Only 4 miles from the historic city of Stirling, yet hidden away in a truly magnificent and peaceful rural scenery means a perfect location for year-round holidays. Osprey Hideaways overlooks the owners’ own 120-acre loch where ospreys can be seen feeding most days in season. 300ft high cliffs frame the far side of the water, making the views genuinely stunning. All the cottages are furnished to a very high boutique standard and provide excellent accommodation for couples or family groups. A welcome pack is provided including a bottle of bubbly so that you can relax as soon as you arrive. There is also lovely linen, towels, bathrobes - and even slippers! To top this off is the honesty room where you can borrow books, a huge selection of DVDs, games, toys and visitor information. The owners live on site and are there to help as much (or as little!) as you want.

Each cottage has been named after birds that are regularly seen flying overhead, and are perfectly located to enjoy the best of both worlds at any time of the year - the peace of the countryside and the amenities and activities of the city. As well as being only 4 miles from Stirling city centre, it’s only 5 miles to the motorway junction for surprisingly quick journey times to Edinburgh, Perth and Glasgow and all their facilities. Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park is 20 miles away and the mountains to the north or the beautiful sea lochs to the west are all within a 2 hour drive. There are numerous golf courses locally and even the Gleneagles course is only 35 minutes’ away. For walks the choice is endless and one of the best cliff-top walks in central Scotland starts right at the cottages! Stirling is a vibrant but compact university city offering wonderful attractions, including an incredible castle, the amazing Wallace Monument, the historic Church of the Holy Rude and even ghost tours. There are restaurants to suit all tastes, swimming pools, sport centres, multiplex cinema, theatre, museum, pubs and shops. The best bit is that Stirling is very much a year round destination. The perfect place for the perfect holiday! Shops, pubs and restaurants 4 miles.

one of the nicest properties we have ever stayed in - clean , cosy & had almost everything you could need. arrived to a lovely welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, eggs , butter and biscuits - never had so much left for us as a guest ! there was also kitchen roll, kitchen foil , washing up liquid , dishwasher tablets and clothes washing items ( things you would normally expect to have to buy on arrival ). barn owl was well set out, plenty of space for a family - just wish we could have sat outside to enjoy the peace and quiet ( there are chairs in the courtyard at the front where you can see other holiday makers or your own chairs at the back near the patio doors so you can be alone if preferred. parking is a big thing when i book anyway - i have a blue badge so need space to fully open my door to get in & out of my car . no worries here as barn owl has 2 spaces so there were no worries - each cottage has a clearly marked space. the main bedroom is very spacious with an en suite shower room , main bathroom has a bath and shower . the dressing gowns and slippers were a big surprise . beds were comfy - perfect after a long day out , driving many miles to explore the area and further afield . if i had to be negative , it would be nice to have somewhere to dry clothes ( we were told there is a dryer we could ask the owners to dry our clothes in but as my autistic son is worried about his clothes leaving his possession i didnt want to take up this offer ). i used a clothes airer but this isnt ideal due to the space it took up. maybe the washer could be replaced with a washer drier ? beware people parking in passing places !

Peaceful and just right

At first we weren’t sure which cottage was ours as the name wasn’t stated in the email but when calling the manager, he came straight out and let us know. The property was lovely and clean and a nice welcome pack was there for us with Shortbread, bread, milk, cheese etc and a bottle of Prosecco. Was a lovely little place to stay and only 20 mins or so away from the Safari park etc .

The hosts were friendly and always helpful. You can experience the natural world of Stirlingshire and yet be within easy reach of urban life. Safe and clean, a beautifully kept property. Outdoor activities and historic sites on the doorstep. As a family we plan to return. Memories of bird life, a glimmering Loch and space on to enjoy! Best place ever that we have booked so far.

Best place ever that we have booked so far. I gave 8 for location, as it is a short drive away for amenities but we found this to be a positive rather than a negative. Beautiful location isolated and peaceful, but a short drive to Stirling and motorway to access tourist areas. Lovely clean cottage, with everything you may need. Welcome pack a lovely bonus and owner very friendly and helpful. We would love to book again.

Great time at Barn Owl.

Great time at Barn Owl. Welcome package best we have ever seen. Lots of extras provided. Can be either a quite relaxing holiday or travel to many nearby attractions. We visited many of those including The Falkirk Wheel, Kelpies, Stirling castle & William Wallace memorial , Loch Lomond & a beautiful Japenese garden only 25 minutes drive away. If you like historical buildings Culross is a definate winner which if you are a National Trust member the palace & gardens are free. It is described as a palace but is more of a historical house. Thanks to Morag for all her advice.

This is such a beautiful cottage and location. Everything you need is thought of, even slippers, robes and a welcome pack. George and Morag are so lovely and welcoming. Morag was so kind to my daughters, even taking them to see her horses. This cottage is world class. It’s our 4th visit and won’t be the last ???

Just spent our 4th holiday at Barn Owl Cottage and can't recommend it highly enough.

Just spent our 4th holiday at Barn Owl Cottage and can't recommend it highly enough. It is spacious, comfortable, clean and great value for money. It is located out of the way in farming country, by a beautiful reservoir, so is quiet and peaceful. It takes less than 10 minutes to get to main shopping areas, near to Stirling for town centre shopping and railway, and is not far from main Motorway routes to get to anywhere you want to visit. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, and we'll be booking again for next year very shortly.
