About this property
Featured on TV: Beautiful historic palazzo apartment with private roof terraces
EscapetoItaly: The 1 bedroom split level apartment is perfectly located in a 17th century palazzo in the historical heart of beautiful baroque Galatina (otherwise known as the Little Lecce). It featured on Channel 4's A Place in the Sun with Amanda Lamb in 2007 (watch online now on You Tube) and has since been beautifully refurbished by award winning 'Puglia Estates' (also seen on TV). It sleeps 2 to 4 people, is self catering and is a perfect base for exploring the Salentine Peninsular. The property boasts original vaulted ceilings, 2 private roof terraces (spectacular views), a balcony over the cobbled streets, and within just 2 minutes walk are are shops, restaurants, cafes and gelato (ice-cream) shops open all year round! A beautiful non-touristy, thriving and friendly town, stunning local scenery and only a short drive to either the Adriatic or the Ionian Seas make this an ideal location to take it easy and enjoy the dolce vita. There are miles of beaches, acres of olive groves, and gallons of fantastic wine! The apartment has heating/air-con, Blue-ray/DVD/CD, projector, fridge, freezer, dishwasher & washing machine.
Additional Information:
Why not watch the show featuring the property, right now on You Tube!
As with many old properties in Italy, there are lots of steep stone stairs between floors (the ceilings are very high), some low doorways and very high roof terraces with waist high walls. As a result, the apartment may be unsuitable for people of reduced/impaired mobility or young children (under 10). It is the guests' responsibility to ensure the safety of their children. Having said this, the apartment is full of character and original features, and the high terraces afford spectacular views of Galatina and the surrounding area. Smokers are welcome, but we do request that guests only smoke outdoors on one of the two private roof terraces.
Welcome Packs: Our apartment manager (Cristiano) lives in Galatina and speaks perfect English. He'll meet you at the property with keys, and can also provide welcome food packs or special requests. Why worry about finding a supermarket on the first morning of your arrival, when you could just wake up and enjoy some real Italian coffee and the wonderful local produce on the roof terrace? How about adding that romantic touch by arriving to a chilled bottle of Prosecco, perfect for your first evening, watching the Italian sun set whilst sat on the top sun terrace. Please contact us for prices and availability.
Festivities, Concerts and Markets: During the summer months, Galatina and the surrounding towns host many open air concerts, festivals and fabulous markets. More information can be found on the owner's website (see link below) and on the internet. Try searching for 'feste a Galatina' on Google, and then clicking on 'Translate this page' if necessary. More likely than not however, you'll just wander into the old town square one night and hear wonderful live music or get swept up in a local festival with lights, parades, music and dancing!

About the host
Hosted by Jim Cullingford or Paul Nuzzo

Paul and Jim bought the property on Channel 4's A Place in the Sun (filmed in 2006 and aired for the first time in April 2007). You may be able to see the show on Channel 4 on Demand (4oD), Series 5, Episode 3 (http://www.channel4.com/programmes/a-place-in-the-sun/4od#2924314).
Why they chose this property
This was the property Amanda Lamb (the show's presenter) loved .... and if you don't believe me, you'll find she's since bought a similar property in a nearby town, renovated by the same developer, Nigel Wilson of Puglia Estates ... the only 'place in the sun' Amanda has bought on all her travels and from all the properties she's visited over the years!!
What makes this property unique
Apart from being able to preview your holiday by watching the show, you'll be able to live the sweet life in a beautiful 17th century property with the original features but all the mod-cons too. The apartment is in a quiet part of the historical centre, in a non-tourist town with fabulous restaurants (no 'tourist menus' in sight), wonderfully friendly people, minutes walk from amenities and the summer's open air concerts, and within easy reach of all that the Salento has to offer. Spend your days driving around either coast, visiting the ports and beaches and seeing some incredible architecture. Return to Galatina for a drink (and people watch) in one of the local squares before a very short walk to your home from home and enjoy an outdoor film on the roof terrace with local wine and food bought in a local market and cooked in our well equipped kitchen.
Galatina really is the perfect central base for the Salento. It's easy to navigate and a beautiful, friendly, interesting and unspoiled historical town ...within easy reach of both coastlines but away from the evening seaside crowds.
