Our story has always been one of travel. Christopher met Sophie one dark distant night at Cairo Airport – Sophie, a relaxed outgoing backpacker from country Australia and Chris a businessman from London. We have always loved France (who doesn't!) and since being in the first language class in her little country high school, Sophie has always kept studying French. We are now settled with three kids in beautiful Kangaroo Valley (yes - truly!) in rural Australia where we own and manage Australian Tourism Award winning self-contained accommodation Crystal Creek Meadows - so we know a little about what makes a really great holiday experience. Chris has just finished his PhD and is a cutting-edge expert in sustainability in hospitality - helping the industry and travelers worldwide reduce their resource use and footprint, whilst still providing guest's with an excellent stay. We are passionate about guests enjoying a well deserved holiday while retaining the culture and heritage of the area.

Why they chose this property
We first visited Sarlat in 1995 - just for one magical night while staying in another French department. Sophie had always remembered the incredible evening light and soft whispers that embrace the old city. In 2015, with both a close friend and Chris' brother losing their battle with cancer, we decided life was too short not to embrace our dreams - and so Sophie traveled throughout France on a house hunt. After 3 weeks she drove one cold February night into the town of Sarlat and was lifted back in time to 1995 and engulfed by the absolute beauty of the town, the warmth of the people and the uniqueness of the buildings. This is a beautiful apartment, in a beautiful square in the most beautiful village in the most beautiful part of France. Years later our daughter was looking through old photo albums, and came across a forgotten picture of Sophie standing beside our apartment all those years ago - it was meant to be.
What makes this property unique
We adore coming to our apartment as it truly is the Heart of Sarlat - at our front door is the fountain where the monks first found the streams on which to build the town, from our kitchen window you can watch the markets being set up twice a week, a few footsteps away are fabulous cafes, bakeries, restaurants and shops. Winding around all of this are those amazing unchanged medieval lane ways and alleys. We love visiting the incredible natural attractions nearby, and the amazing villages along the Dordogne. The history is intact, the atmosphere is magical, the nature is stunning, the food is gorgeous, the wine is world-famous, the people are welcoming. And all of this is a truly beautiful apartment. We hope you have a wonderful stay in Heart of Sarlat.
