About the host
Hosted by Shona Wisedale

I left a stressful job as a maths teacher at an academy in Gloucestershire to pursue our dream of a new life in a new country. When we fell in love with La Baronnie we knew the cottage would be perfect for a gite. We hope you love being here as much as we do!
We live on site, keep a low profile but are available if required. Equally, if you wish to be private on your holiday, that's fine too, we won't be offended!

Why they chose this property
The Dordogne area is just gorgeous with a wealth of history, places to visit and a wonderful climate. We viewed over 30 properties before choosing La Baronnie. Our sunny, south-facing location amongst wooded hills with rocky outcrops is idyllic, with spectacular chateau forts and honey-coloured medieval towns and villages nearby, who could want for more? We love the house and its views, its warm-coloured stone, traditional french windows, shutters and pigeonnier tower, its quirky layout and character, numerous patios, woodland, pool with a view and traditional French cattle-stalls in the gîte.
What makes this property unique
On the south-facing slope of the Dordogne valley, our property benefits from its sunny position, providing a real rural feel yet just minutes from the major tourist sites of the Perigord Noir including the medieval town of Sarlat and the castles of Beynac and Castelnaud and the Chateau des Milandes. Our pretty nearby town of St Cyprien has a vibrant and busy market every Sunday along with a Carrefour supermarket for all of your essential provisions. Our swimming pool area offers wonderful views of the Dordogne valley whilst being private and not overlooked. The Dordogne river, with canoe rental, river beaches and hot-air balloon rides is just minutes away. The nearby Vézère river offers several prehistoric sites around the small town of Les Eyzies. Several excellent restaurants are nearby
