Lovely Villa

Spent 10 days in wonderful Madeira. The villa was ideal, good situation and easy access to the levadas. The shop/bar/restaurant opposite the villa was perfect for daily bread and the owner did take away meals, which were very welcome after a long day walking the levadas. Owners very helpful and always available if we needed them.

Very nice holiday residence

We found the description of the residence to be very accurate. It's a nice house with plenty of room for 4 people (although we were just the two of us). The house was clean and everything needed was there. Also, the garden and balconies make for a nice view. It is located a bit further from the more crowded places, which is exactly why we chose this location. We do recommend getting a (rental) car, since you'll probably need to do a lot of travelling if you want to see more of the island.

Calm and caring owner

Our checking at a late hour was completely managed by Sarah which was a very pleasant start for our stay. The house is located in a calm neighborhood and is fully equipped. We lack of nothing from outdoor furnitures to spices to cook. Sarah is very thoughtful regarding her guests as she is always reachable by phone for quick tips about where to eat or where to hike. It was a pleasure to stay there, explore the area and meeting her and her husband Ciaran.

Lovely comfortable home with great views

Villa Murphy was a great choice for us. We loved the neighborhood and although it was not a walk-friendly location (no sidewalks, narrow roads) we did a lot of exploring around. There are a few nice restaurants to walk to if you don't mind climbing back up the hills. There isn't much to do in the immediate area but the town was charming and the people were very friendly. We had a rough start to our trip with a long flight delay (strong winds at Madeira airport cancelled many flights) but Sarah was very helpful in making sure we got there even though it was very late at night. We highly recommend Villa Murphy.

Loved it - sun, scenery and an amazing home

We absolutely loved our stay here. Every morning we went out onto the balcony and looked out over the ocean and, in the evening, watched the sun set. The kitchen is well-stocked with pots, pans and dishes, and there is a large fridge. The bed was very comfortable - not too hard or too soft - and we slept well every night. Not only did we eat on the balcony, but also used the patio at the bottom of the garden - again with beautiful views over the water. More than anything else, we couldn't get over how quiet the house and area are. Periodically, a rooster would crow, but there was no traffic noise or rowdy neighbours; it was just plain quiet. There is a friendly, local cafe across the street where food and drinks are very inexpensive (scabbard fish on a bun - 5 Euros; a small Coral beer - 1.20 Euros; freshly squeezed orange juice - 2.40 Euros, to give you an idea). We loved it so much, my wife and I are seriously thinking of coming back to Madeira and spending a couple of weeks (or more) just to enjoy the sun and scenery - and we would definitely come back to this rental property.

Wir hatten einen super Urlaub in der Villa Murphy. Es ist ein toller Ort zum verweilen, an dem man einfach die Ruhe und den weiten Blick auf den Atlantik genießen kann. Die Villa hat einen schönen Garten und zwei Terrassen, sodass man sich je nach Aktivität, Stimmung oder Sonnenstand in verschiedenen Außenbereichen aufhalten kann. Aber natürlich ist sie auch als Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge zum Meer oder in die Berge ist es ein perfekter Standort. Gleich auf der anderen Straßenseite befindet sich sogar ein kleines Restaurant mit Supermarkt, in dem man gut essen oder einfach kühle Getränke, Eis oder ein paar Lebensmittel kaufen kann. Die Vermieter sind sehr herzliche und hilfsbereite Menschen, die tolle Empfehlungen zur Insel geben können.Wir waren drei Wochen dort und haben uns jeden Tag gefreut auf Madeira zu sein und in diesem Ferienhaus zu wohnen. Wir werden sicher noch einmal nach Madeira reisen und dann auf jeden Fall wieder versuchen die Villa Murphy zu buchen!Thank you Sarah & Family!!!

Magnifique vue sur l'océan ! Le gîte est très confortable, idéalement situé, et très bien équipé, il ne manquait rien pour rendre notre séjour agréable. Das Haus ist gut ausgestattet, die Schlafzimmer sind schön, hell und geräumig. Der Garten und die Balkone sind hübsch gestaltet und vom oberen Balkon hat man einen sehr schönen Meerblick. Allerdings liegt das Haus ziemlich feucht und die Nachbarhäuser stehen dicht dran, was man auf den Bildern nicht sehen kann. Die Stufen, die zum Haus hinunterführen, sind etwas vermüllt. Da es sich hier wohl um einen öffentlichen Weg handelt, ist offenbar niemand zuständig.

Juste Parfait !

Cette maison est tout confort. On s'y sent comme chez soit. Elle est très bien équipée, tout est réuni pour passer un bon séjour. Mais surtout, une incroyable disponibilité et réactivité de Sara qui nous a donné de très nombreux conseils et informations tout au long de notre séjour et même une fois avoir quitté sa maison. Une perle ! Merci encore pour les oeufs et le lait à l'arrivée...... Quel dommage de ne pas avoir pu vous rencontrer, une prochaine fois ! 10 étoiles !

Ein sehr schöner Urlaub

Der Ort Estreito de Calheta hat uns sehr gut als Ausgangspunkt für verschiedene Ausflüge gefallen. Das Ferienhaus entspricht der Beschreibung, ist sehr gut ausgestattet und sehr sauber. Highlights sind u.a. die drei Terrassen und Balkone mit dem Wahnsinnsblick aufs Meer. Den Kritikpunkt eines anderen Schreibers, der bei Ilidios Restaurant gegenüber Lärmbelästigung oder nervenden Publikumsverkehr bemängelte, können wir absolut nicht bestätigen. Wir haben so gut wie nichts gehört. Das zeitweise Plätschern der beiden kleinen Minilevadas empfanden wir dagegen als angenehm. Sarah und Ciaran haben schon vor unserem Aufenthalt alles getan, damit unser Urlaubserlebnis unvergesslich bleibt. Diese beiden muss man einfach gerne haben.

Villa Murphy was a perfect base for our vacation at Madeira and we can absolutely recommend this place. The well equipped house has excellent outdoor spaces with balconies at both floors , a nice private garden area with flowers and trees, outdoor barbeque facilities, and excellent ocean view. It is located in a small, very quite community where you literally live next door to the local people, their cows and chickens as well as the calming sound from the local church bells. Just opposite the house there is a small supermarket including a restaurant/café where you can enjoy your coffee alongside the local people who stop here for a daily chat and grocery shopping. The “house wine” here is really good – and very cheap. Only one kilometer downhill from the house there is an other bigger and very good supermarket as well as a great supermarket in Calheta. Try their very tasty and fresch fish and chicken in Calheta. The house seems newly renovated and has everything you need for a holiday abroad. It was extremely clean and we felt very welcomed by the hosts who was helpful with driving instructions from the airport as well as ideas for hikes . In the house you find some walking sticks for two people to be borrowed for free. Be aware that the houses at Madeira are not centrally heated so bring warm indoor clothes if you travel during more humid/cooler seasons like we did. In the house there are some mobile electric radiators which helped keeping the rooms warm. We really enjoyed staying at this house and the very nice and calm surroundings.

Just What We Had Hoped For

We were two retired couples who stayed at Villa Murphy for 10 days in mid -February. The villa itself suited us prfectly with the two en suite bedrooms set apart and very private. Perhaps we were a little too early in the season to really enjoy the wonderful balconies especially for meals and the villa itself was difficult to keep warm. Nevertheless we were on the sunny side of Madeira so had many beautiful sunny days and lovely sunsets over the ocean.

très agréable villa - séjour formidable !

La villa correspond parfaitement à la description sur le site. La vue sur la mer est GRANDIOSE (bien mieux que ce que l'on voit sur les photos). Villa très propre, jardin très bien entretenu, environnement très calme. Les propriétaires nous ont renseigné dès que nécessaire. Ils se sont montrés vraiment disponibles et à l'écoute. La supérette et le restaurant à proximité de la maison sont très appréciables (propriétaire très sympa, pain frais tous les jours sans avoir besoin de prendre la voiture, seulement quelques mètres à pied et en plus ils restent ouverts très tard le soir). La situation de la villa fait qu'on est très proche de la grande plage de sable de Calheta .On peut également partir en excursions de tous les côtés de l'île car très bien desservi. Nous recommandons chaudement de louer cette villa. Le rapport qualité-prix est vraiment très bon (paroles de globe-trotters). Nous reviendrons ! Thank you again to Sarah and Ciaran. La vue sur mer est GRANDIOSE (on ne s'en rend pas compte sur le site, mais tant mieux qu'elle magnifique surprise quand on arrive !) La villa est très propre, le jardin très bien entretenu. L'environnement est calme et agréable, la supérette et le restaurant à proximité sont très bien : pain frais tous les jours à quelques mètres à pied ! Nice house, nice view

We had a very nice week in the Villa Murphy. Good size living room and bedrooms, and nice veranda with a good view of the sea. All very clean and well kept, and everything worked perfectly. No dishwasher but we didn't mind that. There is a little store opposite which we found very useful for basic stuff, including nice bread, whose owner (Llido) will also provide meals in the adjacent small bar/restaurant if you give him advance notice. Only two things offered (steak or fish), but the fish is highly recommended.

We live in the next village so are on hand should you need any help in finding your feet. We love madeira and know all the very best places to explore. Why they chose this property

We built Villa Murphy in 2006 - we designed the build ourselves having found lots of other villas for sale quite small and dark. We wanted to offer our guests open space and lots of light. We also wanted nice big balconies from the bedrooms and panoramic views of the ocean. The villa is a beautiful large building with lots of space throughout the property and never fails to impress our guests: hence our reviews.
The village location too is very typical of rural Madeira and is a great base to explore the surrounding nature. The people are very friendly and local bread, vegetable and fish vans still deliver in old Maderian style to your door.

What makes this property unique

The villa is a large, spacious, bright and airy property with wonderful ocean views. The balconies, bbq terrace and bottom garden patio provide even more space. You can enjoy breakfast on the top balcony, bbq your dinner on the bottom terrace and retire to the garden patio for an evening drink. Perfect. This property easily accommodates up to 4 adults but is also ideal for a couple who like their own bedroom and bathroom with plenty of space.
The location is ideal to get out and about and explore: all the best sites are only a short drive away starting with the marina and beach being a 5 minute drive to the famous rock pools of Porto Moniz only a 25 minute drive away.
This side of the Island is renowned for warmer weather and beautiful levada walks.
The villa is the perfect holiday accommodation: very well appointed and in a great location to explore.
