About this property
This place is a biker, skier and artist’s paradise 4 miles from Kingdom Trails!
If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, a 4 mile scenic bike ride to Kingdom Trails, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. The house is a artisan's dream, with built-in cherry cabinets, hardwood floors and concrete counter tops. Everything you could possibly need is here for a perfect Vermont vacation; wood stove, washer and dryer, fire pit, well appointed kitchen, trails to hike and snowshoe and a small cabin in the woods (with it's own woodstove). Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.
My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio, woodworking shop, metal studio and house. I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill.
Please let us know if you might be bringing a pet. We ask that they not be left by themselves in the apartment, unless crated..
If you're looking for a place that can feed your soul, as well as offer you access to the best of what Vermont has to offer, this is the spot. Kids love it too, and yes, we have a bb gun.

We had a wonderful stay here -- the views are amazing and it's such a peaceful spot. The caretaker was very responsive, and we were very cozy. It was a quick drive to Burke for skiing. We'd love to return!
This property was fantastic! We had gorgeous views, the apartment was much bigger than expected. Our dogs were welcomed and had a great time. We were a few minutes from all the trails. This place was perfect for us, we would absolutely stay again!
We loved our stay here, especially because of the outstanding views and privacy of this lovely home, accentuated by the owners paintings and outdoor sculptures. The home was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Highly recommend!
Fantastic stay once again! Our pups enjoyed the beautiful property so much, the trails are great and they enjoyed seeing other dog friends while they were there. We biked at kingdom trails just a few minutes drive away, and that was awesome as well. And thank you for letting us pick apples! We made apple crisp it was wonderful. And the sunsets were just perfect.
This property is absolutely beautiful! We have a great 3-day stay including our pup! We love to take her to Dog Mountain which is a short few minutes away so the location is perfect. Meryl, we enjoyed meeting you and David this time around.
Property was great! We had a wonderful time. The apartment is larger than expected, and the wood burner makes it super cozy on cold VT days. The location had tons of art/sculptures to take in with the landscape. We had a young child who enjoyed the toys and books available at the apartment. I would recommend this location to anyone looking to stay in Vermont’s North East Kingdom.
Even though we just spend 2 nights here we enjoyed it very much. It’s such a beautiful location and the host is wonderful. We will return here for sure for a longer stay.
My fiancé and I loved our stay, and always a plus to have a place that lets us bring our dog! Great property and in the perfect location to disconnect. We love Vermont so this will now be our place to visit on the regular. Thanks again for such a great stay!
We had a wonderful stay. The location was amazing with a view that can't be beat. The space was warm, inviting and very clean. We enjoyed walking our dog on the trails out back. We would definitely return.
Accomodations were great! Stayed in unit 3, which is even better and more spacious than the listing photos demonstrate. Property is Idyllic with incredible views across a valley. Meryl was easy to communicate with, accomodating, and very responsive. The artwork thoughout is amazing. Anyone who who has ever worked with their hands will truly appreicate the metal sculptures, from both a workmanship and subject matter standpoint.
We had a terrific time staying in this property! Great location, just a quick ride from plenty of hiking and mountain biking. Meryl is a wonderful host and we would be happy to return in future.
We stayed in the apartment for a long weekend in June as a family of 3 with our dog. The location is perfect for a weekend on the Kingdom Trails, just a 10 minute drive into East Burke, and with a stunning view and plenty of woodsy trails to explore. The apartment was cozy, spacious and comfortable, and our dog had a ball playing with the owners’ dog. A great weekend!
very nice stay! my mother and i stayed in the lower loft that had a great view and a wood fireplace. meryl and the property manager rob were very responsive and helpful. wifi is a bit slow for watching a movie and the entrance could do with a few hooks and a place for shoes and coats. other than those minor details everything about this place is beautiful and relaxing! i want to come back in the summer to enjoy the hiking trails on the property!
Such a great experience for my whole family. Couldn't ask for better accommodations, view, and hospitality.

About the host

I am an oil painter, who has been working as an artist for 30 years. David is a woodworker, and metal artist. Together we have collaborated on our property for 20 years. Recently, we have been spending our winters in California, perusing our art careers, returning to Vermont in time to plant the garden.
Why they chose this property
We bought this property with a vision of making it into a compound that would inspire creativity. It was a blank canvas with an incredible vista, except for the acres of clear-cut forest, which made it look as if a bomb had been dropped. First we cleaned up the land, which took a year, David built a barn to house our equipment on the second year, I started the perennial gardens, and together with our son, we began building the stone walls. The third year, my studio and David's woodshop were built, we then were able to work up here, while we lived off site. We began the house the following year, and David had the opportunity to build a structure with a rounded wall (the front wall of our house)....We lived in my studio for 6 months. Our first project in the house was an apartment, complete with David's beautiful wood cabinets and concrete counter tops. We lived there while we began working on the rest of our home. It is this apartment which we now rent on VRBO.
What makes this property unique
Benefits? This compound is like heaven. Gardens, trails, firepits, a cabin in the woods, fresh air, no traffic, walking and running loops, privacy, organic veggies, beauty, beauty, beauty....
If you want to vacation in a rural area, you cant do better than this. And town is only 4 miles away.
