Would stay here again.
This was the perfect place for a birthday celebration weekend. We stayed with another couple. The cabin was very clean and well stocked with linens and kitchen accessories. Plenty of comfortable seating. Loved hearing the spring flow into the river. It was a good base as we enjoyed sights around the area. Our guys enjoyed floating and fishing on the Blue River while the gals took in a winery tour. We hope to return.
A lovely little spot to getaway at. I don’t think there’s anything spectacular about the cabin, but it’s cute and cozy. The location is great. The yard space is really nice, but was a little surprised there’s no driveway or specific parking area. My son and I enjoyed our stay :)
Inaccurate Photos and Description
We called VRBO the morning after our arrival to inform of inaccuracies on this listing. To summarize...
The photo showing the second bedroom, is not the second bedroom. That photo is actually another angle of the first bedroom. The second bedroom is very small, about 7x8. There is no headboard, no dresser, no closet. Just a double bed that gets hit by the door when it is opened.
There is no futon on the "screened in" porch as advertised. Instead, there was a small, old moldy wicker couch with an old moldy cushion. We never sat there. The "screened in" porch had a deck floor with large gaps between slats and poorly sealed screen edges, so bugs just come right in.
The front door was incredibly hard to secure. Only my husband could pull it up on the frame and pull it tight to lock it. I could not.
There is an older laminated sign on the fridge to not drink the water. This is important information when deciding to rent. Also, we had to immediately go back out and buy water.
There was no curtain on the French doors to the patio in the main bedroom. This can be seen in the photo, so I should have known going into it. We had to hang a blanket up to not be seen from the road.
The air conditioner is a wall-unit in the living room area. We had to sleep with bedroom doors open & it was still warmer than we wanted.
The shower is minuscule. It was hard for my husband (6" 2') to lift his feet up to wash them without banging the walls. There were no spare supplies, e.g. only the one garbage bag in the can, 1 roll of toilet paper.
Dishes were also minimal. Only one wine glass. No dishes with lids; we had to cover with Walmart bags. There were only 2 bowls. When we sat down our first night to have ice cream and had to eat in shifts I about lost it.
The lamps in had so many cob webs it looked like the Haunted Mansion.
There were many other small things, such as no remote for the TV. Missing light bulbs in the bathroom. Only 4 bathroom washcloths for 3 people for a 4-night stay. No extra sheets or cleaning supplies of any kind. Nails sticking out of the floor in the hallway to flay your toes open. A smell of something bad behind the refrigerator.
There were a few nice things. The location was good. The beds were comfortable. The the collection of very old VHS tapes was interesting. However, I have regret and know I could have done much better.
This was our second experience at the Harrison Springs cabin. My mom had rented the cabin for several weeks last year and we visited her there while in Corydon. We all liked it so much that we decided to rent it for a week this year. Missy and Nancy are super helpful and excellent hosts. The cabin was cozy and comfortable as ever. It is quiet and feels very private. The river right below the deck is great and my husband fished nearly every morning and afternoon, while I enjoyed yoga under the trees each morning.
Other reviewers have noted how well-stocked the cabin is with fresh linens and other necessities, and we thought the same. It is also perfectly situated in terms of access to downtown Corydon, O'Bannon State park and all of the caverns. We would definitely rent this cabin again. Thanks for a great week!
The moment we stepped in the little cabin we felt like we were right at home. There were three of us (women) who immediately said that we could see ourselves living here. I must admit that one of the bedrooms and the shower were a little small. But being challenged is 1/2 the fun! There were plenty of pans, dishes, and bath towel's. Also, there were plenty of DVD's and lots of great roads to walk. We would definitely go back! Thanks to our hosts for the great cabin on the river.
