Hosted by Lorene D'Orazio

Thank you for considering the Barton Street Bungalow for your vacation home. We are the Lenga family; Bill, Lorene, Marisa. We live in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in the City of Chicago and have been visiting the Harbor Country area since we were young kids. As a young couple we rented homes in nearly every beachside community stretching from Sheridan Beach, Indiana to Lakeside, Michigan. Finally, we purchased our cottage in Union Pier nearly 26 years ago, shortly after our daughter Marisa was born. Today, Marisa is married, graduated from Loyola Medical school and is a Resident for Dermatology. As we enter into our retirement years , we find ourselves spending most weekends and nearly all summer in Harbor County. We truly love the simple joys that our home in Union Pier has brought to our lives. The time we spend here is focused on family, friends and neighbors all here in a common bond of enjoying the magnificent natural beauty of the area; the intimacy of the small town feel; the personal touch experienced at the local merchants; the bounty of the orchards, vineyards and veggies and the pleasures of the local dining, wineries, breweries and distilleries.
We have a keen interest in architecture, design and horticulture. That said, we love old houses and particularly craftsman style bungalows. The Barton Street Bungalow is the second renovation of an Arts and Crafts style house we have undertaken in the area with the first being our cottage in Union Pier. Here we made improvements to the home, worked with a local craftsman to design and build most of the furniture and finally, we designed the landscape planting over 260 trees and shrubs and several hundred perennials in our gardens. Last, we designed and built all of the hardscape including the Summer House and decks that were built around one of three of our nearly 100 year old maple trees that are the center piece of the landscape. We hope you find our efforts are worthy of your stay.
