A cosy converted barn, which had everything we needed for a weeks stay.
A cosy converted barn, which had everything we needed for a weeks stay. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside about one mile from the attractive village of East Meon with its two excellent pubs. We saw buzzards and red kites circling overhead and caught a glimpse of a barn owl.

Met by the owner Sally on arrival; she showed us to our cottage and explained layout etc.
Met by the owner Sally on arrival; she showed us to our cottage and explained layout etc. cottage was spotlessly clean and smelled really fresh, in line with current Covid sanitizer and antibac throughout. Very well and thoughtfully appointed and felt like home from the moment we arrived. Two pigs a sheep and horses in field backing into garden. Lovely village 25 minute walk away, two pubs and village store. Stunning area to stay and so much to do and see within half an hour from cottage.
Would return to Shepherds Den in a heartbeat, a perfect rural retreat - in fact I think I could live there! Thank you Sally and family!

Shepards Den is the middle cottage of three.
Shepards Den is the middle cottage of three. It is a converted barn, attached to the farmhouse and has roof beams. It is generally charming and has many good points. The bed is extremely comfortable, there is a power shower, an electric cooker, microwave plus a washing machine and tumble drier in an outhouse.
The kitchen table and chairs and armchairs, however, have had a lot of use, the armchairs in particular are odd (extremely large) and really dated. There is a shared patio along the length of the cottages with a gas BBQ for each. It was very pleasant sitting out there in the evening.
The farm is about ten minutes drive from East Meon which is a pretty village with one small shop and two pubs. For that reason I gave the local amenities a 7, there are not many. Basically if you want a relaxed holiday in the countryside this is the place for you.
The farm itself is very quiet, it has horses and a couple of pigs. How quiet the holiday might be may depend on who is in the other two cottages on either side. The son of the owners had a BBQ with friends on one night we were there although was willing to keep the noise down when asked. His grand father was very soothing the day afterwards. He is particularly helpful and charming.
The joy for us of this holiday was the beautiful countryside. If you enjoy rambling this is for you. I would recommend Old Winchester Hill and the walks around East Meon. There are some very good walks in the information pack.
In all we had a very comfortable and enjoyable holiday.

Several good walks direct from the cottage, including 20 mins across the fields to East Meon with a friendly local pub - very good food but slightly pricey.

Pardon my being pedantic but the spelling is Shepherds Den! The cottage was warm and comfortable.
Pardon my being pedantic but the spelling is Shepherds Den! The cottage was warm and comfortable. The owner and her family were warm and welcoming as well as ensuring I had all I wanted. The only slightly difficult issue was that the owner herself was away, there were no other occupants in the other cottages, so for the night and some of the day time, I was the only person on the premises. I have given a low score for local amenities as the location is well in the country which was what I wanted but at least a mile or two from the local villages but only about 4 from Petersfield. It was certainly a very pleasant place to stay but perhaps a little pricey for the space?
