Log Home In The Sequoia National Forest - Perfect safe zone
This 3,541 sq. ft. luxury log home is in the Sequoia National Forest and the Scenic Kern River. It has 4 bedrooms and a loft, 3 baths and a vanity, and accommodate up to 12-16 guests in beds. Can sleep more if needed. (See additional Rooms and Spaces notes) This is one of top homes in Kernville, California. It has also been voted the number one home in Riverkern by the local residence. We love Green and Green, and Frank Lloyd Right. This is our reflection of a great home that we would think Frank Lloyd Wright would be proud of. This lodge is in the Sequoia National Forest. If you have a problem with wild life, ants and spiders you may not want to stay in the forest. This place is very comfortable and reasonably priced to stay, and it sleeps the most people in the Kern River Valley. If your looking for a Trump Hotel with gold fixtures, this is not your place.
-------------------------------------PERFECT SAFE ZONE -------------------------------------------
If your looking for a place to away and be safe, this lodge is perfect from populations and up against the forest. All Surfaces are wiped down with beach and water, such as the floor, all door knobs, all surfaces, the bathroom, and bleach in laundry. We supply hand sanitizer, and plenty of toilet paper. It is the a perfect safe zone for your family to be safe. The best way to stay away from the flu is to go where the population is low and against the national forest by the river. It is the perfect get away. Staying in our lodge to get away from large cities is also a great vacation opportunity too.

8-29-22 Rachelle comments. Thanks for the comments Rachelle, 1. Lights down stairs not working. I am sorry about the lights. They are located behind the bar under the bar top with dimmers. I do mention this in the "Hello Letter" we send to folks when they schedule a reservation. We will try to make this more apparent to future guests that the sliders need to be in the up position for brightness. 2. We have gone out and got curtains for all the bedrooms and the bathrooms that needed curtains! Thanks for that input and we now have curtains in all the bedrooms and bathrooms for more privacy. 3. We advise maid service to pay attention to details in cleaning,, whip down cobwebs. The spots have been removed from the carpet.. The maid service has been advised. We are looking into new carpet right now. 4. I will remind Maid Service to make sure the previous folks left the cupboards, pot and pans and knives a re clean orderly. 5. We purchased all new bedding for the lodge!
9/26/2022 1. New carpet and padding have been installed in the living room and master bedroom.
10/14/2022 Replaced rails and felt on Pool table. We also go new billiard balls made of aramith for better performance.
10/21/2022 1. Purchased new Stove. Our new stove has an oven and and option for the oven to be an Air Fryer.
We always look at our reviews to advise us on what we can do to make the lodge and the experience better. Thanks for your comments Rachelle in making Riverkern Lodge a better place to stay!
7/12/25 Purchased all new bedding and new beds for the new bedroom in the basement.
8-25-25 Gloria made a few complaints. The lights to the back porch do work. There is a light switch in the master bedroom and at the back door of the dinning room. We have a swamp cooler and the temps in the house is in the 70's. If you like your place in the 60's you may want to go somewhere else. All the bedding is new... I bought more pool sticks for playing pool with. Please refrain from smashing my pool sticks because you missed a shot.
My knobs to the doors are upside down???? Wow.... I installed them and Gloria is the first person in 10 years to bring this up. I think they look great! I'm not changing them,
10-9-25 Replaced seating with new patio furniture on the back porch.

We had a fantastic stay! The house itself is spacious and fun, and you can really feel the love put into it—the fact that the owner built it himself shines through in all the wonderful personal touches. It’s a very quiet and relaxing spot, perfect for unwinding. What truly set this trip apart was [Owner's Name]. He was super communicative and went above and beyond to guide us. He gave us great recommendations for Kernville and even hooked me up with excellent fly fishing tips and connections. If you're looking for a unique place with a helpful host who knows the area inside out, book this place!
If your looking for a great cabin that provides everything you need. I definitely recommend this cabin. The cabin provides everything for a big group and we definitely enjoyed the gaming basement. We definitely are coming back here again when we vist Kern river
This is the 2nd time we've stayed at this HUGE beautiful log home. It is perfect for a large group!! I love the upgrades the owner has made with the new furniture, carpet, etc. The pictures really don't do it justice, you have to see it for yourself. The house is truly breathtaking! Thank you Joe for sharing your home with us!

I read your review and sent it to maide service. The lights to the back porch or in the master bedroom and in the dining room. They do work. I guess I can label them to help people know what the switches are. All the bedding gets washed after every stay so I don't know what to say about that. I didn't know the pool sticks wre broke. I will make sure to have maide service tell me so I can replace them. I installed all the door knobs. I thought they wre correctly installed. I appollogise for that. Your the 1st person in 10 years or ever to let me know i installed them the wrong way? I did purchase a blender. I guess one of my stays took it home with them. It was a really nice blender. Again. I will ask maide service to make sure appliances have not grown legs and walked out of the house. We do not have an ac. We have a swamp cooler. The house stays in the 70's unless the valley gets too much humidity in the air. But if you like your place in the 60's you may want to find another place. I will take care of all the rest of your concerns though. All the bedding does get washed after each stay. I'm not sure what we can do, maybe we can toss fabric softener into the wash or dryer.

Great place to stay for the price!
This large house was a great place for our family to spend Christmas. The great room with several couches was a wonderful place to gather and the host had put up a beautiful tall Christmas tree for us to enjoy. He was very accommodating and helpful during our stay. That being said I would not describe the place as luxurious. The dishwasher is nonfunctional and the place was not super clean. The basement is very poorly lit. However, overall we enjoyed our stay and it is a super good value.

Thank you for your review. I have fixed the dishwasher and have replaced the lights down stairs in the basement. I am also adding reading lamps into the bedroom for people that like to read as yourselves. This home has been rated the number one home in Riverkern by the local residents.
I have only had my lodge listed for a just over a year now. I am constantly doing upgrades and refinements trying to make this lodge the best that I can. And to make this lodge special to create fond memories for my guests. Prior to your stay I replaced my water heater with a top of the line tankless water heater.
As far as being clean. All our beds are fresh for our guests, extra bed sheets and linens are in the closet, extra clean towels are also in the closet, the bathrooms are scrubbed down, the carpets are vacuumed, the kitchen is cleaned, the refrigerator is cleaned, and the floors are always mopped prior to every stay.
Thank you, for staying in my lodge, Joe
This place was just great for our family! We need a large room with the kitchen included so we can cook and be all together. This had that! We need a separate area for people to play that is out of the way of all of the activity - and this had that! The 'indoor snowball fight' snowballs were so fun! We all got involved in the fights - adults and kids alike! I liked having several bathrooms so we didn't have problems with that. I liked all of the windows and the space! The Christmas decorations were so nice - and the 10 ft Christmas tree! So impressive and nicely decorated. Joe went above and beyond the call of duty getting it ready for our family and I really appreciate it. Family members say 'it was good!', 'I like the atmosphere!', 'It was clean and well heated'. The kids had plenty of room to play and still be with us - or to go downstairs and play there. We could walk to Bubbles Beach from there or to the Curve or, if it were open, the small store/cafe. Very, very nice place!

Kernville Cabin
**Review of Cabin in Kernville: Disappointing Stay Due to Unfinished Conditions and Health Concerns**
While the cabin itself had potential and seemed nice at first glance, the experience was far from satisfactory. The property was unfinished, with lots of visible construction, making the whole setup feel messy and unorganized. To make matters worse, there were ants everywhere, and the kitchen's pots and pans were so old that the non-stick coating was chipping off along with a dishwasher that only had a door and no actual dishwasher. Only some of the overhead fans in the house worked. Some of the switches were intermittently faulty
The biggest issue, however, was the temperature. It was a stifling 93°F inside the cabin, both day and night. Despite the guest booklet mentioning a swamp cooler, there wasn’t one on the property, and the air conditioning simply didn’t work. The cabin was not advertised as lacking air conditioning, which made the situation even more frustrating.
I tried contacting the host via phone, text, and the messaging app but received no response whatsoever. Due to the extreme heat and the inability to resolve the issue, we had to leave the property a day early for health and safety reasons.
Currently, Vrbo has not been very helpful in addressing or resolving this issue. This stay was a major disappointment, and I hope others have a better experience, but I can’t recommend this cabin in its current condition.
My family and I wanted to spend a good time together and away from home. The house was perfect. We enjoyed our stay.

Wanted to give 5 stars
First off, I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. Joe was so friendly and flexible, responding to communication within a few days. I know places in Kernville are limited, so we are thankful this house could accommodate our family. The fridge and 4 bathrooms were a huge plus, and the wifi worked great. The game room was good for the kids, although rough and a bit creepy. The pinball machine was also broken.
It was just an okay stay, and addressing the following issues could’ve made it truly amazing:
-Fixing the several lights that were out downstairs. At night almost the entire living room was in the dark. Some of the electrical outlets didn’t work.
-Placing window coverings over the windows. The bathrooms and bedrooms had no window coverings. Lack of Privacy and light were invasive
-Needed a thorough cleaning. It was surface ‘cleaned’ but several things were dusty, dirty, and hadn’t been touched for a while. There are several large stains across the carpet.
-Spider webs and cob webs several places
-The air conditioner really didn’t reach any of the upstairs. The house was muggy and the upstairs rooms were uncomfortably warm. On a 102 degree day, 79 degrees and humid inside wasn’t pleasant.
-The beds, frames, sheets, and couches are old, stained, and not very comfortable.
-The code to the private river access didn’t work, and it should be stated that it’s not very close to the house. We had older family members who could not walk to it.
-The stove wouldn’t light and we had to ask a neighbor for some matches to light it.
-The kitchen cupboards were disorganized and lacked a few basic necessities like a pair of scissors and a lighter. Almost every dish we used needed to be washed before we used it. Cutlery and pans were dirty.
Some of the issues may seem nitpicking, but at the price point we paid per night we were expecting more. I think with some tender love and care this place could really be amazing.
Everything was wonderful! The home had everything we needed to feel comfortable! Super spacious, clean, and welcoming. We loved playing pool in the basement and hanging out on the outside deck. Super convenient was the washer and dryer! Joe, the owner, was very accommodating and responded to questions promptly!! Highly recommend this Kernville lodge- in fact we’re headed back for New Year’s Eve!
