Terrific all around !

Keith was the best owner and super responsive to all of my questions. The house location on the river couldn’t have been better and was everything we had hoped it would be. We cannot wait to stay at the Riverhouse again!

A must stay!!!

This cabin is everything and more! The breathtaking views of mountains and river are stunning. The only thing that would have made it better is reserving fishing gear ahead of time. We got lost in the beauty of the property and land that we forgot!! This is a must stay!

Have stayed at the Riverhouse numerous times and it gets better everytime. If you are looking for a great place that’s clean, comfortable, quiet and on the river you can’t do better than the Riverhouse. Whatever your pleasure: read a book, fish, shop in a small town there is something for everyone. We had a great time doing all three.

Peaceful retreat

Absolutely amazing quiet vacation we needed. From Montana but did a staycation this year for our family summer vacation and will definitely book again. Went on the senic drive suggested by owner and seen the big horn sheep about 10miles up. Great communication with owner. It was nice our 14yr old could fish right in front of the deck while I sat and read my book.

Scenery, wildlife, hiking and fishing among others. Keith is a very responsive host and great source of information regarding anything about the area. We hope to be back again next year.

Feels like a movie

This place was awesome, we were in town for a destination wedding just down the street. It is drivable to nearly all Montana has to offer, the location is superb. Whether it was coffee or bourbon on the back patio, our group has rarely been at peace this much. The listing is 100% accurate, our only wish is that we didn't live so far from Montana!

Great property - wonderful location!

We arrived at Riverhouse to find an immaculate and well-kept home with all amenities provided. What a great place to relax on the porch and just watch the river flow by! Although the river was running a bit too high to fish - big snow and run-off year! - watching the birds in the trees along the river was a special treat! And there are lots of great places nearby to explore on foot or by car. The Riverhouse is a great property in a wonderful location....we'll be coming back again before long!

We enjoyed our week at river house. The property is indescribable. Solidarity and peace and quit was amazing we had the fishing spot on the entire rover. Our host was amazing they had a ton of landmarks and soggts naked out in a binder to help us fill some extra time. This was a wonderful experience and i would highly recommend this property and host!

Great Escape

We thoroughly enjoyed our week stay for annual Sister Trip away. Very relaxing atmosphere with the river right outside your door to lull away the hectic worries of life. Plenty of day trip adventures to explore the area also. House was clean, kitchen equipped for meal prep and lots of room to just sit and enjoy. Keith was great with communicating and would return again. Thank you for sharing your house with us.

all amenities and the river make this house a great placed to stay!

Our family of five relaxed at the Riverhouse in early June. Though the weather was less than desirable, the cozy house with a superb view of the river and hill/mountain made us feel like we were outside even when we weren't. We roasted smores on the fire pit, practiced fishing on the river, and took advantage of the stocked-with-staples kitchen and cooked meals at home. (We also had the best bbq ever at the recommended restaurant up the road.) The host, Keith, gave us all instructions needed and was very responsive to our questions. It was a great get-away!

Peace and Tranquility

This spot was perfect for my husband and I..the house was very clean and cozy. The river flowing by the deck was just perfect. The fishing was good as well. We fished right below the house and even adventured up river some. The mountains surrounding the rental are simply gorgeous.. a eagle flew up the river one evening while we were setting on the deck. A baby mule deer strolled through the yard one morning and the different birds are a joy to watch. Simply put: I give this rental 👍🏼👍🏼 Thank you Mr & Mrs Lee for sharing your beautiful place with us..

Lost Trails Ski Lodging

This house is great and the location is very convenient to the Lost Trails ski hill. A mixed group of 3 couples/old coworkers all shared this for 3days in Feb 2021. The view and activity from the family room is awesome - there is a flowing river directly out back. Every morning we woke up, we saw at least 5-10 elk grazing on the hillside and there is a spotting scope included on a tripod which we all used extensively. The kitchen is well equipped for a group or family of 8. The bedding is soft and comfortable, and home layout allows 3 private settings for friends of families. Only 15min from Lost Trails, even on a fresh 12in powder day with traffic. House Verizon JetPack is fast, but warning - AT&T does not have service at the house or in much of the area. Keith as owner is very attentive to details, offering ideas on the area, warm, and friendly. I recommend this house for all and will definitely come back, expecially with a fly fishing rod.

Total Tranquility on the East Fork

We fly fish. This house is right in the middle of outstanding access to great fishing. And that starts a few steps from the back porch to cast into the river! Rainbow, Cut Throat, Brown trout right on the property. It’s centrally located to fish East and West Fork, Upper Bitterroot, and various creeks. 20 minutes to the quaint Western town of Darby for groceries and good food. The wildlife watching in the area was exceptional. Doe and fawn in front yard every morning, beavers, elk, Big Horn Sheep, so many birds to watch from the deck. The house is set up for anything you could possibly need. Very clean and extremely comfortable. The owner was terrific helping with our fly fishing questions. We enjoyed the Knotty Nymph, Big Cat, and Little Blue Joint restaurants for dinner. We ordered a meat/cheese tray, breakfast pastries, and a dessert tray as well as their amazing breads from The Red Rooster Artisan Bakery in Hamilton to make our packed lunches every day. I can’t say enough good things about both their food and customer service. The People’s Food in Darby has really good fried chicken and deli selections for a picnic. We had a wonderful week. We highly recommend this property. It’s wonderful. Book it right now….

The home had everything we needed. The pictures on the VRBO site don't do it justice. It is beautiful inside & out, surrounded by mountains and the river off the deck. A rare find. Fishing was really fun. The small towns near were great. We appreciated they weren't super touristy and were quaint, friendly, and many places available for tasty food. We loved the history of the area too!

About the host

Hosted by Keith Lee

Host profile image
The picture here is of Keith and Patty snow shoeing at the Big Hole Battlefield - a forty minute drive from the house. They have snowshoes you can use for free at the Battlefield. Keith and Patty have two kids and two grandkids, who all love the Riverhouse. They love the water and live on a lake near Seattle.

Why they chose this property

When we started looking for a vacation house as a fly fishing base in Montana and the Realtor sent us information about the Riverhouse, I said, “O-MY-GOD Patty, you have to see.”

If you like to wade fish, it simply does not get better than this. Just step off the deck a toss a line.

It's location, on the East Fork of the Bitterroot with its great dry fly fishing... and its close proximity to a half dozen world class rivers and dozens of great creeks blew me away! Then we found out about Lost Trail Powder Mountain skiing 16 miles away - all of the great trails (if you're used to skiing the mega resorts with huge crowds you won't believe how much room you have to yourself). The history, right here on the Lewis and Clark and Nez Perce trial - the wildlife, right on the property, in the river, and across the river - a wonderful 'Real Montana Home Cooking' restaurant only 4 miles away - and all that the Bitterroot Valley and surrounding mountains have to offer... The minute we drove onto the grounds of The Riverhouse, Patty and I knew this was our second home.

When we bought the Riverhouse I expected to spend a lot of time fishing those other world class rivers and streams close by, but after fishing up and down the river right off the deck, I seldom go anywhere else. I’ve fished all of the famous rivers in Montana and scores of creeks, and it doesn’t get any better than up and down the river right here at the Riverhouse.

I was shocked at how good the fishing was and then I realized unless you own property it’s not easy to get on the river around The Riverhouse. Next best know someone who owns property, or rent our house, so it’s likely during your stay you will not see another angler.

What makes this property unique

Most guest tell us that spending time on the deck 18 inches from the riverbank with the Sapphire Mountains in the background is their favorite time at the Riverhouse. Their next favorite - taking in the same views from the second story or the cathedral windows of the house. Others like being just 16 miles from Lost Trail Powder Mountain and coming HOME after a day of skiing. Still others enjoy the dozens of hiking trials within a few minutes drive and then again others are in awe of the wildlife.
