FIVE-STAR SOUTH DALTON RANCH VACATION HOME
Available Summer 2025 from September 1st-16th, with weekly discount.
Located in beautiful Dalton Ranch in Durango, Colorado, 362 Horse Thief Lane is a 2350 square foot home. Ideally located in the Animas Valley for a wide variety of year round adventures and uses, the house is single level, with three bedrooms, three baths, and is within a short 10 minute drive to downtown Durango, home to hundreds of great restaurants and shopping opportunities. In the opposite direction along highway 550 it is only 15 minutes to the base of the famous Purgatory ski resort. The 7th fairway for the Dalton Ranch semi-private championship golf course is right off the patio deck. Within walking distance, less than a half-mile away, is a gourmet market, a wine & spirits shop, and a True Value Hardware store. Our home is a bright, airy, open-floor plan that includes two bedrooms, each with en-suite full bathrooms, and an office with a futon and full bath. The house sleeps two couples or a family of five comfortably. The master suite includes a king bed, steam shower, large soaking tub, reading area and a full walk-in closet. The Southwest Room, has a queen bed, spacious double sink bathroom, and large cedar paneled closet. The Office has book-lined walls, desk, and a queen futon. The living room area has a gas fireplace, large screen television with Direct TV, entertainment center, DVD player, and deep leather couches for relaxation and entertaining. The vaulted ceiling and the glass and heavy beam trusses frame the magnificent view, which includes a passing glimpse of the classic steam engine train that travels to Silverton each day during the season. You cannot hear this iconic steam whistle echoing our wild west’s past without drawing a smile. Terraced patios run down the backyard to the fairway’s edge and small pond that is likely full of transient geese, ducks, and occasional strolling deer insuring both privacy and open space living at its very best. Our home comes with a thoroughly modern kitchen sporting all the latest amenities including, stainless steel gas oven and stovetop burners with a large grilling plate, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, wine cooler, and ice machine with Bosch, Kenmore Elite, Viking, and Kitchen Aid appliances throughout.
A very nice and bright formal dining room table seats 10 and offers an elegant dining area. A smaller breakfast/lunch table for four right off the kitchen, with a glass alcove facing the deck and the red rim cliffs across the valley, makes less formal meals a cinch. The open and spacious kitchen area is rimmed with high-backed stools and marble countertops ideal for informal communal meal preparations. Plenty of cabinet space and cooking/dining/table equipment is ready at hand for the most discriminating chef to prepare and host a successful dinner party.
With extras including a Kitchen Aid gas grill, outdoor wooden dining table and benches, plus casual deck dining/entertaining/lounging chairs with small end tables for cocktail hour on the large patio, a laundry area with washer and dryer, and a two car garage with plenty of additional off road parking on the extended driveway pad you will have everything you need to enjoy the Western Slope Lifestyle and the region’s pleasant, temperate weather, including three hundred sunny days each year. Durango was recently named by The Wall Street Journal as one of the five best small communities in America noting the “quality of the entire living experience.”
As fellow travelers we do not like to leave our dog at home so we understand the feelings of responsible pet owners and are very pet friendly. Let us know your pet related needs.
Dalton Ranch Golf Club, a 7,040-yard championship course, has a beautiful new clubhouse with restaurant, sports bar & pro shop, and also offers a year round fitness center (trainers and massage therapist on site), and seasonal outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Just beyond the golf course is the Durango Hot Springs Resort offering therapy pools, a pool, and massage services. The world-renowned trout habitat, the Animas River of the San Juan Mountains, runs through Dalton Ranch and offers gold medal fly-fishing waters just minutes from your doorstep. The San Juan National Forest offers dozens of hiking and biking trails ranging from easy to wildly exciting within a short drive to the trailheads.

We enjoyed our stay in Durango at this house. Was very well kept and clean. Furnished beautifully and the view of the mountains and golf course were spectacular. We would definitely recommend to anyone heading to the Durango area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Dalton Ranch vacation home. Pristine clean in a lovely setting on the golf course. We enjoyed walking the neighborhood, lunching at the club house and just enjoying the home. If you like chuckwagon dinners, the Bar D is just around the corner. Great show and good food. I would highly recommend this home.
Beautiful property! Did not feel like a rental, felt like we were staying at a friend’s house. Very comfortable. Walkable neighborhood and very dog friendly. Best part of house is back patio overlooking golf course. Spent a lot of family time enjoying the evenings out there. Hope to be back!
My family had a very nice stay the home that we retained at the Dalton Ranch location. It was exactly as described and more than exceeded our expectations. Beautiful home and location.
This is one of the nicest VRBO properties that I have rented. The property is beautiful with all the extras anyone would need. Within 10 minute drive to Durango and located in a great neighborhood. We will definitely return to Durango and hope we are able to stay at this great home again. You cannot go wrong with this property.
The home was beautiful in a very nice neighborhood. The road noise was loud if you were out on the patio, unfortunately. The homeowner was very nice and answered any questions we had prior to our stay.
My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home on the golf course. My mother-in-law couldn't get over all the serving plates and bowls, utensils, and everything for cooking that comes with this home. We spent a lot of time on the large back patio surrounded by trees, looking out on the little lake. We loved hearing the Durango/Silverton steam engine's whistle blow and could see it pass by.
Excellent comfortable house with everything you need either there or are very available a short distance from home. The 3 bedrooms each have their own private bathroom! Kitchen table was good for meals and playing cards and the dining room table was perfect for 6 of us at breakfast. Washer/dryer & BBQ grill was so nice to have. Nice view of golf course & perfectly located for everything we wanted to do. James Ranch and Eolus were perfect places to eat and the homemade ice cream downtown was really good and I’m an expert when it comes to ice cream!
We have vacationed in many VRBO and AIRB&B properties over the years, and this one ranks as one of the very, very best ever!!
This gorgeous and obviously well-loved home is exceptionally clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated with the owner’s impressive art collection. It’s also well-supplied with all the basics you might need—and then some.
The location, in a lovely and peaceful neighborhood, is convenient to everything the Durango area has to offer. As an added bonus, the famous narrow gauge train passes nearby several times a day, blowing its nostalgic whistle. My family and I just loved that.
Communication with the owners and caretaker was excellent in every way.
Honestly, I can’t recommend this property highly enough. We created wonderful family memories there and truly hope we can return someday.
If I could give this home 10 stars, I would. Everything was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. There is literally nothing negative to say about this home. The appointments are tasteful, comfortable and warm, almost familiar even if it is your first visit. The neighborhood and location are fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the back porch, halfway down the 7th fairway, positioned just across a beautiful pond with the rugged, red mountains just beyond taking in the site. Between the fairway and mountains, the Durango and Silverton narrow gauge steam trains would chug by a few times a day, providing a nostalgic view and sound as the whistles would blow. The home has everything you need and one of the most inviting treats is the steam shower in the master.
We will be back. Hopefully many times over.
This wonderful home is in a quiet neighborhood. It was very well equipped with everything we needed, and then some. Quality cookware, utensils, dishes, linens, etc. It was very clean, comfortable, and we felt like we were at home. The owner and property manager were very easy to work with. We will be back!
The house was clean, the property was well maintained and the owners were very communicative. They made the stay for our family wonderful and enjoyable.
The house is in great shape and has everything one should need for the stay. Well stocked with everything needed in the kitchen, which is sometimes lacking in other properties we have rented. The location is close to Animas River, Dalton Ranch Golf Club (an excellent track), great hiking and fishing. Not in the city, so it is quiet, but also an easy drive to shopping and dining. Dynamite owners who are very good to work with, and a manager who lives in the neighborhood. However, in the times we have spent in this house in the past few years, we have never encountered anything that required the help of the manager. It's all just ready to go when you get there. A very comfortable home for relaxing with wonderful opportunities for numberous activities.
We recently spent a week here and loved the house and
Location. The area is very pretty and very quiet. We enjoyed walking in the neighborhood too. The house is very well supplied, comfortable, and true to the listing. We found the neighborhood and all of Durango to be very friendly. Communication with the owner was very easy too. We would definitely stay here again if we were coming to this area.
We had such a great vacation. The house, property and neighborhood were even better than the pictures and other reviews stated. Short drive up to Purgatory and down to downtown Durango made this the perfect location for us. Owners were very friendly, house was super clean and very well furnished. Would love to stay every year!
My husband and kiddo, who is 11, stayed at Mary’s home and were so glad we did. The house is lovely and filled with some really fantastic books! The house was clean, and well stocked, especially with the small necessities like coffee filters, and spices etc. The house was also very quiet and we love the Dalton Ranch community. I would recommend this stay to anyone. Big or small families could make this place a great Landing pad for a fun trip! We are back in Durango every year band hope we get to stay at Mary’s home again.
We found the home very comfortable with nice view of the pond and golf course, the Durango - Silverton train and the surrounding mountains. Dalton Ranch was just beautiful this year. We always enjoy a visit and the house on Horse Thief was a very pleasant way to enjoy the area. The host was very helpful and the home was well stocked.
We had a great time! The house was in a great location for accessing everything in and around Durango. There was a grocery store within walking distance. The house was spacious and had more than enough room for a family of four. In addition, it had all the basic necessities for cooking, cleaning, etc. Loved it and recommend it for anyone looking for a great place to stay while visiting Durango.
This is a beautiful home in a great neighborhood. We loved our stay at Horsethief; it was the perfect basecamp for our family of four to explore all that the Durango area has to offer. It has AC, which is rare in the area, and we appreciated at the end of July. The house is super spacious, clean and well equipped. The beds are comfortable, the welcome package was great and so was the house manual. The neighbors (and seemingly all the locals) are very friendly. We couldn't ask for more!!!
This house is just as described on VRBO! It’s absolutely gorgeous inside and out! Beautiful neighborhood. Very quiet. Close to Durango and endless activities!

What makes this property unique
Our house is bordered by the 7th fairway and a sizable pond that is the vacationhome of wild geese, otters, and deer are constant visitors and the steam train whistle as it goes through Trimble Crossing is the perfect iconic western music for the post card scene.
