Lovely cosy cottage, in a pretty village. Not that peaceful as it's used as a rat run for the local white van men. Lovely walks to Dorchester and the surrounding woods. Everything we needed, and lots of space, loved by our dog.

A nice cottage set in a good area, not far from Dorchester.
A nice cottage set in a good area, not far from Dorchester. Lovely view of fields etc. Footpaths nearby. Not far from Thomas Hardy's cottage. The cottage was nice but could do with updating. New kitchen units and a new bathroom put in. Bed was lovely to sleep in. A nice large garden to sit in. Two nice tearooms nearby. The Pine lodge tearooms and the one. at Hardy's cottage.
A week of the most perfect weather for exploring the area. Great cottage with lovely garden. Appreciated the loungers to lie in the shade of the apple tree after a
day’s walking. Really nicely furnished and comfortable bed.
Downstairs bathroom not so good for the elderly with steep stairs. Garden could be more dog secure. Excellent.

We spent a wonderful, relaxing week in this beautiful, atmospheric cottage.
We spent a wonderful, relaxing week in this beautiful, atmospheric cottage. The cottage itself is spacious, the garden is a gem (we had breakfast outside every day) and the location is perfect. It's rural enough to be very peaceful, but a stroll of a couple of miles along a very picturesque path takes you into Dorchester, with its restaurants and amenities. A tip for any visitors - the top-notch 'Yalbury Cottage' restaurant is about 50 yards along the road. It's well worth booking in advance of any holiday, as you'd be very fortunate to be able to secure a table at short notice.

The cottage was as advertised in a quiet village with no local amenities, although we didn't feel that we were far from various places to eat and Dorchester. We loved everything about it.

A beautiful, historic cottage with a lovely garden surrounded by countryside.
A beautiful, historic cottage with a lovely garden surrounded by countryside. No street lights so you could see the stars clearly. Heaven. Pity the weather was not good enough to sit out side with a cuppa or glass of wine. Well equipped, warm and comfortable. Local history was very interesting and well situated to visit local places of interest. Plenty of walks around - ideal for dog owners. No local shops, about 2 miles to Dorchester so you need to plan ahead slightly.

We loved the cottage.
We loved the cottage. It was very homely and well equipped. It is a little way from shops etc but we were aware of this when we booked. We had a delivery from Sainsburys, who found the cottage easily. it is a lovely area - just a shame that the road is used as a rat run, but there is off road parking and we slept in the back. There is plenty of space inside and a lovely garden.

We had a splendid time at the Old Post Office.
We had a splendid time at the Old Post Office. The cottage itself is very charming, very old and very beautiful. It is quite large so that all members of the family can find their favourits spot. It is well equipped and we wouldn't have minded to have more rainy days in order to have more time for reading or browsing the books on the village history. The garden is charming, it looks lovely and it is great to sit outside and listen to the various birds. The surrounding is rural and we loved to discover it walking. We knew that Thomas Hardy's cottage is in walking distance, but we didn't know that his old school house is just the house opposite, great for all Hardy fans. Stinsford and the Kingston Maurward Estate with the animal farm and splendid gardens are just 10 mins walking - we could have spent the two weeks just in the near surrounding ... However, the countryside and especially the coast are beautiful and wild, the towns and villages are pictoresque, there are some really nice beaches, some really lonely and wild places, always amazing views and a lovely coffeeshop nearbye.
In a nutshell: we had lovely two weeks, we did not imagine the cottage and location to be so very beautiful and we are already thinking of going again :)

We had a lovely family holiday staying at The Old Postoffice in Lower Bockhampton.
We had a lovely family holiday staying at The Old Postoffice in Lower Bockhampton. It is a very characterful house, decorated in an eclectic style, but with everything you need - appliances, wifi, comfy beds etc.
It was extremely peaceful and in a great location - a tiny village, but just 5 minutes into Dorchester and 15 to the beaches of Dorset.
Highly recommended.
