About this property
A Beachfront Cottage for Two!
Welcome artists, nature lovers and those seeking solitude!
In the quaint fishing village of Jonesport Maine, there lies one of the only white sand beaches in Downeast Maine, Sandy River Beach. In this eclectic, somewhat primitive cottage, you can witness the most beautiful sunrises on one of the most eastern points of the United States, you can listen to the seagulls cry and the squeal of laughter on the beach. You can also enjoy the late afternoon summer sun as you enjoy your cocktail while your toes are in the sand. And you can fall asleep in the evening listening to the surf and feeling the rhythm of its heart.
The Sweet Pea cottage is a 1 bedroom, 3/4 bath oceanfront retreat. You will be as cozy as two peas in a pod!
Simple amenities include electric stove/oven and space heater, fridge, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, picnic table and WIFI. The bedroom has a queen size bed. Bathroom has shower stall...a longer shower proves you may have a very refreshing cool finish! There are a few board games to play and rocking chairs to read in.
The Sweet Pea is nestled between spruce trees and has its own beach access through the sweet peas and dune grass. The white sand greets you 20' feet from your door. Simple pleasures abound for the artist, the writer/reader or anyone who wants to escape the chaos of everyday life and enjoy the reflective and refreshing Downeast environment.
You may visit the local lobster wharfs for your dinner or visit Beals Island for your steamers and mussels. The sweet crabmeat is my favorite!
On days off the beach you may enjoy the Downeast Institute of Marine Biology, hike the trails of the Nature Conservancy of Great Wass Island, kayak to neighboring islands to observe bald eagles, loons and seals, and within an hour you can visit Bar Harbor or the most eastern point of the United States. You can even bring your fishing gear and golf clubs, catch a theatrical performance at the University of Maine in Machias or listen to visiting musicians perform in the Peabody Memorial Library.
Jonesport, America (the only Jonesport in America!) is a small fishing village which includes a grocery, two convenience stores/gas stations, two full service banks, multiple churches, medical center, gift shops, a take out and pizza shop, hardware, lumber yard, marina and campground.
Please come share the unique experience of beach living with us!
It is simple, quiet and simply beautiful!
July and August have 7 night minimum stays.
May, June, September have 3 night minimum stays.

Why they chose this property
This unique property has been in the family for three generations. We have three little Downeast beachfront cottages that were built around 1930; The Maine Rose, The Sweet Pea and the third, the Shanty where we stay. The cottages were renovated in the late 60's and were gently used by family for over 50 years. Solid construction, cathedral ceilings and eclectic decor adds character. The Sweet Pea cottage represents a simple life style on a beautiful white sandy beach. Come tickle your toes in the sand!
