About this property
Exceptional Mountain Lodge in the Colorado Southern Rockies. Multifamily space!
Enjoy Colorado mountain living at its best! Escape the heat and enjoy the cool and crisp mountain air of the Southern Colorado Rockies. The spectacular Elk Meadows Lodge, with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms easily sleeps 9 persons. The main floor offers a large Great Room with high vaulted ceilings, a stunning fireplace and a beautiful rock wall, a dining area, the master suite with a walk-in closet and master bathroom with walk-in shower, a modern kitchen with all appliances, a laundry room and an office with spectacular views of the 14K mountains to the west: Mount Lindsey (14,042), Mount Blanca (14,344) and Little Bear Peak (14,043). The lower level has its own entrance and consists of a large living area with beautiful aspen paneling and rock wall and a wood stove. There are 5 bedrooms, one with a king bed, two with a queen bed and one with a bunk bed (lower queen and upper twin). Additionally, there is a second kitchen with a sink, cooktop and large refrigerator, a full bathroom with double vanity, shower and bathtub, a sauna and a recreation room with exercise equipment. Two families could stay in the Lodge with each having their own entrance, kitchen, bathroom etc. There is a table tennis table in the large room downstairs.
The Lodge is in Forbes Park, a private, gated neighborhood on 13,000 acres, 12 miles East of Fort Garland and about 90 miles north of Taos, New Mexico.
In the winter we get moderate amounts of snow, the temperatures during the daytime are mostly in the 20-30 degree range. We have on average 300 days of sunshine per year. Snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing on undisturbed powder snow right out the door is an experience you will remember forever. Two pairs of cross-country skis (bring your own cross-country ski-shoes) and snowshoes for 3 persons are available for our guests. For downhill skiing the Ski areas of Taos, Monarch and Wolf Creek are about a 120-150 min. drive, so you can be on the slopes at 10:00 am, great for a day or more of skiing or snowboarding.
The roads in Forbes Park are plowed in the winter, yet you will need either an AWD or 4WD vehicle and good all-season tires or you’ll have to bring some snow chains for your car to get up some of the hills that will bring you to the Elk Meadows Lodge. For hunters among you, the neighboring San Isabel National Forest is only a 20 min. drive from the Lodge with an abundance of elk and mule deer, bears, mountain lions and turkeys. Hunting season is a busy season for us, so make your reservations early. Forbes Park has lots of wildlife like deer, elk, turkey, coyote, bears, beaver, many bird species and all kinds of smaller animals and there is nearby fishing and hunting. Within a 30-45 min. drive you will find The Sand Dunes National Park with artesian hot spring pools, Lathrop State Park, the Cumbres and Toltec scenic railroad, the Rio Grande scenic railroad and the picturesque towns of Fort Garland (with a Pioneer village and the old Fort where Kit Carson once resided), La Veta (lots of art galleries) and Cuchara (visit the Dog Bar or Timbers restaurant). We invite you to our Mountain Lodge and enjoy the peace and quiet of Forbes Park.
Note: In June 2018 the Spring Creek fire went through Forbes Park. Fortunately the fire did not affect the Elk Meadows Lodge and the trees surrounding the Lodge. New aspen trees are already more than 10 feet tall, and the meadows are greener than before the fire.

My boyfriend and I loved our stay here! The lodge has everything you will need and we went snowshoeing everyday right outside the front door! Would highly recommend if you are looking for a few days away to relax and reset.
my family loved the stay here. the cabin is breathtakingly beautiful with everything you could ask for. i definitely recommend this cabin the owners are kind and welcoming.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The home is deep in the woods and private and very comfortable. There is a gorgeous view of the mountains from one of two spacious patios. The owners were available if we needed anything. We would love to come and visit again next year-- thank you!

Great getaway to a lovely private oasis near Ft Garland
Comfortable accommodations in a rural setting with fabulous hosts. Except for the old burnt trees from a devastating wildfire in 2018 the Forbes Park area was heaven for us. Definitely need a new coffee maker, although current one still works well
Forbes Park is a beautiful place. Don't be scared off by the fire. Yes, many trees burned, but many remain and the views of the mountains are spectacular. The hosts were very nice, and the basement is well furnished with a hot tub and dry sauna. We will be back.

Perfect for our family of 3
We would definitely consider visiting again. Our family of 3 + our dog enjoyed a lovely stay in the beautiful Colorado mountains. The private park grounds made for perfect wildlife watching and nature walking. The cabin was in perfect condition with all the comforts and conveniences you could ask for. And Anneke and Matthijs were wonderful hosts. We were greeted warmly with instructions - and even cookies! If you're looking for a cozy and comfortable retreat, this is the place!!

Looking forward to our next visit!
We just had a fantastic stay at this cute cabin. Anneke and Matthijs are great hosts. The lodge is well appointed and very comfortable, so it took no time for us to feel right at home. It feels very private, but the owners are right across the street if you need anything. This was a huge help to us as we were unprepared for so much snow (even though Anneke warned us!). They could not have been more gracious. Our view of the snow covered park and peaks was breathtaking. We can't wait to visit again in the Spring and explore more of the area!

Requesting partial refund
The first night we were supposed to be there, a winter storm knocked out the power. And roads were not driveable. So we stayed in a nearby motel. I want a refund for that first night. The rate plus the four add ed guests comes to $239. Except for that, the stay was great. The hosts are wonderful people and the inconvenience of that first night, of course, was not their fault.
Stayed in this hidden gem over Christmas. The location is great, beautifully appointed house with gorgeous and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Waking up to mountain and wooded views from all sides is really nice. The cabin is everything you could want. Communication with the property owners, Anneke & Matthijs, was great, you can tell they really put the extra effort forth to make your stay perfect, they're very attentive and flexible to our needs.
We enjoyed the hot tub and sauna very much.
We encountered lots of snow on the last day, it was so fun playing & making fire there. Living in Texas, this is something we’ve never been able to do. I wouldn't second guess renting this place again.
Thank you very much. The place was absolutely what we needed.
These people were so nice! The house was great and almost fully stocked (they didn’t have a tea pitcher) and we had a great time. Definitely a pet friendly place and a beaaaautiful area, but be prepared for a long drive out of the subdivision.
The property owner was very friendly. The accommodation was nice. The house is about 6 miles On grated roads from the main road. The nearest town is about 15 miles from the cabin. The jacuzzi is nice. A great place to decompress. Bring your food to cook as there is not restaurants close by. As they had a fire 2 years ago not a lot of wildlife to see.
We had a great time and meeting the hosts! Very nice people. We've even invited them to visit us in San Antonio! The only issue we had was the description of where we were to be staying. The email said we were to be across the street. We discussed that with them and they were going to correct it. Otherwise the place was great. The views were great. And we used the hot tub, which was great after the hiking we did! We would go back and stay there again.
We just loved staying at Matthijs and Anneke’s beautiful home. All the amenities that you could possibly need and more! Will return again :)

Beautiful new cabin in a secluded community in the San Luis Valley.
The cabin is well designed and quite large. The views of local 14’ers are nice to look at out the windows. We really enjoyed the warmth of the wood burning stove. The property was extremely clean. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking meals at home. We saw elk, deer, and many hawks. The stars at night were amazing. The property is dog friendly, and the hosts live nearby. You can walk on one of the many roads in Forbes Park or access the San Isabel NF from the community.

Magical
The lodge is in a secluded development. The many windows offer spectacular views in almost every room. The beds are very comfortable and it is immaculately clean. However, being so secluded means there aren’t any type of stores close by. After a day of sightseeing, we got back and realized we were almost out of toilet paper so doing a quick survey of what might be needed is important before venturing out.
