About this property
MAISON BACCHUS - Medieval Family House
Beautiful renovation made with painstaking care to create a calm and comfortable atmosphere! From the moment you walk in you feel the sense of minimalism with attention to detail to bring the medieval times to life. The inside of the house always stays cool, even on the hottest summer days.
The stylish 165m2 medieval house is located near the banks of the river Orbieu in the beautiful medieval village Lagrasse, in Southern France.
The furnished property includes a private entrance, spacious & light living area, dining room table, fully equipped kitchen, full bathrooms with cabin showers and design marble handwash basins, a lovely private terrace ideal for enjoying a breakfast or relaxing and two bedrooms with luxurious beds with pillow top mattress and comfy pillows. The house can comfortably sleep 6. (Please bring your own beach towels)
I have also equipped the property with washing / drying machine, high-speed wifi, flat screen wall mounted TV, books, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, maps and guides to the local area and board games for fun and cosy nights.
Maison Bacchus is a family house with a special character intended to be rented primarily to families. It can also be shared between friends who are not looking for total privacy. This can be clearly seen in the photos: The house is laid out in such a way that there is a lot of sharing between the people living there.
If your main goal is to seek more privacy, then I think a hotel or motel with individual rooms would be most suitable.
I must also point out that Maison Bacchus is not the right house for elderly people with mobility problems, nor is it the right house for children under 4 years old. I think that in such cases another type of accommodation would certainly be more appropriate.
Next year, in 2025, there will be a table football and large chess pieces to play on the ground floor of the house.
Lagrasse is listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France and has a vibrant, bustling atmosphere, renowned for its artisan culture. Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, rosemary, thyme and cyprus trees, Lagrasse Is located in the heart of the Corbieres between Carcassonne and Narbonne and only 40 minute from the beaches of the Mediteranean and 3 hours away from Barcelona. It provides not only an ideal base to explore this rich and historic region - Over a dozen medieval fortresses and castles just 40 km nearby -/ but also acts as a destination in itself (One of the oldest Abbeys of France tracking back to the VIII century, first constructed in the times of emperor Charlemagne.)
Visitors can be swimming along the river in the evening sun and then within ten minutes enjoying one of the many local wines at a bar or a restaurant in the heart of the old village. Rarely a week goes past in the summer without a festival, a ‘brocante’, or a concert in the abbey.
The village has several excellent restaurants, offering traditional / contemporary menus, a pizzeria, a bakery, café/bar, delicatessen, tabac, post office, doctors, chemist, galleries and many ‘caves’ selling their own wine.
There are airports at Bezier and Carcasonne. We would recommend hiring a car from the airport, it is a 40 minute drive to Lagrasse from Carcasonne, and 1 hour from Bezier.

Why they chose this property
I was always interested in buying a property in the south of France. I am deeply passionate about french history and after reading some books on the Cathars I decided to make a trip to the Cathar country. I felt in love with Lagrasse since I visited the village of Lagrasse ("Lagrassa" means "fertile" in Occitan language) for the first time. After that I was eager to buy a property here as soon I had the opportunity. The Property named "Maison Bacchus" had a long term renovation. I gave it the name of the roman God of Wine (Bacchus / Dionisus for the Greeks) because the Wine producing region surrounding the village. The romans already produced a lot of wine in Occitania in times of the Roman Empire. Many caves in the region uses only eco friendly winemaking methods - Similar as those used in ancient times.
What makes this property unique
Lagrasse is a wonderful peaceful village where you can benefit from the relaxing life surrounded by nature. You can make walks in the fields and mountains. Make lovely bicycle trips, visiting vineyards and castles in the region. For me it is imperative to disconnect every now and then from the stress of the cities.
From the moment I saw "Maison Bacchus" I fell in love with it: The thick soundproof stoned walls, the arches, the size and the privacy of the property. It is located in the best area of the village, just a few steps to the Village Square and the Medieval bridge.
