Best place ever

I have been going to Madeline Island for 10 years now and this is by far the best place I’ve ever stayed very clean perfect location. We had a blast looking for glass on the beach! We felt like 8 year olds!

Idyllic location right on the water with private beach. Spotlessly clean modern cabin!

This cottage exceeded expectations! Located on the shores of Lake Superior, the cottage has a wonderful screen porch which overlooks the property's private sand beach and dock. The cottage itself was very clean with modern amenities and pleasing decor!

Peaceful

The location to the lake can’t be beat. The waves crashing. My entire stay was an east wind constant waves. I saw the northern lights on my first night and an eclipse the next night. I’ll rent this one again and again.

A quiet little (comfortable) gem, right on the shore of Lake Superior.

This small house was perfect for my son and I. Quiet and right on the water. Nice steps to sandy beach. There is no TV (a good thing). It's right off the road, BUT there was maybe a car passing every few hours. Madeline IS is like going back a few decades. Calmer, no one is in a rush, except some who are just getting off the ferry. The owner live across the street. He checked on us on our arrival and the morning we were leaving. That was nice.

Spotless

The house was the cleanest lake house I have ever seen! And the view of the sunrise in the morning took my breath away. We had a fabulous time even though it was off season and a lot of stores and restaurants were closed. I never communicated with the owners before or during our stay, but there was no need to as the house had everything we needed and wanted. It's not fancy, but it's clean and comfortable. Can't wait to come back next year.

Lovely oasis on the shore!

We spent 5 wonderful days here in early September. While not luxurious in the traditional sense, the space is spotless, well laid out, and perfect for zen moments on the island. We did go to Big Bay State Park and LaPointe, but spent most of our time relishing the cozy cottage’s attributes. The kitchen worked well for preparing our meals (buy groceries before getting on the ferry!) while the living room and porch were where we spent most of our time. Bedrooms and bath were functional and comfortable. Hearing the gentle waves from the bedroom is a plus. We did spend time on the tiny beach with the Adirondack chairs which are easily transported down the few stairs. Sunrises on the beach were breathtaking daily! The pier is currently damaged, but I assume it will be repaired soon. There is no washer/dryer in the house. In summary, the location and layout of this rental will allow anyone a perfect “exhale” on Madeline Island.

Perfect getaway - especially now!

My husband and I just returned from a 5-night stay at this little cottage gem. We were looking for a quiet (and COVID-safe) get-away experience and that's exactly what we got. The house is exactly as shown in the photos but the dock and beach are even better! We spent almost our entire time on either the screened-in porch or sitting on the dock enjoying the lake. The sound of the waves is comforting both during the day and at night and the water is incredibly clear. We cooked all but 2 of our meals in the well-equipped kitchen - and used the grill as well. The bedrooms are small but adequate - and certainly clean. The bathroom is also a bit small but adequate and clean. I noticed that the bedding, towels, and paper goods were all of great quality -- like I have in my own home. You can easily hop on the ferry for lunch or dinner in Bayfield if you want to get off the island for a bit. We totally enjoyed an afternoon boat tour of the islands that originated in Bayfield. We plan to return to this great cottage with the gracious hosts in the future! Well done, Jim and Renee!

Short, but really sweet stay

My friend and I spent a long weekend at Jim's waterfront house recently and enjoyed every moment of the house, the lake, the hiking at the parks, the dinners in LaPointe, and the absolute relaxed pace of the island. Living on Lake Superior means learning about the daily changes of the beachfront, the rhythm of the waves, the clarity of the horizon & the birds in action. We now know that what might be a large sandy beach one day, will be wiped away in another day, yet reappear on another day. It's all very fascinating. The house itself is depicted very well in the photos; it's very comfortable & functional. We really enjoyed the table on the porch for doing some crafts & would also be perfect as a puzzle table. We had planned to bring bikes, but had a change of heart due to some unsettled weather patterns & had plenty to do without riding. It is a perfect area for bike riding though with it's quiet & flat roads. Thanks Jim & Renee, we'd come back in a heartbeat & will be sure to let our friends know about your gem.

Positives: Very kind hosts, very easy to work with. This review has nothing to do with them as they were lovely people. The location is remote, right on the water. Which is pretty cool. The wind was crazy for 2 nights and it kept us up. The sand beach was gone in the morning. That didn't bother us as we love looking at rocks. Keep in mind anywhere you want to go will be a minimum 15 minutes on the island as this cabin is up on the north end. Again, remote and right on the water, very neat! Easy check in, easy check out, great communication from host. The semi negatives: Not cozy, no rugs and all furniture felt like thrift store cheap finds. All kitchenware also cheap, non-stick pans very scratched and only 1 not non-stick very cheap and hard to use. Beds very hard. Bathroom a hook or hooks for towels and clothing. Dresser in hallway full of tapes is very moldy and makes a musty odor. Fabric curtains smell musty and make room feel even smaller. Porch looking on water has amazing view buts tons of dead bugs all over. Enjoyed our stay somewhat. Would have loved if cabin were more clean, less musty, had better kitchenware and was cozier.

This is a wonderful spot and a well-maintained home. Watched the sun and moon rise over Lake Superior and enjoyed the fireplace and the grill. Porch overlooking the lake is a very special place, and the whoosh of the waves is so calming!

Superior Paradise

First time on the island for me and my grandma to celebrate her 90th birthday. Bayside, and the island, both delivered! Cabin was cozy, but still had everything we needed for a memorable vacation. Although my grandma was physically unable to take the stairs down to the beach, she was still able to enjoy the beautiful location thanks to all the lakeside windows! She didn’t want to leave when our trip was over. Thank you Bayside for fantastic experience.

Wonderful!

This is an absolutely beautiful property. Truly a gem on Madeline Island. It was incredibly clean and provided everything we needed to prepare breakfasts, lunches and dinner. We enjoyed the private beach for an afternoon and very peaceful walks in the evening followed by wood fires in the fireplace. Do keep a eye open for black bears as we had one enter the road a hundred yards or ahead of us about a 1/4mi. west of the property. This was an amazing place to stay. My wife and I have decided that our trips to Madeline Island will be based on the availability of this property. A quick note about the owners; Jim and Renee are the best. Incredibly helpful, know how to navigate Vrbo and truly care about the experience of their guests. We feel blessed that they are willing to share something this amazing.

Weekend Getaway

Great location and comfortable space for two people. Very quiet. Beach is lovely and the views are spectacular. Some dishes were not cleaned properly by previous guests and there was one spiderweb in the kitchen but overall the house was clean. There are no additional pillows or blankets outside of those on the beds if anyone prefers extra pillows or blankets. Hand soap and dishwashing liquid were provided as were bath, hand, and facial towels. There is no tv and we were unable to get the radio working. However, we enjoyed the board games and deck of cards provided. We didn’t miss the lack of tv and we’re able to use our phones for music. The WiFi worked well. LaPointe is only a 10-15 minute drive away with some cute shops and a handful of restaurants. Given our visit was off-season, some stores were closed for the year. Overall a wonderful experience and would stay here again.

Cabin at Big Bay

Jim was very considerate and took care of the small issues we had as well as making good recommendations. The cabin is a perfect size for 2-4 vacationers with beautiful access to the Lake and a short bike ride/drive to Town Park or Big Bay State Park for unforgetable beach walks and, yes, even swimming. We kayaked, hikes, biked, and even made the short trip via ferry on foot to dine and shop in Bayfield.
