatuck provides free public beaches, many restaurant cuisine options, shopping, antiques and the marina. Tons of berry picking and apple picking/orchards on local nearby farms, depending on season. Tons of local, unique stores and boutiques to explore. Antiquing all over. Visit Sherman's Dairy for the best ice cream. Downtown South Haven has plenty to see, our favorites restaurants include The Idler Riverboat Restaurant, Taste Restaurant (light bites/tapas), Captain Lou's Bar and Grill, and perusing the Farmers Market in spring/summer on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Be sure to check out Dutch Farm Market Grocery for local produce and goods (best donuts!), plus Crane's Pie Pantry and Restaurant in nearby Fennville, MI, good for big groups, home-cooking food, amazing pie, and more fun year-round (hayrides and corn maze in the Fall!)

Excellent Family Cottage!
We spent a week at Robert's Retreat in August and absolutely loved it! We've been to SW Michigan twelve consecutive years and have seen several cottages, and this one exceeded our expectations. The house is fully outfitted with virtually everything you might need! We have two kids, 11 and 14, that loved the proximity to the beach (of course) but also the giant neighborhood play area one block away that includes full court basketball and kickball or wiffleball field. There is also a kids-oriented playroom there that open most nights with games and activities, and a very new looking and huge playground for the littler kids (< 12 YO I'd guess). Its a short drive into either South Haven or Saugatuck with endless things to do and excellent restaurants. Owners were very easy to communicate with when we had questions.

Lovely home with everything you could possibly need.
Lovely home with every single amenity you could ask for. Great yard with fire pit, hammock, outside warm shower. We brought a lot of essentials with us, just in case, and didn't need to use any of them, everything you could ask for was supplied. Short walk to the tram to go down to the beach, where chairs are kept. Very happy with our choice.

Awesome family vacation in a beautiful location!
My family rented this property in July 2016. We had an absolutely amazing time. The house and yard are lovely. We invited our in-laws as well and with two full baths and three sleeping spaces available we had plenty of room. My kids LOVED having the playground and clubhouse right around the corner. The beach is just a short walk down the street. We visited it every day and the kids has a blast playing in the sand and waves. The outdoor shower with warm water is so convenient for washing off after the beach. We made the short drive into town on a few occasions to visit the shops, activities and restaurants. We would happily visit here again.

Host profile image
Linda and David are a creative team photographer and graphic designer entrepreneurs who have carefully designed the home for the ultimate escape in a tranquil residential subdivision hidden from city tourists.

Why they chose this property

This is a family oriented neighborhood. Not intended for youth parties, never allowed. This residential community of cottages date back to the 1920's when developers created the Mt Pleasant Lake Shore Subdivision. The area is secluded to the West of Blue Star Highway but close enough to all of the modern amenities of South Haven. Visit Sherman's Dairy Bar for the best ice cream ever! Ask for Blue Moon!

What makes this property unique

Once you arrive, you leave the fast pace of city life behind. City stress drains from your body the moment you set foot in nature and a country like atmosphere with dirt roads. You can choose from many available amenities nearby. Downtown So Haven and public pristine So Haven beaches are a short 10 min drive.
