About this property

Tropical Retreat on Acreage

Honeybee House is a fully furnished and self-contained holiday home at Speewah, less than a 10 minute drive from the rainforest village of Kuranda in Tropical North Queensland.

We offer guests a quiet retreat in a comfortable two bedroom house on 5 acres of tropical gardens and rainforest.

The house will sleep a maximum of 4 guests in two queen size beds. There is also a wood burning combustion heater in the lounge/dining area, which will ensure your comfort in the colder months of the year (June to August).

The nearest swimming pool from Honeybee House is at the Speewah Tavern, just a couple of minutes drive away. This is a good place for dinner when you do not feel like cooking.

There is also the Kuranda Aquatic Centre at 262 Myola Road, Kuranda.

Kuranda is surrounded by World Heritage listed wet tropics rainforest with approximately 1,200 species of flowering plants, 800 of which are rainforest trees.

There are many things to do whilst staying at Honeybee House. Below are just a few of the options.

Enjoy The Barron Falls and treetop boardwalk, as well as bush walks within the rainforest around the village.

Hop onto the Kuranda Riverboat for a 45 minute informative tour.

Explore the Kuranda Arts Co-operative Gallery in Coondoo Street.

Travel on the Kuranda Scenic Railway in the afternoon to Freshwater and then return to Kuranda on the world famous Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.

Meet the largest collection of free-flying birds in Australia at Birdworld Kuranda.

Cuddle a koala, feed the kangaroos and wallabies, see snakes and freshwater crocodiles at the Kuranda Koala Gardens.

Marvel at the amazing tropical butterflies in the walk-through rainforest enclosure at the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.

Visit the Original Kuranda Markets and the Heritage Markets.

Sample the sweets made at the Kuranda Candy Kitchen.

Visit Bat Reach in Kuranda where injured flying fox bats and other native wildlife are cared for.

Half an hour’s drive west from Kuranda is Mareeba where the rainforest meets the outback. Below is a list of some of the things you can do on the Atherton Tableland and beyond.

There is Jaques Coffee Plantation and the Golden Drop Mango Winery where you can relax and taste their products.

Visit the towns on the Atherton Tableland and the many majestic waterfalls, such as Millaa Millaa Falls and the crater lakes of Eacham and Barrine.

Mungalli Creek Dairy at Millaa Millaa offers award-winning bio-dynamic milk, yoghurt and cheeses and welcomes visitors.

Gallo Dairyland at Atherton produces gourmet cheeses and hand-crafted chocolate.

Rainforest Retreat
Living in the rainforest with the ancient trees and lush undergrowth we were able to relax surrounded by the local wildlife nearby. We feel fully recharged and ready to face big city living once again - all thanks to this very magical spot in Speewah. Thank you to Our host and family for giving us the space and support to do this.

Peace, Beauty and Serenity
Having lived in this area a few years ago, it was amazing to be back amongst nature and the peace and serenity of Honeybee House. It sits within a beautiful environment, is near to the National Park for rainforest walks and if you want to see other people, it is near to Kuranda where there are shops, cafes and a supermarket.

Ah the serenity
What a beautiful gem. Lovely property set on several acres of lovely gardens and rainforest. So quiet and peaceful. Also a lovely part of the Atherton Ranges, close to Mareeba and Kuranda. House was comfortable with everything you would need. We will return.

100% fantastic holiday home
Peace, perfect peace in a lovely garden setting. The house is welcoming, very comfortable and comprehensively equipped. Our holiday was for our elderly dog’s sake as much as ours, and I don’t think that she would have found a better home away from home anywhere. Melissa and Warren are unobtrusive when they’re not helping guests, but immediately responsive when help or advice is needed. Speewah is a little hidden gem off the Kennedy Highway. It is a great location as a base for both the Tablelands in one direction, and Cairns northern beaches and airport in the other. A proper community too, with a little convenience store attached to a friendly pub with a pretty good menu. When you’re out walking (you should get out walking, the area is beautiful), the locals will stop to chat. We told Warren that we’re not leaving, he’ll have to change the locks 😊 I’m afraid that Real Life(™) gets in the way, but it’s that sort of place, you won’t want to leave. Write a comment…
