Stunning home, convenient location, kitchen well stocked for family meals, large movie/book library, many games/puzzles. We hope to return again next season!
Rustic, spacious, and well-supplied. Internet is weak but we didn’t go on a vacation to bury our noses in our devices (that’s what I told my kids). Acadia and Bar Harbor are merely an hour away…..it’s good to have that separation from the maelstrom of people in those areas. Ellsworth is 30 minutes away and has all the amenities to resupply your clan. After being away all day seeing the sights, we looked forward to returning to this cabin.
Seeing as it was built so long ago, I expected a few more quirks and cobwebs than we found. This was definitely a good thing! The house is well taken care of, and a lovely place to stay. We enjoyed our time here very much.
The property was spacious, clean, beautiful & well-maintained with great amenities. Host communicated instantly to any inquiries. It is remote so need to plan ahead for food & other necessities. The only thing I would have liked was ability to recycle!

great even with problems
We enjoyed our stay, especially for the accomodations of the cottage.
The bedrooms and bathrooms were great. The Kitchen was functional especially with all the stuff that was available for cooking.
Problems: almost all the side chairs were coming apart. We would have fixed them ourselves if we had some glue.
Also, two of the skylights in the Living room leaked.
The cabin was at the end of the drive, quiet and peaceful, although there was some construction going on in nearby properties. The fireplace (wood burning stove) warmed up the room and made for a cozy evening. We enjoyed being "off the grid" so to speak after being out doing all the touristy attractions within 30 - 60 minute drives.
Requested to stay an extra day and knew we could stay an extra day at this cozy cotiage within hours of contacting the owner. Great location for an extraordinary nature 3xperience.
Great place to stay Mid-Coast Maine, close to Acadia. Ideal setting, nestled in the woods well above the lake and separate from the business of the lake's edge neighborhood. Lots of birds making their way through the forest on their southerly migration. Nice outdoor fireplace with plenty of seasoned, split wood. Dog enjoyed the cabin & open woods. And we did, indeed, hear the loons.
This 100 year old log home at the top of a hill was everything we expected. The pictures represent the actual home. Beds were comfortable. Even though the house was back in the woods, we found it easily. We stayed for a week. Ventured to Acadia Natl Park. Went whale watching. Bar Harbor crazy busy. Made use of the lobster pot available at the house - 3 times! Yum!
We loved staying at this property. It was secluded but not dark, out of the way but not remote, and a very comfortable place to spend our Bar Harbor / Acadia / Bangor vacation. As any property in this location, make sure you plan for dinner and breakfast timely as most food options (including a grocery store) are 30 min away and close earlier than a city. This cabin was perfect for that because all the cookware we needed was available at hand. Next time we vacation in the area, we would definitely stay at this property.
This cabin is amazing! We stayed there while visiting Acadia and it wasn't too far. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the dvd collection, the bathtubs and the balconies were all great. We wish we could've spent more time there. It's very private and secluded which is also nice. We saw some mice but that's understandable given that it's back in the woods. Would definitely recommend, and would go back with more friends!
Great Fall Vacation, wonderful experience in all ways.
If you are looking for a secluded getaway, this is for you. Wonderful, spacious and rustic with all the comforts of home. We used this cabin as our central location to our moose tour in Greenville and Bar Harbor / Acadia.adventures.
My family and I arrived to find a quaint country cabin nestled deep in the woods surrounding Phillips Lake. The cabin was well supplied with all you needed to make your stay enjoyable and stress free. All you need to do is supply the food. Oh, don't forget the ingredients for a winnie roast and s'mores when sitting around the fire pit.
I will caution this place is not handicap accessible or compliaint. So I don't recommend this place for anyone that requires assistance of anykind.
The hostess was always quick to respond to messaged questions and phone calls. She also provided written information on family friendly places to visit and do. Also, information on locations for food and other supplies.
Now for what I found to be off putting.
When entering the cabin, you are hit with a strong musty smell. This, I believe, is due to the dampness of the basement. This could be illuminated with properly waterproofing the basement walls. Also, the upholstered furniture should be replaced since it retains smells and it too has a musty snell.
I understand not being able to reach the high places in the cabin, but I was not pleased to see in reachable places the amount of dust and cobwebs. Espcially when told the cabin had been cleaned the day before our arriva
Would update cookware to easy to clean so not to chance improper cleaning of cast iron. Akso update to a newer stove/oven.
Other than those concerns, we would stay again!

Great stay. Easy in, easy out. Well equipped & furnished. Accommodating owner. Very comfortable interior with 360 contact with the mildly remote and very natural setting. Fire ring with plenty of seasoned wood an unexpected bonus. Perfect!
My husband and I (and two pups) stayed there a month, and it was just the nature retreat we needed! The location is perfect. The house needs a bit of care though. It was very cluttered, the basement was extremely mildewy, and it was disappointing that some of the double-glass window panes are compromised, obscuring the view. However, the grounds were absolutely beautiful and the loons at night were amazing. Such a treat!
Home is located in a very private quiet setting. It's an hour from Acadia NP. The house was not clean, lots of cob and spider webs, dust and cat or dog hair. Owner has been made aware of this. Overall, it was a peaceful stay. The firepit made for relaxing evenings outside.
This is truly a cabin in the woods - a 100+ year old cabin in a very private and wooded location. The property is about 150 yards from the nearest neighbor, and almost a half mile from any other houses. The private location made it a very nice place to stay, and the road in provided a nice 0.4 mile walk each way (but is a little steep).
The highlights for us were the comfortable porches and seating areas, and the well equipped kitchen. The porch provided a quiet area to take in the outdoors and the sound of all the birds. There was a small porch off the upstairs bedroom that was also nice. The kitchen had all the basics and ample choices for pots and pans - perfect for cooking your own meals. The one drawback was the lack of a dishwasher, but that would be hard to fit into the older cabin without major construction.
There was room for some minor updates in terms of maintenance. The grass needed trimming - not really mowing because there is no lawn on the wooded property. There were also a lot of cobwebs - but not unexpected in a cabin. Neither of these was a big deal and the property was clean and well maintained. Wifi worked well and the TV had access to plenty of streaming channels.
This location is a bit distant from Acadia - probably an hour and fifteen minutes from the park. But the benefit is you have no traffic and good access to stores. Jones Lobster was a good source for lobster and fresh fish. There is a large Walmart available for necessities.
This cabin offers a great secluded stay in the woods just up from Phillips Lake, leaving nothing more to be desired other than additional time to stay. The lake is just a short walk down the hill, there you can fish and kayak easily. The amenities in the cabin are ample with towels and everything needed to cook and clean. The host Lita was exceptional, providing instructions and things to do in the area. I hope to find myself back up in Maine in the future and stay again.
