About this property

Rustic Vermont Barn Home Near Jay Peak w/Pizza Oven

Come experience a charming and relaxing home with a distinct Vermont flavor.

For your safety and convenience, we are offering self-check instructions to make you more comfortable upon check in.

Just minutes away from Jay Peak and right on Main Street in Montgomery Center, this home is a short walking distance from a supermarket, restaurants, Trout River, and local bars. The Barn is cozy enough to help you unwind and relax after enjoying all of your favorite Vermont outdoors activities--hitting the slopes, hiking, fishing, etc.

The home has been lovingly renovated and updated while preserving and emphasizing its old Barn charm. Come and relax while you admire the work of a master carpenter throughout the whole house, from its handmade winding staircase to the wooden homemade cover plates.

The kitchen is fully stocked with nice assortment of pots and pans as well as plates, glasses, and silverware. There is also plenty of counter space if you feel like cooking. If you are not serious about cooking a meal, there are a number of options just a few steps away at The Inn (right across the street) or at Bernie's just down the street. You may, if you prefer, drive to The Belfry just up the mountain. Either way, we will leave some bottled water in the fridge to help you get settled. For your convenience, the kitchen is equipped with a DW, LP oven, electric cook top, and a microwave. There is a spice rack, a professional coffee grinder if you prefer to bring your favorite flavor of coffee beans, and a coffee maker. There is a Hearthstone Pizza Oven and large stainless grill outside.

The main home has 3 bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The Master has two Queen size beds and is separate from the other bedrooms for some privacy. The next bedroom has a Queen and a Twin. The third bedroom has a Queen bed and a Day bed. There is a cot and a sofa bed for additional guests in the main Barn. There is also an additional bonus space available with additional beds for a small fee.

We welcome your small to medium sized nonaggressive dogs. Please verify breed with us before booking. For the comfort of all guests, we prefer them to be of the hypo-allergenic dog breed type. There is an additional $100 pet fee for first and $25 for each additional.

The home has a Rinnai heater and three additional propane fireplaces--two of them being Vermont Hearthstone Gas fireplaces. These last two are handmade right here in Vermont and are beautifully crafted with a marble surrounding.

The larger living area upstairs includes a Smart TV, basic cable/Wi-Fi, and a Xbox One gaming system. There is also a ping pong table, foosball table, and an exercise machine available for your use.

There is a dining room and also a formal dining room for your convenience and comfort. The formal dining room boasts a 12-foot-high stained-glass window sure to impress your guests.

The two full bathrooms are located one on each floor. There is a third bathroom available with the bonus area. There is a laundry room on the main floor as well.

We know you are coming to enjoy the town, but we also know you come to ski/snow board. For that purpose, we provide you with a large, heated mud room for all your gear with plenty of space to hang your coats and secure your equipment away from the street.

There is a binder in the kitchen area with local information for your convenience as well as general house information and rules. We are only 10 miles away so feel free to contact us if anything comes up. We encourage you to please help us maintain the place well-kept for the comfort and convenience of all guests. Please be advised that the home is surrounded by family homes. Quiet time of 10 pm until 6 am is strictly enforced as per town regulations. Please be respectful of local residents. A Nest doorbell is installed to help monitor plowing and parking. Please put any ski equipment in the mudroom.

Lovely Stay
We love this place. We’ve stayed twice and will be back. It’s clean, warm (in the winter) and quite charming. The host is welcoming and informative. The ping pong table was a hit with the kids

Perfect for our two-family get away
What a lovely home-perfect for our two-family get away to witness the eclipse! We have already made our next reservation! The hostess was super attentive. There were so many treasures to enjoy throughout the home! Ping pong was played for multiple hours. The pizza oven was so fun, produced super tasty pizzas, and quick!! The tub in the bonus space provided pampering during the day and additional private sleeping at night. Plenty of cozy spots were appreciated for reading, conversing and naps. We even completed one of the puzzles just before midnight the night before we left (delighted to find that not a piece was missing). We had such a wonderful time! We highly recommend this home!

Stayed for 1 month - March 2024
We stayed for a full month & loved our stay. We were greeted with a basket of food/snacks and each room had towels and soaps laid out. 'Ye Old Barn, while having some quirks, served us very well for our stay. It was rustic and endearing. The kitchen is a great space, fully functional and fully stocked with cooking gear. There is a great spot to bring in your ski gear and store to warm up for the next day. Saw some snow shoes and sleds (which we didn't use). We used the laundry a lot and appreciated the supplied detergent, laundry basket, etc. Beds were comfortable. There are plenty of sheets, blankets and pillows. Plenty of hot water (just don't do laundry at same time). Couches were also comfy, plenty of spaces to sit. Easy walk to Sylvester's or 'the Shoe' and about 12 minutes up to Jay Peak. Internet and wireless worked flawlessly allowing me to work remotely including teleconferencing. Piano is in tune if you are a player. We even used the pizza oven outside which was a lot of fun. Quirks I mentioned... Learning the light switches, using spiral stairs, small shower upstairs and 2nd shower downstairs, no queen bed had access on both sides and access to the annex from the kitchen/downstairs is a bit of a hike with the stairs. It is a converted barn and we expected this type of thing, none of them a big deal at all. Jill, our host, was super responsive and easy to communicate with and very willing to accommodate (even bought us some new non-stick frying pans).

Wonderful Place & Wonderful Host
Our recent stay was the best vacation experience both families have experienced in years. We have stayed in many different rental homes while skiing in Vermont/NH/Maine. Nothing will compare to the warm, welcoming and special feeling as guests we received from Jill & Rafael. The Barn is amazing, the space is perfect for two families and the character of the home makes you feel like you are enchanted. Jill and Rafael provided a wonderful welcoming and made you feel at home throughout the entire trip. Communication was excellent and helpful. The location is perfect for Jay Peak or visiting the Montgomery area which is also a hidden gem of a ski town! The weather was not in our favor to ski one day however that didn't matter. Kids played, adults read, and there was even some background piano tunes going while relaxing in the warmth of fireplaces. Jill & Rafael thank you so much for sharing your home & kindness with our families. We cannot wait till next year! Cheers, Shawn

About the host

We are are not your typical VT couple. Jill grew up right here in Montgomery and Rafa in El Salvador. We met at BYU and after graduating, we have lived in many places from California to Puerto Rico but we have now settled down and will stay in our beautiful VT.
We are both very active with coaching sports, school, and the community--mainly Scouting. We both love and cherish our elderly parents and are very involved in our kids upbringing.

Why they chose this property

We bought this home because of its uniqueness. We fell in love with the wood work that the previous owner put into the place. We love Montgomery Center and skiing Jay Peak with friends and family.

What makes this property unique

One word...space. The rustic, charming atmosphere is certain to provide a true Vermont experience. You will find a number of singular features and antique items throughout--such as the stained glass windows and variety of antiques
