About this property

Kurreki - Seal Rocks

Under 4 hours north of Sydney and less than 2 hours from Newcastle is the beautiful, unspoilt village of Seal Rocks. KURREKI, is a modern interpretation of beach house architecture by Bourne + Blue Architecture. Sleeping up to 6 adults in comfort, KURREKI, is ideal for families or a group of friends to experience the surfing paradise of Seal Rocks and Treachery.

GUESTS ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE THEIR OWN LINEN (other than tea towels, doonas & covers, additional blankets and pillows)

Sleeping accomodation at KURREKI is made up of two double bedrooms with queen size beds and a large bunkroom with three bunks. The living/dining area, bedrooms and bathing area all open to a private internal deck and garden. All bedrooms have wall mounted fans and mosquito nets so you can enjoy the experience of luxury camping, lying in bed and looking out at the stars. Your conscience will be clear as the house is solar powered, only rainwater is used and sewage is treated onsite with a wet composting worm farm.

Spend your days hanging out on the hammock deck with a good book or get active and experience all that Seal Rocks has to offer. Surf the point break at No.1 Beach with the dolphins, go snorkelling off Boat Beach or take some time to go fishing. The nearby beaches face different directions, so offshore surfing conditions can be found year round. In the cooler months spend your time whale watching from the historic Seal Rocks Lighthouse or taking one of the many bush walks in the area. Or you could spend your days curled up in front of the fire reading, talking and watching all those movies you've been wanting to see.

Kurreki can sleep up to 10 people with a maximum of 6 adults. As it is ideally suited for two families a great configuration is 4 adults and up to 6 kids. There is a highchair and travel cot available for your use.

Perfect stay to connect with nature & family.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long January stay with our two families including five teenagers. The location is fantastic for an easy stroll to the beaches, general store and coffee van. The central courtyard and hammocks were so well used and appreciated. The layout of the house and its environmental features added to the experience of being in Seal Rocks, a beautiful, low key and natural place.

Kurreki is a property with potential

Kurreki is a well-designed, uniquely-laid-out space that is ideal for a large (10) family gathering/holiday. The beach is an easy stroll away and the village of Seal Rocks is perfectly charming. The house is in need of some serious TLC and detailed cleaning, however. And the two, closely-adjoining houses are likewise set up for holiday letting, which means you may experience late-night parties close to your pillow space, as we did. Makes for grumpy kids (and their parents) the next morning. Would we recommend it? Yes. But I would speak to the agent and ensure that the house is properly cleaned (particularly the wet areas) and attention to broken cooking range dials and similar annoyances like blown light-bulbs and sticky roll-a-doors are replaced/fixed before you pay the hefty tag that is required. Fair is fair in both directions, I say. “Unbroken” money requires unbroken goods/services. Reciprocity.

It's unfortunate that you didn't enjoy your stay at Kurreki in beautiful Seal Rocks. The driving rain and wind probably didn't allow you to fully enjoy the house or Seal Rocks but these things are out of our control. The weather conditions would have allowed you to make the most of the fireplace and the supplied fire wood though. The property on the same side as the children's bunk room is owner occupied so it is very unlikely that the neighbours kept any children awake particularly during an East Coast Low. Some people seem surprised that Seal Rocks is in the middle of a National Park. This obviously means no shopping centres / supermarkets or services and amenities that are taken for granted in urban areas. Every effort is made to repair or replace broken items in a timely manner but this also relies on guests reporting things they break or find broken. Unfortunately this doesn't often happen.

Relaxed beach-style living

We had two families staying here (four adults, four children) and had a great week in the sun. We were lucky with the weather and ate most meals outside, which was nice. The house is about a 10 minute walk to the nearest beach and a short drive to a few others - all of which are spectacular. The house is well laid out and very cool, but is starting to get a bit worn. We loved the fact that all of the rooms opened up to the elements with the big roller doors, but soon realised that meant a lot of bugs and mosquitoes in the bedroom, so we ended up keeping rooms closed up. While there are mosquito nets and we'd brought plenty of spray, they don't cover all of the bunk beds and they're a bit tricky to sleep under. Here's a summary of the best and worst bits. Positives - lots of outdoor living, hammocks, pillows and cushions in main room to lie around on, lying on the deck and looking at the stars, space near front door for all of your beach stuff and all the towel racks. Negatives - close neighbours - (photos look like it is quite isolated - unfortunately one of them had a crying child we could hear most days/nights), small fridge for a house that sleeps up to 10 people, pages of rules to adhere to, blunt knives and only plastic wine glasses.

Everyone wants a bit of paradise (Seal Rocks) during the Christmas/January holidays, unfortunately it does have to be shared! Being in the middle of a National Park means all of nature is experienced, the good and the not so good. There are a few properties newer at Seal Rocks although at that time of year they do ask about twice the rent. As Kurreki is a rental property it is required to have terms and conditions to be listed on Stayz. This is the same as any other rental property in the area. There are two knife sharpening tools provided at Kurreki, if the knives are not quite as sharp as you would like and the plastic wine glasses are provided for safety, as we decided all the glass sets that have been broken and either left in the dishwasher or in places where children may find them was a bit too dangerous for the next guests and our cleaner. There are unbreakable glasses provided (although not wine glass shaped) from which wine can be drunk.

Family celebration.

As a family of 6 (4 adults and 2 children) we found the house to be a wonderful holiday home. The large entry area was fantastic for dropping everything to head straight for the open shower after returning from the beach. The kitchen area was easy to negotiate especially with the barbecue being so close. My husband and I at 75 years of age, did find the bed a bit low but very comfortable. The living area we found to be delightful and great to lounge around in. Many thanks Rachael. From Chris.

We loved our stay, the house was perfect for the two families (4 adults and 4 kids). We loved how the house was focused around the central courtyard. The house was clean, well maintained and lovely and peaceful. We’d definitely stay again.

Balinese getaway only 3hrs from Sydney

A great property for a family holiday, cleverly designed around a beautiful outdoor setting and close to a couple of superb beaches. Could not find the promised hammocks and a bit short on glasses but otherwise very comfortable and well set up.

Thanks for your review Nick. It's great that your son and his family enjoyed their stay at Kurreki even though you couldn't be there. If they had contacted us we could have told them exactly where the hammocks and glasses are kept.

Comfortable and unique eco home in a beautiful area.

We really enjoyed staying at this property, a perfect balance between being in the outdoors as most of the house can be opened up, but completely private and all the comforts of a home. We traveled with young children in winter and despite concerns about the cold found it easy to get everyone cozy in the evenings. A wonderful ‘Glamping’ experience.

Kurreki Seal Rocks

Fantastic holiday! Seal Rocks is a great location and this house was more than adequate for a family. Communication with the owner was easy and for a young family the house was terrific. Just a small tip - throw some scooters or small bikes in the car like we did before you head off on holiday. The house is easily walking distance to the beach for adults but after a long day in the sun the kids were much happier about scooting back down the hill to the house than they would have been about walking home!! Will definitely be back!

Sensational property that compliments the perfect part of our coast

My family loved our stay here. The house was clean. The eco experience was awesome and suited our search for a remote uncrowded surf destination. This pristine getaway will call us again. Fire place was perfect due to the drop in temperature, this was just another good experience that we don’t get in Queensland.

Great property, good fun with a little family

Our stay at Kurreki was teriffic. It's a unique property, with all the rooms opening up completely to the internal courtyard, perfect for warm weather. We have two young children who enjoyed the stay. the property is perfectly positioned on the border of the national park and withing close proximity to both the front and back beaches. The property was a little light on in terms of pantry staples, so make sure you bring oil, salt, pepper etc with you

Love Kurreki

We had a great stay at Kurreki in November and then again in June. It was clean and prepared for our arrival on both occasions. The owners are really easy to communicate with and answered all our questions promptly. The house is very comfortable especially the beds and everything is provided that we needed. We love the courtyard. We will be back ......again.

Great beach house

We had a fantastic week at Seal Rocks - it is such a beautiful part of the world. Kurreki is a really innovative and fun beach house to stay at - we had the roller doors open most of the time and spent alot of time living on the deck. We loved the colours of the kids bedroom - the sizes of the spaces are just perfect. Loved the outdoor shower and even though it was close to the neighbours it felt extremely private. We do agree with the previous review in that there are parts that are a bit worn. But just replacing the FC around the vanity and the BBQ area with something that doesn't stain as much (like granite or stone) would fix that. The knives were noticeably very sharp!! We loved that we are able to stay in such a cool and experimentally designed house - we will definitely recommend it to all our friends!

Great place to stay!

Having the property fully enclosed was absolutely fantastic. There were 3 children there (6, 4 and 2) and it was great peace of mind that they were able to run around without the fear of them running off or being hurt. The facilities were great and included everything we needed for a quick weekend getaway. We would stay there again.

The perfect getaway

This innovative holiday house is designed in a way that welcomes fun and relaxation. The entire house revolves around a central deck area. This means, the bedrooms, kitchen, living room and bathroom are all spaced around the perimeter of the deck area. It is spacious and a very open area. The roller doors allow the entire indoor area to be opened to the outdoor area. My experience was with a group of 10 people, it was astounding that there were plentiful kitchen utensils, cutlery and utilities provided. The BBQ was great for cooking up a feast. We loved having WiFi also, this was an exceptional plus. The sound system within the living room was also a wonderful feature of the house. We were able to play the songs we loved on our amazing road trip. The property was very clean when we arrived and it is clear that it is well maintained. The location of the house was within walking distance of the beach. Not far down the road is the lighthouse which was breath taking to view the sunset from. This allows opportunities for great adventure, fun and relaxation.
