Aux Jameleaux: family friendly home with swimming pool and bordering vineyard
This holiday home was renovated in 2017/18. We plan to develop the property and grounds further over time but are thrilled with our "home from home." It offers privacy, peace and tranquility, beautiful scenery, greenery and is situated in an area with plenty of sunshine and good weather for the swimming pool to be enjoyed. The historical town of Duras is within 10 minutes drive from the house and the beautiful city of Bergerac is a 30 minute drive away.
The house itself has an open plan layout, the high ceilings give a great sense of space and the design of the house allows the living areas to remain cool in warm weather.
The kitchen/diner is fully equipped.
Several sets of french doors allow easy access to the alfresco dining area and patio/poolside. The swimming pool is fenced with a security gate. There are sun-loungers stored in the garage for guests to use.
There are pool inflatables; a cricket set; rounders set; badmington set; boules set; footballs; swingball; darts board; various toys; colouring sets and some board games; either kept in the garage or in the house.
A travel cot with mattress and bedding are available for use as well as a portable "high chair" that can be strapped to any dining room or outdoor dining chair as well as a traditional high chair.
There are reading books, DVDs and a DVD player in the house. We have connected the television to a UK Sky box for freeview/basic Sky TV . There is WIFI for viewing programmes online.
All parts of the property are open to guests except for the garage outbuilding and some storage cupboards in the pool house/shed which are locked.
The historical town of Duras has a beautiful Chateau that is worth a visit. There is a Thursday night market during the summer months, and pleasant cafes and restaurants in the town. Nearby towns and cities such as St Foy La Grande, Pinheuil, Bergerac, Marmande all have distinctive attractions of their own. There is a parc for children in Pinheuil, a "country park" type play area close to the canal in Marmande, and a park close to the river in St Foy La Grande. An indoor soft play area en route to Bergerac is also very popular.
Numerous local vineyards mean that there is a vast choice of wine tasting venues to visit, from the larger Cave de Berticot in Duras to more local establishments in close proximity to Saint Astier.
The village of Saint Astier has several British residents, our neighbours on both sides are local French families. The village is tranquil and quiet and the grounds around the house are spacious and green, there are fruitful vineyards and sunflowers in view in their seasons.
There are supermarkets conveniently located in Duras and Pinheuil, with smaller corner shops (Tabac/Boulangerie/post office/café-restaurant) in neighbouring villages e.g. Villeneuve de Duras, St Sernin, Loubes-Bernac.
Tennis courts may be hired from the Tennis club at St Sernin at a more affordable weekly rate rather than by paying per time.

We had a lovely 2 week break at you property and would happily return. Fabulous location, great weather and lovely property. There was plenty of space in and around the house and we enjoyed the fantastic views, garden, and pool.
One additional aspect we very much appreciated were how approachable and reasonable you were, especially with all the uncertainty of COVID-19. Thank you!

Thank you Andrew, we are glad that you and your family had a good holiday here especially after the unusual year everybody has had with COVID 19. We hope that it was a time of real rest and rejuvenation as holidays should be.
We look forward to you hopefully spending more time here in the future.
Kind regards, Nia and Glyn.
We loved our stay at Nia and Glyn’s house. The setting is stunning - hard to capture with photos are the 360 degree views over vineyards and sunflower fields. So peaceful and relaxing - just the chirruping sound of crickets. The house is perfect for families - brilliantly equipped with so many games for outdoors and in. The table tennis was a great hit.
Whilst really secluded (just a couple of neighbours), the house is really well situated for exploring the area. We enjoyed visits to Eymet, Saint-Emilion, Bergerac and the Château de Monbazillac as well as the lively marché nocturne in Duras. Always lovely to return to the sparkling and pristine pool and comfy loungers. We would highly recommend this lovely home.

Antonia and the family were great guests who communicated well, respected our holiday home and looked after the property during their stay. We would happily rent to them again and highly recommend them to other hosts.
We had a fabulous week at Aux Jumeleaux! It is a beautiful holiday home and very spacious, clean and well equipped. The location is very relaxing and peaceful with stunning views of vineyards and countryside all around. We were very impressed with the amazing garden and outdoor facilities. The swimming pool, play area, bikes and games room were a huge hit with the children and a delight for all of us. The pool was also a really great size.
We really enjoyed exploring the local villages and markets. We loved Duras (just an 8 minute drive away), including the Chateau and Eymet was another favourite!
Thank you so much Nia and Glyn for a wonderful week. We would love to visit again!

It was a pleasure to hear about Matt and Ruth's family holiday! We were so pleased they had a special family time at our property. They were great guests and looked after our place well. We would love to host them again in the future. 😊
One of the most relaxing places we've ever stayed at. The house was clean and beautifully presented with excellent views of the vineyard. You need to get used to the lack of road noise as it's just so tranquil! The pool was welcoming and was perfect in the wonderful hot weather. There's a great games room with table tennis and darts. Outside there's a BBQ area with space to enjoy playing boardgames, cards or food and a few glasses of wine well into the evening.
The house is really well equipped so you will not want for anything. Will definitely be staying again as it was definitely the most relaxing stay we've ever had. Communication from our hosts Glyn and Nia was excellent.

This was our second stay at the property and we enjoyed our stay very much. The villa is in a great location - there are plenty of places to visit and activities to do - and well equipped, with lovely garden, games room and pool. The fabulous pool proved to be a real hit with our children again!

We spent two wonderful weeks here in July with our four children (4-9). The kids were entertained with the large swimming pool and play equipment in the sun and with table tennis in the rain. The house is beautifully decorated and we loved the different outdoor seating options. Thank you Nia and Glynn for the use of your house - we would thoroughly recommend.
The house is really nicely decorated, well equiped, good beds, lovely garden, amazing view,... We really recommend it!

Vacances reposantes

Beautiful property, in a stunning location
On entering the property the first thing my wife said was "its so beautiful I could cry" and to be honest the photos really don't do it justice.
Its a good sized property, very well laid out and everything need has been thought about.
The location is great, you are literally in the middle of no where, with views across the vineyards, with the sunsetting just beyond a windmill in the distance. There's wildlife on your doorstep, almost literally and while we were there we saw deer, hares, bats, owls, and hoopoes all from the back garden. Yet this rural idyll is only 12 minutes drive from the nearest supermarket in St Foy La Grande for all your supplies, for evening meals we ventured to the night market in Duras and to the beautiful town of Eymet. Of course you wouldn't be going to this area without sampling the vineyards, and you can't move for tripping over them, the nearest being just 3 minutes away!
The kids loved having the pool and in the high heat of August it was very much needed, and we we're often still out in it till midnight, enjoying swimming under the most amazing star filled skies.

We are so thrilled that our very first guests had such a positive experience, our main desire for our guests is that they have memorable holidays at Aux Jumeleaux in a relaxed environment, allowing time to rest and enjoy the countryside, good weather and local French culture. We want others to enjoy the place as much as we do.
About the host

Why they chose this property
This is a holiday home which is ideal for families or groups holidaying together. It allows a relaxing environment to enjoy the good weather, swimming pool, garden, games; all within a private property with its own grounds.
Inside the property there is a sociable layout with indoor and outdoor dining areas, comfortable and stylish lounge area, a well equipped kitchen and bedrooms that are comfortable with traditional wooden shutters providing an effective blackout effect to aid good quality sleep.
The property is ideal as a base for rest days as well as a good location for excursions to nearby towns and cities and all they offer. There are many activities within a 30km radius e.g. a family led zoo, chateau, waterpark, miniature port, river sand beaches, playgrounds, country park, lakes, golf course and tennis courts amongst many other activities. Further afield the coastal region of Arcachon bay on the Atlantic coast can be reached within 1 hour and 50 minutes.
What makes this property unique
The beautiful surrounding countryside which is particularly enchanting when nearby sunflowers are in bloom; the vineyard bordering the far end of the garden, the family sized swimming pool (10x5m) with secure fencing around it; these are all reasons we enjoy the garden and grounds of the property.
Within the house we enjoy the communal areas that are ideal for socialising and especially the sheltered alfresco dining area.
