Hadrian’s Wall is nearby, and Hexham, famous for its abbey and racecourse, is only a few minutes’ drive. The Northumberland Heritage Coast with its golden unspoilt beaches and castles is 50 minutes. Bamburgh and Alnwick, both with splendid castles, can be visited on the same day. Recommended restaurant/bar in Newton village (8 minutes’ walk) serving excellent food. Shop 5 miles, pub 3 miles.
