Idyllic surroundings, every need catered for
My family and I had a marvellous 5 night break in the beautiful Le Coin Perdu gite and loved every moment of it! Gary and Denise gave us a wonderfully warm welcome, with a delightful welcome gift of fresh bread and eggs with a bottle of wine. Their friendly hospitality left us feeling like we had known them for years, at the same time they are incredibly discreet, never intruding and always letting one feel one has the whole place to oneself. They are incredibly helpful and even made a Telephone reservation for me as my French is very basic. The accommodation is gorgeous with great attention to detail. The kitchen had everything we needed and more, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms (only showers) spotless. The gite also has a secluded patio for the beautiful mornings and evenings. Below the gite is a play room with table tennis, darts and various garden games. When in the gite, you hear it very well through the floor, but seeing as we were on our own with no one in the other apartment, it was never a problem. The Pool is enormous and refreshing. The cooler temperatures (22 C) didn’t stop us enjoying it and we swam several times each day, especially in the afternoons when the pool is in the sun. There were enough loungers and umbrellas to make sure there was always a shady spot to relax in. The pool commands a delightful view of the surrounding countryside with almost no traffic sounds. A small piece of paradise! The gite is a short drive from the local villages where one can buy all the essential groceries and enjoy a couple of excellent meals out, but far away enough that you feel “far out” and removed from the fast pace of life these days. There are some beautiful old villages nearby and we did a short day trip most days to visit some of the sights in the area (perfect if you love medieval history or just soaking up picturesque surroundings). But in the end we loved the accommodation so much that we wanted to enjoy a good part of each day at home too. All in all we have to say this is a top destination for all those who want to avoid the bustle that so many of us face every day. The children rated it as the best place they’ve been to in a long time. We would love to return in the future. Enormous thanks to Gary and Denise for a truly restorative holiday!

Spotless tranquility with a view to take your breath away
😊 A lovely, well-equipped gite in an idyllically calm location. We enjoyed a warm welcome from our hosts Denise and Gary; they’re adorable and attentive without ever being invasive. The gite was super comfortable and immaculately clean. We’ll remember all the little details that provided such pleasure: the bread and wine waiting on our arrival, the little herb garden next to the kitchen; the freezer in the games room where kids can serve themselves to ice cream (our son thought he’d died and gone to heaven)…. A sunny, spacious terrace (no worries here about social distancing), with a gorgeous view over the valley of Junhac. Overall, a relaxing stay marked by lovely exchanges with our hosts (special mention goes to the improvised aperitif around the gorgeous pool with Gary, Denise and the Breton family staying in the other gite). 😊

About the host

Hosted by Gary & Denise Stephens

Host profile image
After many visits over many years to France, it was perhaps fate that we would move here. Many people dream of living the dream, Denise and I decided to follow ours. And jumped in with both feet. We believe we have found our little piece of heaven here in the Cantal, a lovely old farmhouse with two superb gites, a large swimming pool, and the most delightful views over the countryside you could possibly ask for. Denise and I both like to explore and we are centrally placed to reach the Med, Spain and even Italy. I love the garden and to try to play my guitar, while Denise loves art and is eager to re-ignite her passion for painting. We both have grown up children back in the UK who love to visit, just 1hr from Rodez. We love where we live and look forward to it bewitching all our guests.

Why they chose this property

One minute high on the mountain tops then down again in the valleys and never far from cascading streams and yet beautiful meadows and forests all around. Deep rusty brown Salers Cattle graze and the new roads through the hills and lack of traffic on the roads make this area a pleasure to drive in. Experience the bustle of the local markets and fetes. The beautiful warm (30°) plus summers, balmy evenings, fresh clear clean air, peace and quiet and what is becoming rare indeed in the UK, lots and lots of space. both the spring and autumns vibrant colours make you just stop and catch your breath. And then in winter, you can still sit and eat outside and enjoy alpine blue skies with bright sunshine and the most spectacular sunsets. It makes this truly a special region all year round.

What makes this property unique

Gites one and two both benefit from being next to the pool with glorious views over uninterrupted countryside. Inside there are all the mod cons you should need which include washing machines, dishwashers microwaves, over and above the equipment that you would expect to have normally. There is a games room underneath where you can enjoy a game ping pong on the full sized table tennis table. There is space to play Pétanque or to just kick back and laze by the pool. If you wish to have a night in there are barbecues and the local good red wine, MARCILLAC is certainly worth sampling. we are only 3km from Montsalvy, where you have all types of shop and the nearest large town is Aurillac which is only 25 mins away. Entraygues is a beautiful village next to the river lot and has the most amazing architecture, Conque is another village which is a must see and absolutely a fairytale village. We are fortunate to have a Deer park in our own village of Junhac that children love to visit.
