Museums: Delta Blues Museum
The Delta Blues Museum was established in 1979. This internationally acclaimed museum showcases the history and significance of the Blues in this region. It features a wax figure of Blues great Muddy Waters and the famous Muddywood Guitar, videotape and slide-and-sound programs, photographs, recordings, books, memorabilia, archives, and much more. Stovall Plantation was the original home of the Muddy Waters Cabin, which is now located in its new home at the renovated Freight Depot on Blues Alley.

Tennessee Williams Museum

Hambone Gallery

Clarksdale Mississippi.

LITERARY
Tennessee Williams
Clarksdale is the childhood home of America’s most performed playwright, Tom “Tennessee” Williams. Young Tom’s grandfather served as rector of St. George’s Episcopal Church and lived in the parsonage. The church and parsonage are still active today.
Take a walking tour of the nearby historic neighborhood that greatly influenced the characters and events that are well known in Williams’ plays and screen adaptations such as Summer and Smoke, and The Glass Menagerie.

The Birthplace of the Blues
Clarksdale

Many say Clarksdale, Mississippi is the very birthplace of the blues. It would be hard to argue against it. Site of countless blues festivals and home to famous blues musicians like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Big Jack Johnson, and Son House, the city will definitely teach you everything you need to know about the health of the blues in the Delta today.

Historic Blues District & Live Entertainment

Within the city, you’ll find the Delta Blues Museum, a literal blues shrine of artifacts and memorabilia; actor Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Blues Club, where famous blues musicians sling lyrics on a juke joint stage almost every night of the week; and the iconic Crossroads of Hwy 61 & 49, the site where Robert Johnson allegedly sold his soul to the devil.

One-of-a Kind Lodging
At the 'Squeeze Box' Delta Style rules the day. Designed and decorated by local artists. The Squeeze Box features works by local painters, sculptors, and photographers.

When visitors travel to Mississippi to discover our state's blues musical heritage, they find the real, authentic experience here - especially in places like Clarksdale in the Mississippi Delta.

Another interesting site in the area is Hopson Plantation. The Hopson Planting Company was established in 1852 to grow cotton, the Delta's cash crop. The 4,000-acre property reached its
heyday in the 1940s when the company was first to grow and harvest a cotton crop produced completely by mechanical methods. No longer a functioning farm, the Hopson Plantation and Commissary stands today in much the same condition as it was more than fifty years ago.

After you've worked up an appetite discovering all of the Mississippi blues history and heritage in Clarksdale, you'll have plenty of places to dine. Right beside the sign marking the historic crossroads is another famous Clarksdale landmark: Abe's Bar-B-Q. Since 1924, barbeque lovers have flocked to Abe's to enjoy tender pulled pork sandwiches and splendid sides. Come hungry and order the 'Big Abe.' Chamoun's Rest Haven Restaurant is indeed a haven of multi-cultural dining in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. An extensive menu features American and Italian fare as well as some of the area's best Lebanese cuisine. Don't leave without sampling the stuffed grape leaves, stuffed cabbage and stuffed kibbie.

The Grammy Museum Mississippi is located a short 35-minute drive from our front door in Cleveland, Mississippi. Drive down in the mid-morning and enjoy a stroll around the museum; drop by Dockery Plantation for a quick see as you head back to Clarksdale by 3:30pm - 4:00pm for a rest. Then it's restaurants galore, live "real deal" Mississippi Delta music (365 days/year), bars and shopping all within a 5-minute walk from the Squeeze Box front door. No reason to drive.........leave your car parked out front of your guest suite and stroll from venue to venue and enjoy.

Blues

Our stay at the Squeeze Box was great. We enjoyed all the music memorabilia and met the designer of the room. One thing I will mention for the ladies is to make sure you bring a good lighted makeup mirror. The owners were great when I called them to let them know we were arriving sooner than anticipated. The Hopeless Case bar was right across the street and was our favorite hangout!! If your looking for off the beaten path to listen to good blues music, this is the place to be!!

Mold / mildew issue. Strong odor that did not abate during stay. Damp in space. Leak from ceiling in bathroom area. Mattress and box springs dirty (mold?). Needs replaced. Toilet seat loose and broken; needs replaced. Great location, convenient walk to venues. Space design and layout good. Host responsive. Check-in was good.

Coming for an iconic blues experience? This is definitely the place for you. It is conveniently across the street from Hambone. Stan Street (owner and proprietor) is extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the blues, and will give you a convenient list of all blues acts playing and where during your stay. If lucky, there may also be a jam going on there. We parked right in front the entire stay. We only left to hit a couple stores for necessities. We walked to everything else from the apartment, The pictures are accurate of the interior. You'll spend quite a while enjoying all the fabulous artwork. The L couch in the front room is not that comfortable to lay on, but is obviously perfect for buds to drop by to throw a couple back. For us older farts, I found removing the back pillows and bringing some in from the bedroom did the trick for late night TV viewing. This is a very old building, so your expectations need to match. There will be no granite top counters or top of the line kitchen appliances. You are in the Home of the Delta Blues, so you shouldn't be cooking anyhow, There are many walkable, inexpensive, great restaurants. Fridge is dorm sized with an extremely small, partially iced over freezer. Recommend a cooler for ice.The bed is firm but comfy. Shelves in BR served as a handy dresser.Great for a couple senior citizens and perfect for younger blues hounds wanting a full on blues experience.

Squeezebox - Clarksdale

Great place. Great location. Great people. Great music. Loved the Squeezebox. Loved Clarksdale. Loved the friendly people. Loved Red's Juke Joint. Loved the jam session at Levon's Pharmacy. It was a pleasure to eat breakfast with Watermelon Slim. If you are in Clarksdale, be sure to eat at Larry's Tamales.

We actually got the Delta Room so this is based on that and not Squeeze Box

Coolest place! Every time I looked around I saw something awesome. John was very prompt and accommodating, informative. Place was clean and surprisingly quiet. DEFINITELY WILL RETURN AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Some tips: 1. Be sure to find and use the shower mat provided as the shower floor can be pretty slippery. 2. Use the Magic Fingers on the bed...soooo relaxing and the quarters go to a good cause. 3. If you are going to walk to the juke joint Red's, do not walk down Sunflower St. The pavement is in horrible condition. Instead go down the street that Ground Zero is on and just past GZ is a parking lot; cut across that and then just a very short way down Sunflower (with better sidewalks) to Red's...with the big smoker out front. The night we were there cover was $10 per person. The food smelled great but we had already eaten at Yazoo Pass...food there was GREAT. We had been in Memphis the whole week prior and that meal at Yazoo was the best one we had the whole week! We had the small plate shrimp and the Ahi Tuna which was fantastic. Bluesberry Cafe for breakfast was fun. Music at 10AM, basic food choices but everything was good. Delta Blues Museum was bigger and better than anticipated. Sorry we only had one night to spend.

Down in the Delta with my main Squeeze

Down in the Delta with my main Squeeze. Arriving from Australia with my Memphis Gal now living in Oz, we knew what we were getting into, having been to Clarksdale before. Downtown, in the heart of the vibrant and ever changing Blues precinct, there is great pleasure in being able to park the car and leave it parked. We preferred to walk to most places and play or listen to music each night. Food is plentiful and easy to find from the Squeeze. We stayed 6 nights, and ate in some, because there was a small kitchenette, but mostly took advantage of a number of great restaurants that have sprung up since we were last here. Nothing is more than a slow shuffle away. A quick trip to Memphis and then back for more squeeze action, a return to the scene of the crime, for a second go round in as many weeks. Now I'm not sayin' it's a 5 star establishment with all the frills. It's more that it suited exactly what we wanted. A cool and inspiring little place, suitable to have a coupla business meetings, or make a snack and regroup for the next big outing to hear some world class music, or find something good to eat or drink, or get some art into us. Oh and a little tyre kicking as well, but that's a whole other piece of catfish. We brought a bunch of quarters to ride the magic fingers, and although it's not a bucking bronco, it's a bunch of fun after a hard day and night of social, fun loving local hangouts. Never turned the Tv on once while here. Who needs it. The show is on the street and in the buildings and the wonderful local people and music . Drink it up. I am high on lack of sleep, too much coffee, wine and good times, but beyond that, don't sweat the little problems that happen in every room away from the home bed. Embrace the Squeezy, and she will squeeze you back and then some! Be careful, because Clarksdale and the Delta might get to you and you'll find yourself plotting how to stay here longer...... Others have tried to get away and been sucked in to the vortex of Delta time. We'll be back... it happened to us... See you again soon Adrian and Carla

The Squeeze Box is creatively decorated with music paraphernalia and is very convenient for going out in Clarksdale. Unfortunately, when we entered the property, a musty smell hit us. Squeeze Box doesn’t have any windows that open so there is no way to air it out. There is a dehumidifier in the property but it kept filling up and stopping. The owner was supposed to come round and empty it but never did. In the end we figured out how to empty it ourselves, but it didn’t make much difference. I felt like I was permanently cold, even when it was 80 degrees out. Our towels also never really dried. There were a few other issues such as the Wi-Fi going out several times, some dust and cobwebs, and insufficient toilet rolls. The dampness was the main issue, though. It was a shame as other than that, we had a fantastic time in Clarksdale.
