About this property
Shellback: Panoramic Ocean Views. Fast internet. Views of Wilsons Prom.
Set on 75 private acres with spectacular views of Wilson’s Promontory across the ocean, Shellback is the kind of place where you can truly escape from the world. Your only neighbour here will be the cows, sheep and native wildlife who have made Shellback their home.
Hidden from the main road beyond a paddock, two dams and down a tree lined road-way, your surprisingly comfortable retreat awaits. The house and garden sits in an island surrounded by farmland. You’ll see cattle or sheep graze quietly around all sides of the house. A short walk across the paddock leads to the private nature reserve and walking trails.
Shellback has all the creature comforts you need for a relaxing getaway with family and friends, including three French linen clad bedrooms, all with ocean views.
There are three large decks. One to the north to maximise the Wilsons Prom and ocean views. One roofed deck that provides great views, shelter and couches to relax and BBQ. A third shade sail deck on the lake (dam) side is a shady spot surrounded by trees. We built the decks to draw guests outside and to take in the scenery and country sounds – there’s not a car to be heard or neighbours to be seen.
One of our favourite pastimes at Shellback is cooking from scratch in the fully functional kitchen. Then chatting away the evening around the living room table with those dearest to us. A long weekend or a week away, the choice is yours but know that we have everything you need on hand for the most comfortable of stays. With lightning fast internet, it's also a great place to work from home.
The owners of Shellback have dedicated the lower third of the property to wildlife conservation - several creeks meander through the bushland and walking tracks have been cut, so there is plenty of exploring to do without leaving the property. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot kangaroos, koalas, wombats and echidnas during your stay. A map of the trails will be provided to guide your exploration.
It’s a 40-minute drive to Wilsons Promontory National Park, full of rugged charm and stunning secluded beaches. Many say it’s the most beautiful part of Victoria. It’s extraordinary, it has its own weather patterns which are a joy to watch from Shellback.

Things To Do
Pack your hiking boots and swimsuit. There are lots of beautiful beaches close by and National Parks for hiking or a picnic:. Cape Liptrap, Walkerville, Waratah Bay, Sandy Point, and of course the incredible Wilsons Prom.
On booking we provide a comprehensive "Things To Do" guide which includes wineries, distilleries, best eateries, rail trails, local artisans and producers.
You may not even want to leave the property - play bocce on the lawn, table tennis in the shed, play family board games on the floor, sit by the fire with a glass of red, sketch the rolling hills, read a book, spot wildlife through the binoculars or cook up a feast to eat on the expansive decks. Admire the changing scenery, stargaze after dark and enjoy the tranquillity, you won't see or even hear a car while on the property. Let the kids run wild in packs, making up imaginary games and exploring unsupervised. It is rare to find a place where there is no traffic to worry about. As adults we vividly remember those wonderful days of childhood freedom that kids rarely experience these days.

About the host
Hosted by Fleur Leslie

My husband Mike and I have always shared a sideways way of looking at things.
We have always gravitated towards one-a-kind things and places. This and our love of travel led to us buying an intriguing cabin back in 2005.
That cabin, Liptrap Loft became a success, won a few awards and a lot of hearts. Some friends then asked us to manage their place nearby. From there our side hustle somehow morphed into full time small business: Dufflebird - Unique Getaways for The Curious.
Today we offer a bespoke collection of charming, homely and dearly-loved properties for easy holiday rental.
Six Regional properties within a 2.25 hour radius of Melbourne. Three properties belong to us and the other three piqued our interest with their uniqueness - something special.
We think each property is a destination in its own right. bespoke, curated and nourishing. We find the longer guests stay the more value they seem to feel they get. Our ideal customers are looking for more than a bed for the night.
Our happiest guests are attracted to unusual places, artistic details and a slick process. We find this individual approach attracts guests that are respectful and grateful to the house and the cleaners.
