Cozy upscale apt museum mile AC: The perfect place to have a great stay, a beautiful apartment in the best area of Madrid. Our 5* reviews confirm that :)
We are renting this refurbished (Feb 2013), sunny, with lots of charm and super central apartment in a quiet semi pedestrian street of the magic and charming neighbourhood of Cortes. This is the perfect place if you are looking for a silent and cozy apartment to feel like home, walking distance to all the sights in Madrid: the museums, entertainment and parks... The Prado museum is just 3 minutes walk from the apartment.
The apartment is located in the third floor of a walk up building (so NO elevator, like most buildings in central Madrid)
The apartment and all the furniture and amenities are brand new and despite of it being in a vibrant neighbourhood, the street where it is located is very quiet and semi pedestrian (only residents and taxies are allowed, so there is no car’s noise) and very silent, so perfect for your night sleep after a whole day visiting Madrid.
It has:
* 1 Bedroom with a double bed (160 x 200cm/king size), a TV, a closet and a desk in case you need to work, check emails or continue planning your trip.
* 1 Sofa bed in the living room that can be turned into a super comfy double bed for 2 additional people.
* Kitchen fully equipped with anything you need to cook and eat, including the stove, microwave with grill, refrigerator, washing machine, kettle and toaster. There is no drier but there is a clothes horse that you can use..
* A living room with dining table for 4, sofa, radio and a 48 inches TV.
* A bathroom with shower.
* Wi-Fi is also available during your stay, how not ;)
* Baby cot available upon require, 15 euros extra.
Of cousre, fresh linen is provided, as well as iron, hairdryer, etc.
One set of hand towel and shower towel per person per stay up to 7 nights will be provided. If more are required, there will be a charge of 10 euros per set.
If you think there is something missing, we'll be happy to have your feedback in order to continue improving the apartment.
No smoking in the apartment. In case of smoking, we will charge €100 as penalty.
Cortes is also known as el 'Barrio de las Letras,' literary Madrid. This is where Spain's most celebrated Golden Age authors - Miguel de Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca, Tirso de Molina - lived during the 17th century. Without hesitation we can say that this is the best and nicest neighbourhood in central Madrid. You’ll immediately note how elegant the neighbourhood is from an architectural standpoint. The streets radiating off its core, Plaza de Santa Ana, are packed with tapas bars and bars to hang out.
Every first Saturday of the month the Frog’s market takes place in the streets of Cortes. Retailers of the area (including designers, vintage clothes, furniture and more) participate in this monthly market.
The location of the apartment is perfect to visit Madrid without even having to use our good public transport network. Actually, within 15 minutes walking you can reach the main museums in town (Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Bornemisza), the Retiro Park, Gran Via and its neoclassic architecture, the Rastro and La Latina, etc. But in any case, the nearest metro stop (Antón Martín) is just 3 minutes away. Here you can catch Line 1, that will take you to Atocha Renfe (your arrival point if you get to town by train or with the shuttle train/bus from the airport).
For sure, you won't have problems to move around from here.

Clean and comfortable with an excellent central location, close to museums and train station. We walked everywhere in the city. We would stay here again.
Location was fantastic. Place was great. As mentioned the first time checking in is a bit tricky but take it step by step and it works. Can’t think of better way to explain it. Would love to stay there again if we go back to Madrid. Everything so close.
We had a super stay in the apartment. It was clean, well equipped and had a very comfy bed. The location was perfect for access to the museums and tapas bars. Thank you for a great stay.
Perfect for 2-3 people. Cozy - but well appointed and lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Host communicated clearly and responded quickly. Quiet location. Would definitely recommend.

Hosts were very helpful. I would not describe the apartment as upscale; it is looking worn, walls and drapes were stained. The a/c doesn't work well and the fan on high speed is noisy. Unfortunately it is needed as the neighborhood is too noisy to sleep with open windows. At least a couple of coffee pods should be provided, there were none for our stay.
Nice location. After we discovered how the lock worked all was fine. Make sure you have no mobility problems. Third floor is actually fourth floor since there are no apartments on the ground. 60 steps up the stairs to your apartment. Nice restaurants nearby. Close to everything.
The apartment was perfect for our stay - clean and quiet. The owners were very accommodating and responsive to us. The apartment had everything we needed. The location was great - lots of good restaurants in the area and close to sites like the Prado, Retiro Park, the Museo Sophia and the train station.
Great neighborhood, in the heart of everything but quiet on the 4th level. Had some issues with the lock and stovetop, but I blame it on jet lag and confusing directions. Very responsive and accommodating hosts.
This apartment location could not more perfect to our taste, in a super charming and human scale neighborhood, close to everything Madrid has best to offer.
The apartment was very clean, well equipped, quiet and corresponded exactly to its description. The welcome process was warm, timely and with all the information we needed.
This property is exactly as pictured and described; well maintained and spotlessly clean. The location cannot be beat, walking distance to so many things. The local metro stop was under construction during our stay - no negative reflection on our host - but if it is important, know to check. The host was friendly, cheerful, and incredibly responsive throughout pur 10 day stay. Would definitely recommend.
We enjoyed the convenience of being so close to the Prado Museum & Rialto Park. The Plaza Mayor is a 15 minute walk as well up the Calle de Atocha. When entering the apartment you need to turn the knob counter clockwise (left). We had some trouble but Vanessa & Oscar helped us quickly. All in all we had a great stay! The bed was comfortable for 2 adults and we sleot well! Gracías Vanessa y Oscar!
Stayed 11 nights at the property. Convenient location to Prado and other museums, parks, food stores, Metro (which we didn’t use because we walked everywhere), restaurants and bars (2 doors away was a nice, friendly establishment). Bed comfortable, kitchen had what we needed, washing machine worked (drying rack provided). Had everything we needed (except for a lift - if you have bad knees this unit may not work as well for you - 4 flights). Felt safe. Julia met us at the unit and explained everything, We would book it again.

Great once we got in.
The property and location was great. It had everything you needed and was very clean. Be aware that there is NO elevator and it’s 4 flights up. It wasn’t a problem for us. The BIGGEST problem was getting into the apartment. I was supposed to authorize a deposit the day before arrival but the link that was sent to me was NOT an active link and the email address was extremely long so we couldn’t get it to work. It took an hour with talking to the contact person to get it straightened out. After a long day of traveling it was very frustrating because my and my husband’s phone batteries were running low. When the link was finally activated all worked fine. Because of this I’m not sure I’d be staying there Again.

Pricing Inconsitency
Once I began the booking of this flat, the price went up a lot without any explanation of added pricing fees. Then a cleaning fee was added (which I wasn't expecting).
The lock system was new for us and it did not go so smoothly for the first time. The "after hours" managment company was responsive and kind to show us how it works. Had we arrived by 6:00 pm, this would not have been an issue, but returning our rental car took two hours longer than anticipated.
Property mangement was responsive and efficient. We loved the location too.
The positives:
- The location is fantastic, we walked to everything and the neighborhood is very cute.
- The apartment is modern, clean and comfortable and pretty quiet
The negatives:
- I thought it was 1 bedroom, but it's more like a studio. There is a sliding door, where you can separate the bedroom from the kitchen area, but there's a window in the wall, which has no cover, so even when you slide the door closed, it's not a fully private separate room.
- They only left us one regular size towel per person. I usually use 2 towels after I shower (one to wrap my hair). When I asked for an additional towel, I was told it would be 10E each. No thanks. I could buy my own for less. I found this obnoxious.
- There were minor hiccups with the communication as messages would come from different people (about check in/out, deposit, etc.) and sometimes weren't consistent.
- The electronic lock (where you use a phone, not a physical key) is nice, but you must have your cellular data turned on to use it. I wasn't necessarily planning on having my phone on every day of our visit because it adds $10 per day to my phone bill, but I had to do it to be able to get into the apartment everyday. So, this adds to the nightly cost. There was no physical key option provided.
- Also, be aware that this apt is on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator. This wasn't a problem for us, especially as we were traveling light, but it wouldn't be fun to haul larger suitcases up that tight staircase.
