The lounge runs the length of the cottage. With the original high ceilings, large windows and Victorian fireplace, this superb room has a warm, welcoming ambience and provides plenty of space for guests to sit and admire the view whilst enjoying a wee dram or two in front of the open fire. There is a large double bedroom with a super king sized bed, a twin room and a small third bedroom with bunk beds for two children. They are all attractively presented with colour co-ordinated soft furnishings. The gardens are a real delight, with a stone slab path leading up through the flower beds to a garden seat from which there are spectacular views across the bay to Handa Island and the Outer Isles. The mountains of Foinavon, Ben Stack and Arkle are also visible.
The immediate area is haven for outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of the great outdoors generally. Hill walking, climbing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing are all local activities. There is a thriving pony trekking centre in the nearby village of Sheigra, with rides amidst spectacular scenery. Fishing in the surrounding lochs and rivers as well as sea fishing is a popular pastime. The area is also a haven for wildlife, with seals and otters in the bay and numerous varieties of birds attracted to the region.
The beaches in this area are renowned. Sandwood Bay is particularly noted, with a wonderful walk across the machair to its secluded sweeping sands. The nearby beaches of Oldshoremore and Polin are also renowned for their unspoilt beauty. Kinlochbervie is the nearest main village. The most northerly port on the west coast of Scotland, this pretty village has an active working harbour and offers good local facilities, including a shop and post office, as well as a hotel with restaurant open all year to non-residents for meals.

Loved the area, beaches and scenery.
Loved the area, beaches and scenery. The old school was a lovely property, full of character whilst being very cosy. The open fire was very much enjoyed. The shower and bath need a refresh as does the grill and pans. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

The Old School House is lovely property very warm and cozy and set in beautiful location
The only thing that we were disappointed with was the lack of kitchen items
We had no kitchen hand towels no kitchen roll
No kitchen foil/cling film
A shortage of microwave cooking dishes
Things like washing machine tablets were in very short supply and some of the pots and pans have seen better days

This is a lovely house in a spectacular location.
This is a lovely house in a spectacular location. 3 beautiful wild sandy beaches within walking distance, 2 only 15 minutes walk. The house itself is sensitively restored with a lot of love and charm, the schoolroom itself a fabulous, large room with windows on all four walls, giving beautiful views of the coastline.

Perfect cottage to escape the ‘real world’.
Perfect cottage to escape the ‘real world’. Amazing views from the beautiful lounge room and easy access to beaches. Super cosy with log/coal fire and very comfy bed! Kitchen has everything you need. Only marked down ‘local amenities’ because you shouldn’t actually expect any unless you count beautiful beaches and unspoilt views! Fab sunrises and sunsets! Deer grazing outside the front window and it’s oh so quiet! Bliss!!

Stayed for a week, the cottage had everything you would ever need while staying.
Stayed for a week, the cottage had everything you would ever need while staying. The sitting room is huge, the pictures do not do it justice/show how big it really is. The master bedroom is again really big with super king size bed. The 3 beaches that are on the coast in front of the cottage ( all with in walking distance ) are absolutely stunning, Oldshoremore beach, 10 minute walk away is not to be missed. If you are looking for a holiday that is in a remote location with fantastic beaches on your door step, I highly recommend this cottage. (Just be aware it is remote, there is a decent spar a couple of miles away, but that is it. Do what we did and GET ALL YOUR SHOPPING from either Ullapool or Inverness on the way)

Excellent.
Excellent. We loved the new kitchen and living room sofas since the last visit. It is such a special house in the midst of the scenic location in the UK. In all weather (except for the 40mph winds) the coast, beach and mountain walks cannot be beat. Local services are thin, but then again that's exactly why you want to go to this part of Scotland. Shhh, don't tell anyone. We don't want to spoil it. Please tell the world that it is a midge infested land of bogs and rain!

ALWAYS COSY EVEN DURING THE WORST OF SCOTTISH SCOTTISH WEATHER. BOTH THE DOGS AND US LOVED THE BEACHES AND COASTLINES WE WALKED. NOT A MIDGIE IN SIGHT (TOO WINDY).
INTERESTING VIEWS OF HANDA AND VERY PEACEFUL.
ALSO THE GARDEN IS DOG PROOF (UNLESS THE ANIMAL IS A KNOWN ESCAPE ARTIST). THE HOB IS LIKE MANY I HAVE SEEN IN HOLIDAY LETS, THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT IT IS IN CHARGE. NEVER TURN YOUR BACK ON IT.
