Great week!
The pictures were on point and the stand along ice machine was good since we all carried water bottles everyday. Being able to enjoy the sound of the wave every morning on the porch was great. The short walk to the beach with the supplied cart and chairs was a plus. Everyone enjoyed their stay.
You’d think that it would feel crowded on a holiday weekend - but the Rustic Retreat delivered quiet relaxation! We especially loved the awesome bed swing on the lower porch.
We absolutely love the place. Love the rustic atmosphere. Very short walk to the beach. Not many people on the beach so a lot of privacy. The place is very equipped to stay here for a week. We definitely will be back our new home at the beach!
The house offers an ideal setup for children and grandchildren, featuring bedrooms with bunk beds and queen size beds, while the grandparents can enjoy a spacious king size bedroom. The family room and dining area are designed to comfortably accommodate the entire family. Additionally, the house is fully equipped with a well-stocked kitchen for cooking and includes various beach accessories..
Location was ideal for us - away from the crowds but plenty of nearby activities. Short walk to the beach. Peaceful. Loved the porch to relax with a cup of coffee have or a glass of wine. Fully stocked with everything we needed. Comfy beds. Communication with hosts was easy with quick responses.

Property is nice and clean, didnt love the location, rude neighbors .
This was a wonderful home with great amenities. The extra ice maker really came in handy. We truly enjoyed the screened in porch for evening relaxing. The beds were comfortable and everything just as described. My family of 6 was very comfortable in this home.
This property was great! The home is comfortable, roomy and well-equipped with anything and everything we needed. The kitchen had plenty of pots, pans, utensils, dishware, silverware and just about anything else we needed to cook. The laundry room was so nice to have and the master bedroom comfy and roomy.
Access to the beach was just a short walk--and the enclosed screen porch, with its south and west views, gave us a panoramic view of the water and the gulf.
It was a great stay!

From the time we reserved the property to the time we checked out, the owners were in communication with us to make sure we had a great stay! Very much appreciated!! Very comfortable beach house with amazing views! The kitchen included everything we needed to prepare meals . We really enjoyed the screened in porch in the evenings. Walk to the beach was short and easy! We did not want to leave .

Perfect get away!
The house was great! We enjoyed our quiet time next to the beach. The neighborhood was friendly, quiet and relaxed. We enjoyed our time in town, but most of all we enjoyed the house. Board games, books, tv time, screened in porch. It was the perfect family time for our family. My husband, myself, 16 year old son and 17 year old daughter.
Thank you Mike and Linda! The kids have already said this house should be our new family tradition.
This was a very nice property with a beautiful view! We loved the screened porch. The furniture was all comfortable and clean in the living area and on the porch. The bed in the main bedroom was also very comfortable. The kitchen was large and stocked well with an added bonus of a stand alone ice maker. There is a great swing under the house to enjoy the cool breeze. A very nice uncrowded beach is just a walk down the road and over a sand dune. It was nice to go down to the beach early in the morning and then again late evening. Guests have access to beach items stored at the property. The wagon to haul your stuff down to the beach was another added bonus. Good communication with the owners. All questions were answered promptly. Don't hesitate to book this property.

Best vacation!!! Clean house with lots of space and fully equipped kitchen- even has a Crock-Pot!
This house is in a great location if you crave some alone time with your family... We have 8 kids ages 2-17, and they all loved it here! We had our own space at the beach, and it was so nice to enjoy the covered porch throughout the day and listen to the waves and the birds.
The house is beautiful, and the beds are extremely comfortable... I have a disc issue in my back, and this was the best night sleep I've had in a long time! My husband went fishing a lot, and had a great time almost catching a shark!
They have board games and puzzles available, as well as basic spices, and there is a Walmart about 20 minutes away if you need to get anything that you forgot, as well as a few local stores that have some things. It was a short drive to get to hiking trails, the Alabama Coastal birding watch areas, and places to eat out. We hope to come back again next year!!!
The house wasn’t perfectly clean when we got there- a spill on the counter, fingerprints on the glass tables, and sand on the bunk beds and kitchen table. The house is older, so it isn’t as new as the pictures would lead you to think, but it is nicely decorated. We could tell the owners of the property don’t stay there, due to simple inconveniences that should be addressed. The TV was very finicky and it took us 30 minutes just to get it on. Apparently the last renters had unplugged some things, probably trying to get it to work. There was only one dish towel and one dish rag in the whole kitchen. The hose on the porch, for rinsing sand, was busted. Some kitchen cooking items were dirty, the dishwasher smelled awful (we handwashed all items), and we also had some ants. Some pros were the screened in porch, a Keurig that wasn’t listed in the description, a variety of beach items to use, and clean bathrooms.

2 Family Vacation
This was our 6th year vacationing at Fort Morgan, first time at Rustic Retreat. The name is perfect for this home. The exterior is rustic looking yet not lacking in the amenities such as outdoor shower to rinse off sand, clean concrete area on ground level with picnic bench to grill and of course the screened in porch on the upper level. The street is very quiet. There is one other house behind Rustic Retreat that is in close proximity, otherwise it is surrounded by empty lots which has the desired beachy look. You can see the Gulf from inside the home. The inside is a very open concept that appears to have been updated recently and decorated in a modern beachy theme throughout. The dining table was our favorite place to gather. It is a large beautiful table with plenty of seating due to having 2 large bench seats on either side of the table. We were pleasantly surprised that the beds were SO comfortable. The owners of this home invested in great mattresses. All the bedding is updated and in great condition. When the kids went to bed, the parents sat out on the screened in porch with the provided heater. There is ample seating in the screened in porch. There are windows from the family room looking out onto the front porch towards the Gulf. We loved to sit out on the porch because we could talk without whispering after kids went to bed and we could see inside to make sure the kids were fine. In the past, when renting vacation homes, we found that the homes that stated they do not offer condiments/spices/oils had some commonly used condiments/spices/oils that previous vacationers left. Be aware, at Rustic Retreat, you will need to bring ALL of your own condiments/spices/oils. There is a short walk to the beach. The walk is on a hard surface, easy to pull the wagon with beach items. Once you hit the sand, there is a 10-15 yard sand path to the beach. Very short walk. On a side note, the owner was always very quick to respond through email. On our way to the home, we emailed her a question. She responded very quickly. Plus prior to our vacation, she answered emails within minutes/hours. I was very impressed with her response time.

president's weekend get-away
There are not enough word allowed here for me to adequately describe what a wonderful place this is. I thought I would like it but it far superceded my expectations. My husband, two kids, and I went down for a few days on their school break. I have been to the beach many times but I had never been to Fort Morgan so wasn't sure how I would like the desolate tranquility of this place........but I loved it. The house was beautiful and clean and there wasn't a thing that I needed that they didn't have (even though I filled up my SUV with stuff). They had everything you could possibly think of to use for the beach. It was a 2 minute walk to the beach (285 steps is what we counted) and a straight shot down the gravel driveway. The beach was beautiful and everyone there was very friendly and stopped to talk to us. The house itself was beautifully decorated and the beds were comfortable. All of the bedrooms were large with a lot of sleeping space. There was also a lot of eating spaces (barstools/ big dining room table/ plus an outdoor pub style table on the porch) The wifi worked great which was important for us b/c my kids had some school work to do. There was an ice machine, large refrigerator, and an extra dorm fridge for beer/ sodas etc. The kitchen had everything you would have at your own house. We went bike riding to the fort which was very peaceful, went fishing off the pier by Tacky Jacks-which is less than a block away, and did an amazing hike an the Bon Secour Wildlife refuge (highly recommend this if you like to hike). We spent a lot of time on the screened in porch which had a nice fan and a constant cool breeze. I was worried about not having a clear open view of the ocean, but you can see it easily from the porch and you definitely can hear the waves crashing so this was a non-issue. I actually liked the privacy of this place since it wasn't directly on the frontline of the beach. You are remote and not close to any grocery stores/ stores/ gas stations so bring what you need, but I really enjoyed the isolation and peacefulness of the area. The owners were very responsive and very easy to work with. Overall, I could not come up with a negative thing to say about my whole experience (except I did not care for the food at tacky jacks but I'm Cajun so my standard are probably high for seafood dishes) which is really irrelevant to this review. I never like to go to the same place twice but this may have to be an exception;I liked it that much!
Beautiful home in a great location. We appreciated all of the beach gear (they have everything). We spent a lot of time relaxing in the screened in patio listening to the sounds of the ocean.
The home is perfectly placed, just a short way to the beach. The home is adorable & comfortable. The ice machine was a lifesaver.
The only issue we encountered was certain areas needed cleaning before they could be used. This is more likely the cleaning company used by the owner & not the owner themselves. We also experienced bugs in the kitchen that we had to get spray for.
Overall our stay was nice and we would consider staying here again.
We really enjoyed the front porch here in the mornings. We loved the open concept. Having an ice machine was awesome. Plus, it was a short walk to the beach. We used the outdoor shower as well- would love to see that closed in the next time we come! We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Linda McCrary
We purchased this home spring of 2016. We have loved traveling to this area for approximately 17 years. We love the uncrowded beach setting as well as watching sunsets and love watching stars at night just as they come out. We enjoy the great food, playing tennis on some great clay courts. We have spent vacations with our children and grandchildren at Ft. Morgan the last four summers . We all love watching the dolphins from the beach, fishing from both the beach and boat. It's just a great area for family vacationing. Kids loved the beach, collecting shells, sightseeing and shopping. We all love the great seafood.
Why they chose this property
We like the fact that the beach in this area is more secluded, and not wall to wall people like so many areas. It is a great place for families
What makes this property unique
This is an older home with large rooms. It has a very open feel. So many of the houses that are available to rent have very small rooms and no storage. There is a closet in each bedroom, plenty of seating and a nice screened in porch where you can sit at night and listen to the waves. If you like, we've furnished an air bed to sleep on the screened porch. We have a griddle, crock pots and there is an electric patio heater if you come in the cooler months.
