Quaint farm house stay

The farm house was a great place for us to use during our visit to southeast Colorado. It was quiet, had amazing views of the sunrise and sunset, lots of wildlife to enjoy, filled with a large number of amenities, and close to nearby towns. We will definitely want to stay again. The only item for some guests to be aware of is there is an awesome clawfoot tub - perfect for the house, but for those with some balance or step height issues they would want to have help for stepping in and out.

Outdoor Adventure

The farm was just as I remembered growing up. A big adventure for the children we walked, the children rode bikes, played basketball. Enjoyed the cool mornings and evenings we are from Texas so you can understand no humidity. There were a few hot days inside and out. Barbara was a great host was available to answer any questions. We would definitely visit again.

Working Farmhouse near Manzanola, Colorado

This is one fantastic place to stay! The farmhouse was used for a couple decades to raise 4 kids who helped with the many different types of vegetables and fruits grown on the 200 acre farm. Alfalfa and Corn are mostly grown now. The owners are still taking care of the farmhouse and have made improvements such as an extremely space age modern bathroom and the kitchen is perfect. The other bathroom brings you back in time and works great! We loved the whole working farm experience which was extremely quite and serene.

Beautiful Country Location

This is a spacious farm house in a quiet setting among large shade trees. We loved watching and listening to the trains go by about a half mile away. The house is rustic and spacious, lots of room for family members to each have their own space. We were in the area for a family reunion and the house was perfect for our needs. Barb, the owner, was great to work with. We had a small issue and she personally came to the house immediately and took care of it to our satisfaction. Great customer service! Thank you!

Misleading

Overall, the house and property were ok. My main gripe is that the listing states that the house sleeps 8, with 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The house sleeps 6, with three bedrooms and one bathroom. Our party of 8 were very uncomfortable at night because we had to sleep on the floor and sofa, which is ultimately not what we paid for. For a party of 6, though, this would be great.

Response from VrboOwner on 6 Nov 2023
Julia, I am so sorry about the mis representation. It has been corrected. At one time, I did have a sofa bed which would have slept two additional guests. I have since replaced that sofa. About the two bathrooms, just an error on my part (chubby fingers?) Again, I apologize and hope you were not inconvenienced. Please accept a free one night stay with minimum two-night stay on your future visit. Barb

Spacious, bright country house with room for family

The owner was willing to let me host Thanksgiving dinner for extended family at the house, which worked beautifully for local family members and for those of us from out-of-town who stayed at the house for the weekend. The house features a lot of family and farm history, with antique and farm-inspired furnishings, and there is lots to see on a stroll of the surrounding farm. We'll doubtless return for another stay!

Thank you for your kind words! It was a pleasure to meet you and your family. We are glad you enjoyed the antique and farm-inspired furnishings. Thank you for sharing in the family and farm history during your stay. I am glad that you got to enjoy the beautiful weather in your strolls and hikes to the Arkansas River and surrounding acreage behind the farm. I'm sorry you did not get to take advantage of the farm tour. - next time you come to visit. Depending on the time of year you may be able to learn to irrigate! We look forward to seeing you again!

About the host

Host profile image
We bought the farm is 1979. My ex-husband, Willard and I moved from the 400 acre family farm in Illinois to Manzanola with 4 year old Nick, 18 month old Kate, and1 week old Marc. Elizabeth was born 2 years later. The main crop was sugar beets and tube irrigation in 1979. The crops changed over the years to include acres of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and cantaloupe and pinto beans. We even tried our hand at watermelons but they were too big to handle. The children were an integral part of the farming. They helped irrigate at an early age and were familiar with driving equipment and picking cantaloup alongside the migrant labor. Willard and I divorced in 2000. He continued to farm the entire 200 acres including my allotted 50 acres.
Recently, the farm has been leased out. Last year one of the crops grown was pumpkins! Always an adventure. . .
Our family continues enjoying the farm for family gatherings as well as relaxing getaways whenever available.
