About this property

Grey Heron - Pet friendly; Waterfront home w/ Boat dock!

Majestic views await you from every room at Grey Heron, a charming raised contemporary located on North Main Street. Enjoy the unparalleled island sunsets from the private dock, spacious screened in porch and dining area, or with it's floor to ceiling windows and numerous cozy seating areas - from anywhere else in the home! Vintage artwork from local artist Hall Lott, known for his cover artwork for the Chincoteague Island Easter & Decoy Festival and Pony Swim posters, adorn the walls at every turn. Plush, cozy furniture in the living area as well as a round-about room featuring stunning 180-degree views of Chincoteague Bay and salt marsh give you plenty of space to enjoy company comfortably. A fully equipped kitchen (range, dishwasher, refrigerator) to prepare meals for family and friends, which is connected to the great room featuring a beautiful working fireplace and natural wooden floors. Grey Heron features 3 bedrooms, each boasting their own private balcony. On the upper level (accessible by the spiral staircase in the great room) you'll find the master bedroom - with the largest balcony, overlooking the sweeping vista of the bay and marsh. A comfortable king sized bed and television, as well as a full bath. The floor to ceiling bay window delivers plenty of natural island sunshine into the bedroom. Downstairs you will find the other two bedrooms - both with queen sized beds, a small balcony, and a cozy sitting area with view of the bay and marsh. Bring your bushel basket and crab right off the dock, then enjoy the bounty of the Chincoteague Bay from the screened-in porch. Bring your kayaks as well and launch them right from the private launch found off the bulkhead on the property. An outdoor shower to hose off after a sandy day at the beach. Plenty of space outside to enjoy family activities, and pet-friendly so bring your furry friends - they love basking in the sun on the dock as much as people do!

Not the best experience...
The house is really shabby, which you can't tell from the pictures. My family didn't even want to go in when we arrived. During our stay, some contractors came to stain the decks (which we were sitting on at the time). I asked the property management if these men were supposed to be there while we were occupying the house. They responded that it was the property owners' scheduling error and for the inconvenience, they wanted to offer us a credit for one night stay (at a future date). We thought that was a little insulting considering the experience made our stay very uncomfortable and awkward. And, no, we aren't taking the offer. We will stay somewhere nicer next time. The property was nice. We enjoyed the waterfront and beautiful view. And the private dock was amazing. But the house itself was uncomfortable and in bad shape. Also, if you book this property, make sure you check your invoices. The property management charged me several hundred dollars more than what I agreed to pay on vrbo. I contacted vrbo to get information as to why that had happened and they said there must have been an error, I should only have to pay what was agreed upon when booking the reservation online (which makes sense). I contacted the property manager about the discrepancy and they said they don't normally adjust their prices based on vrbo listings but they would do it for me once as a courtesy. WHAT?! We had a contract. You can't just raise the price after the agreement. It was strange.

Well worn but comfortable
The house is a bit rough around the edges, but comfortable. The upstairs bedroom is glorious. One of the bedrooms is facing the bay and is very pleasant. The other faces the road and gets full sun. It was over 85 in this room in November! Several broken appliances but plenty of utensils. Great place to have a relaxing stay.

August 2022 Stay
We loved the house layout and the dock was great for fishing. Very easy location for getting around the island. It would be great to have some additional seating in the living room to accommodate a few more people. Look forward to seeing the upgrades for next year!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Where do I begin? The Grey Heron is the place to be! Beautiful views of the bay from every window. Amazing sunsets!! Spending time on the pier/dock is my favorite - feeling the breeze from the bay. Can't wait for 2023!!

Nice and quiet with a great dock.
Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: After years of neglect, the property finally got some repairs and upgrades. It is still rough around the edges and not worth the drastic $800 increase in weekly rent over the past two years. The property management promises “free early check-in” on the listing but with the check-in information states, “We cannot allow early access, even for grocery drop off, whiny kids & pets, etc.” Dishonest and passive-aggressive customer service is what they actually offer, apparently.
