About this property

Fanlac, charming cottage in the Dordogne

Fanlac

This charming cottage, with its impeccable interior and traditional style of aged wood and perfectly renovated stone walls is the ideal getaway for couples (with max 1 child). The cottage lies in the middle of the small and romantic village called Fanlac, with its excellent restaurant on walking distance… the small pool for the larger part of the year for your sole and private use, makes this place a fantastic holiday location for those looking for romance ànd excellence… In the high season from 14 July till 18 August, the very kind owners come to stay in their house and then the pool is not private but shared. Outside the high season it may be possible they come for a long weekend (they live in Switzerland), but most of the time you will have the premises for yourself… good choice for little money… Dogs welcome outside high season or on demand.

Interior

The interior of the cottage is designed by a very talented interior designer, she definitely turned it into a gem and created a beautiful interior that looks both refined and comfortable.

When you arrive at your holiday destination you will see a typical French courtyard with a lovely pool in the middle, a nice sitting area, to enjoy your breakfast with French bread and croissants in the morning. Entering your cottage, you will see a good quality bed with quality linen, your own little en-suite bathroom. A door leads to the open kitchen/living room where you can relax or have a great meal together. It all looks adorable and breaths love for the region.

Exterior

Small but fully enclosed garden with pool (security deck) so ideal for little children or a dog. Nice restaurant only 2 minutes away.

Region

Fanlac is a “Village Fleuri” close to Montignac, Lascaux and Saint Leon sur Vézère, Sarlat (15 km) is an absolute must to visit….

Disappointing
The property was small, dark and was not of acceptable standard for the price paid. Very difficult to find light switch in kitchen/ lounge as very dark. Remained dark when light on. Very low light over table which did not cast much light. 2 dim light bulbs in kitchen area one of which did not work. TV did not work. We were able to turn it on but no channels available. Tried to tune in 4 times but unable. No instructions in property. Unable to sit on sofa and read as so dark in the sitting area. Toilet was broken ie. Would not flush. We had to take off the cistern top and manually lift the ball cock to flush. The bedding and pillows on the bed were not of an acceptable standard. Only duvet cover and mismatch pillowcases on bed. Pillows old and lumpy. Bottom sheet made of nylon and had been washed so many times it was like lying on coarse sandpaper. It was 35 degrees and being expected to lie on an old nylon sheet is not acceptable! No window screens so we couldn’t have any windows opened. Many Asian mosquitos in vacinity of property. We stayed one more night tried to tune TV with no success. Had a bad night due to uncomfortable bed and bed linen etc. I contacted the owner by text and reported the issues. She said that she noted my comments about the bed linen and that she had arranged a plumber to visit at 2pm that afternoon. We did not want to waste a day of our holiday waiting for a plumber so we advised that we had vacated the property. No offer of refund from owner!
