About this property

Bwthyn Siwan: Two bedroom, pet-friendly holiday cottage

Check In: 4pm | Check Out: 10am

Bwthyn Siwan - pronounced 'Booth-in Shoo-an' is set within a complex of traditional stone cottages built within the historical grounds of the court of Prince Llywelyn, the greatest ruler of Wales.

The cottage is named after Prince Llywelyn's wife, Siwan - which is Welsh for Joan. Siwan was the daughter of England's King John. She was a confident, outspoken and passionate character much different to the wives of the kings and princes of the time!

With two spacious double bedrooms, Bwthyn Siwan is ideal as a couples retreat, for small family groups or two couples sharing.

The traditional Welsh stone cottage has been beautifully refurbished to an exceptional standard featuring light, airy rooms and tasteful furnishing.

As you enter Bwthyn Siwan there is a spacious hallway where you can drop off beach bags, muddy boots or any other gear that you don't want to take inside.

From here, you enter into the lovely open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with a sofa, two recliner chairs, a flat-screen TV and a small dining table.

The kitchen is compact but equipped with everything you need and has enough work counter space to prepare daily meals, picnics, or perhaps some popcorn for a stay-at-home movie night?

Sleeping arrangements

There is a downstairs double bedroom and a bathroom with a walk-in shower, washbasin and toilet.

Upstairs, there is a large double bedroom furnished with a king-size bed which features a vaulted ceiling with skylights. This bedroom also has an en suite shower room with a walk-in shower, washbasin and a toilet.

Nitty Gritty
The cottage is pet-friendly, allowing up to two well-behaved pets. There is a communal dual charge pod point EV charger at the Llys Llewelyn complex. You will need to download an app to charge your vehicle. All about Aberffraw

Aberffraw is a small, quiet village on the west coast of Anglesey at the mouth of the gently flowing River Ffraw, renowned for its spectacular sand dunes and immense stretch of sandy beach.

The village itself sits on the site of a medieval ‘llys' (princely court), which was home to the Royal House of Aberffrawfrom which Llewelyn Fawr or Llewelyn the Great, descended.

Llewelyn was the de facto ruler of all Wales for 40 years. There is no denying the historical importance of the House of Aberffraw with many local places and names still bearing reference to this era.

Today Aberffraw is a peaceful and scenic get-away-from-it-all village. Ideal for guests looking for a tranquil base to explore the Coastal path. It is a walker's paradise with plenty of trails for all levels.

Follow the path down the estuary to catch a glimpse of local bird species and where the river meets the sea, you can take in the inspiring sea and mountain scenery, with Bardsey Island and the Llyn Peninsula beyond.

Head in the other direction and you may catch cattle grazing gently in the heathland, as you head over the impressive sand dune range to ‘Traeth Mawr', which literally translates to ‘big' or ‘great' beach with its endless sand dunes, Traeth Mawrhas been called the Sahara of Wales!

Aberffraw Village has a village shop that's on hand for all the essentials and you can sample the delicious cakes served at the Llys Llewelyn tea rooms (open Wednesday - Sunday). The pub ‘Y Goron' or ‘The Crown' is currently closed until further notice.

The Church in the Sea or ‘St Cwyfan's' church is another must-see during your trip to Aberffraw. Built in the 7th century, the church now stands on the islet of Cribinau separated from the mainland by years of coastal erosion.

Against the odds this beautiful little church stands proud and bravely on a rock, and is quite a sight to behold. Church services are held regularly in the summer months, with occasional weddings and christenings, all of course romantically dictated by the tides! The cove in which the church sits, is a gentle walk of about a mile from Aberffraw village.

Further afield the larger village of Rhosneigr is four miles away by road or seven miles if you take the coast path – trust us, you won't be disappointed. There is a daily, regular bus service for those who don't want to walk back!

Whatever your plans for your Anglesey holiday, you will not fail to be charmed by the historic, proud and immensely scenic little Welsh gem that is Aberffraw.

Lovely cottage
A short break to visit relatives on Anglesey. The cottage itself was really lovely kept clean with comfy beds / bedding all facilities in good condition. The on site cafe was super and very busy! Good walks along the dunes kept our dog happy. Only downside there’s no pub left in the village.

Lovely last minute trip, would return.
Last minute trip. First time in Aberffraw, what a beautiful place and the dog loved the dunes and beach. 2 adults and our dog. Cottage was comfy, well equipped and had essentials that most cottages dont, along with some treats..even for the dog. Small enclosed private front garden with picnic table, sun in the morning. Separate enclosed BBQ area for the cottages to share. We only used downstairs, but shower was amazing, (actually a non slip shower tray, great). View of field at the back from lounge was nice to watch the birds, no sheep or cows on our visit. Cafe around the corner is amazing, beautiful food and coffees, cake etc and dog friendly, seating outside also, would return just for the cafe alone!. Easy drive to other places. Would return for a short break. Thanks.

Great accommodation with EV charger on site
Ideal set of well equipped and comfortable cottages on Anglesey. Thoroughly recommended for EV owners in particular as the PodPoint charger on site makes like a whole lot easier when charging on the island remains thin.

Delightful
My father in law stayed here whilst we were next door. It was our third stay, his first. He loved it. The cottages are perfect, the location is amazing. Absolutely nothing to complain about. We’ll be booking for next year which says it all really.

Value for money
Great little cottage, perfect for two people with small dogs. Newly refurbished en suite & bathroom. Unfortunately ground floor tiled area replaced by new carpet which made keeping place clean difficult with wet boots and dogs in winter. I always choose this cottage for tiled floor and now it is carpeted it makes for extra work when on holiday- also no seating area in porch to clean everyone down after wet Sandy walks. Real shame
