About Karen Vial
Karen is proudly a South Australian, born & raised in the mid-north of the state in Port Pirie and Terowie. She relocated to Adelaide in 1988 with work. In 2014 she opened her own property company and in 2016 her guest home was also launched online. She lives between Adelaide & Gawler, in between guest bookings and absolutely loves the balance of city and country. Karen's father's family hailed from Clare and the UK and her mother's family came from the local areas in Mallala and Wasleys. Her grandfather managed the Prince Albert Hotel in Gawler's main street in the early 1900s, so she believes her family 'connections' have called her 'home'.
Karen Vial purchased this House in 2010
Why Karen Vial chose Willaston
Karen thoroughly enjoys travelling and has done so extensively throughout Australia and is making her way through her overseas 'bucket list'. She loves experiencing new places, good food and nice wines. It was by pure chance with a pending relocation in her employment to Gawler in 2010, that she purchased the property. When these plans changed direction, she retained the property and launched it online as an accommodation home in April 2016. Karen & her husband David, were married in the actual church on 30 July 2016 with a reception for family & friends in marquees around the building. Sadly, David passed away in Adelaide on 22 November 2016, but Karen has retained the home for her guests, as a tribute to the wonderful times they spent together here and the greatest memory of their time together, being their wedding day.
What makes this House unique
Karen fell in love with the property, within 2 steps inside the foyer on open day! Having a passion for character homes/properties, she has gradually added to the conversion of 2001 and the renovations from the owners in between. Karen very much wanted THE CHURCH to reflect easy living and home comfort and ambience. You have the opportunity to stay in a former church, in a township steeped in SA history, which is also located next to the Barossa Valley & on the way to the Clare Valley.

A delightful stay in a lovely property close to the vineyards
A very unusual and interesting property with lots of history, being a converted Methodist chapel. The layout really suited us as a family with lots of room inside and a great space outside to relax and for BBQ s. Everything we needed was provided and the hose was spotless.
Thank you so much for your wonderful Guest Review! I really enjoyed meeting you both on arrival and so happy that you and your family could enjoy such a lovely holiday together. I never underestimate the privilege of owning a piece of our local history. Thank you so much for appreciating it also. Safe travels & happiness to you & your family! Kind Regards Karen V. - Guest Home Owner & Host
good comfortable property, well equipped, close to cafes and wine region, we did have some issues but hopefully they have been rectified for future clients.
We stayed there on our wedding night plus extra few days. It is the most beautiful place to stay. With the relaxing spa then to sit near the wood fire so peaceful. We sat at side and had breakfast while listening to the birds sing.
Walking distance to the pub for tea. Plenty off room for a family to stay. And the owner Karen she is a lovely lady very caring and warm lady. Which make you feel so comfortable.
Definitely will be staying again in the future. Xxx
Thankyou Joanne & Scott. So pleased you had such a lovely stay with your family, for your very special weekend. It was great to meet you both in advance of your stay and again on the day you left. Wishing you all the health, happiness & best wishes in the future. Regards KAREN V. - Owner
Wonderful weekend away
What a lovely stay we had! 5 of us came from Melbourne to the Barossa for the weekend and thoroughly loved not only our destination, but our accommodation too. Nice and roomy, all our surroundings were immaculately kept and well organised. There were plenty of reminders and information to ensure we knew how everything worked etc. We found our wonderful host very easy to interact with, she even got us out of an early bind where we accidentally locked ourselves out. If you are coming up, bring your own portable wifi, or just use free spots around town to avoid racking up any data usage costs on your mobile.
Outdoor area with BBQ was well utilised and helped the place feel like home. Very effective air conditioning and lovely kitchen areas to produce food of your own. Also can't help but appreciate the very sharp knives supplied to cook with - nothing worse than getting to a place and nearly losing a finger with blunt kitchen knives, very nice touch.
Would gladly return.
Amazing amazing amazing
We had such a great night I was truly amazing.we definitely go bak
Thank you Melissa for choosing to stay at our family getaway. We are happy that you had a nice stay!
Karen and David have done an amazing job on 'the church'. It has beautiful decor, and has a very welcoming feel. The bedrooms and couches were comfy, and there was access to a lovely outdoor setting with a bbq. The place was overall clean, but had some friendly and running around, which Karen had informed me about. Karen was also helpful and good with communication. The only downfall would be the far drive! Would definitely recommend The Church. :)
Thankyou Thuong for your feedback. We appreciate that you chose to stay at our property.
